Thread: Oppressor or Firespray

Interceptor, or TIE/IN.

Let's face it, when I'm just cruising Lok for quick kills and lotsa loot, I don't need an Opressor or a Firespray. Plus, I just love the maneuvering of the lighter ships. Finally, if I'm overt and get surprised and destroyed by another overt, I'm not out anything valuable.

It's all about you. Fly what you enjoy.

PvP I think Oppressor - 3 missile slots for those pesky awings, smaller target box, cheaper to replace. Though I have seen a few aces fly their Firesprays really well in pvp (Hi Ulrech!).

PvE I'd say either one works, Firespray got more mass, but is more expensive and the gun placement could need some time to get used to.

Me, I fly neither with my two toons. My PvP Imp Ace flies an Interceptor, my main character a Dunelizard, or a Krayt if she gets a gunner.

not realy, with only 2 guns, its useless. and the extra 70 mass, while lettign you use ordinance, is not enough to add really good components.

Ah both of ya are incorrect.

The longprobe doesnt have quite the same handling as an oppressor.

And other than manuveablity and hitbox, the only difference between the longprobe and the oppressor is 1 missle mount. And let me tell you, you can fit ALOT into a 170K mass chassis. 170K is plenty to add really good components.

In my oppressor i had

L8 Engine
L8 shield
L10 blaster
L8 blaster
three MK II image-rec missles
Mk II armor
L7 DC
L2 booster
L4 capacitor
chaff launcher.

Of course everythign there is RE'd and ultimatly, RE'ing is what its all about in ship building.

/agree completely. Oppressor and Y Wing LP are not the same handling at all.

And REing helps majorly with what you can do with a ship. My Oppressor is decked out quite nicely, and still has about 20k mass free (only have 1 missle launcher in atm, though, cause I rarely use them), but in it I have about the same as the above poster except 2 level8 reward guns (3800 max damage), level 6 armor, level 8 DI and level 6 capacitor. Of course, it helps that my alt is a shipwright, so getting the right parts is never an issue.

I've mastered 6 pilot professions between my 2 chars and have flown all the ships, and the Oppressor is my favorite, followed closely by the Krayt (even if it does look like a whale IMO ) and the X wing, which even with just 100k mass, can also be outfitted well.

I'm not saying the Spray isn't a good ship, because it is. Some people love it and fly it well. Its just not to my liking. So far all of my customers have been very happy with the sprays they've bought from me, and more power to them. The only way to really know which is better is to try it for yourself if possible. Everyone's style is different, so what someone else hates, you may like.

I'm a MSW on Intrepid, I've made FS, me and my partner had the highest stats on em on the server for our batch, regardless of that I stuck with my TIE Oppressor, one it's less expensive to replace and two it's faster that the FS is, it doesn't matter how fast an engine you put into a ship if it's ment to go slower, it will. I have 2 guns on my Opp and I can kill faster and more accurately in the Opp than I can in the FS. Granted the FS look cool and they are nice and powerful given the right parts, but if you end up draining off the HP of the chassis over time (which you will) then you're gonna be looking at a very expensive replacement. Go for the Opp unless you have an extra ship spot to mess with, then get an FS as a "look what I have" ship.

Can't comment on TIEs but the Firespray takes some getting usd to. After finely assembeling all the parts and having our SW make a batch I transfered all of my high end componants from my Krayt in to it. It proved to be a little slower than he Krayt and have half he firepower (two gun mounts as opposed to four (with gunner) on the Krayt). The main difference is the vertical gun configuration which mens you have to addust your aim somewhat to what you would be used to in the more common horizontal gun configuration found on most ships.

Overall the Firespray is a nice ship to have, but probebly for more people will a bit like a RIS Helmet. It looks cool but you have a better Compo one for when it matters.

I have now moved all high end RE parts back into my Krayt. I am still upgrading the KSE but it gets cast offs from the Krayt and YT-1300. Having said all that the Krayt does not quite feel 'Star Wars' to me, so I do like to take the KSE on loot runs just for that 'Now this is Star Wars' feel

This is just my personal opinion, but I've been totally gooving on the KSE. Like the poster said above, it has a very "Star Wars" feel to it. It is extremely difficult to fly, but I view that as a challenge and something to overcome. Each night I go out and run destroy duty, only been a few nights so far, but I've seen my accuracy go up quite a bit in just that time.

The one thing I seem to sense about the Firespray is that it really helps to use some of the basic run of the mill missles in standard combat with the idea basically being ... you only have two weapons. Make up for that by firing a couple of Mark IV Protons whenever you get the desire to do so. Adding in the occasional missle, I beleive, will make up for the lack of firepower when compared to the Krayt or other ships. (And I'm not talking expensive spacebomps or anything, just basic stuff)

How can ya not like a ship that has the muffler pulled!

I would say the Oppressor and really honest 100% can't vouch for a craft I've never personally put parts into and flown. I've been in Deep Space alot and I'd say a well stocked Oppressor in much better than a spray. For PVP that is.

I have never been up against a spray and lost ... awing yes krayt (2 on 1 vs. him and another awing ... yes ). I have taken out quite a few sprays and could only see this large bulky craft as gun platforms. I'm sure with a little tinkering here and there you could make a decent spray, but given a one on one battle (again pvp) I doubt the spray would come out again.

If you want to try and prove me wrong (and avenge the 4 reb sprays I've taken out in Deep Space in the last few days) come to Deep Space in your Spray...I'll be waiting .
