Thread: the myth of the one shot PvP...

If you play without the overloads you can actually shoot someone once and not get through both their armor and shields. Takes about 3-5 hits for a kill. Not that playing that way is advisable right now as you'll likely be blasted with little trouble.

What do you mean by that? i was in kessel last night, so i know its still there...do you mean the idea or implementation of kessel is poorly done? Honestly trying to understand what you mean.

When Jump to Lightspeed was first released, Kessel was a mandatory PvP zone. But since the Ace missions took place in Kessel, people who had no interest in PvP cried bloody murder and Kessel became PvP optional.

Griefers sat at the hyperspace points and destroyed ships on loading. They also took pleasure in destroying anyone doing the Corvette missions. It was this behavior that caused the devs to change Kessel. Those who did not want to PvP had to PvP in order to gain master. Since that is 90% of the playing population, they changed Kessel.

Sadly, the community warned the devs about this during Beta and they did not respond. "Master should not be dependent of PvP."

Well put. I went up in my oppressor last night, found an xwing, and we both went charging at each other. He went head on guns blazing I juked, rolled and slid around and threw my nose across his flight path and fired one snap shot, boom, it was over.

Don't care if he was a good pilot, or didn't have the right equipment, or didn't see me, or whatever. Wasn't fun for me, and he got frustrated and went back the ground game. I felt bad honestly because the whole thing seemed too fast.

I'd prefer to have an engagement like that last longer, even if it's only 3 seconds it should take more that one shot to end it for an xwing. I'm happy with 1 shot kills against an Awing cause those things are horrible to shoot at.

I bet you mount level 8 or 9 guns on your oppressor, it's not the game itself. it's that we all use the best weapons that we can get. And an oppressor can mount much better weapons AND still maneuver. It's not a matter of the game. It's a matter that players will always take the best equipment availble.

I'm not going to start pointing the finger at players because they take the best equipment possible. It's easy to see that if everyone just uses less powerful weapons there would be fewer one shots kills. But that means all the loot and parts I've worked so hard to get will sit and gather dust. Snowballs chance in hell of that.I'm not putting down my prized weapons, if they are so out of wack with the current system, the devs need to fix it.

I really wish they had a special Space event zone where someone like an Event controller could set variables for what is allowed in the zone. IE normal setup is everything is allowed. Event controller could setup zone one day so it only allows tie/in, tie interceptors and tie aggressors, Xwings, Awings, Ywings lvl 6 equip and below. With a zone like this it might actually be fun to pvp. Could also throw in a target for the bombers like a space station or something. Seeing how much potential this game it's infuriating how long it is taking to get any sort of content or features added.

I fight pvp with my KSE and Oppressor , the KSE is always fun battle 5 min tops, Oppressor hit or miss lasts about the same it depends on the pilot your fighting usually its a fun time to be had by all its intense and exhilerating and I always like to pry my hands from the joystick afterwards lol

The more thought I put into this, the more disgusting it gets. Any heavy master level ship with good maneuverability and throttle (which means Krayt and Firespray, and to a lesser extent the Oppresor) is NOT a one shot kill if you put the best shields and armor. You try shooting down one of these monsters in space PvP with a lighter ship like an A-wing (my PvP ship of choice). One gun versus a properly shielded and armored behemoth is a multi-shot affair.
The people who are mostly complaining are those that aren't TRYING. They are ignorant. And don't bother working on the space game. Either :
1. Unwilling to truly read real pilot advice (they come on here to whine, not listen after all)
or
2. through in game improvement ("This 'rolling to evade' you speak of isn't like the ground game at all! And reversed engineered parts take too long!")
Whoever mantras the "PvP too fast" or "PvP in space is one or two shots" needs to realize that it's not like that. It was like that early on mostly because there were no master shipwrights the first two weeks of the game who were able to create the great parts they can make now and the concept of reverse engineering was still being explored. The trick is to MANEUVER. People who are dying fast aren't really flying. If you fly at me in a straight line and I shoot you down, that's not space PvP, it's you flying into my blaster fire! If you make passes at me like an NPC ship, you gotta start watching how I fly rather than like a tier 5 oppressor.

There are only two things that come out of changing everything and making ships tougher:
1. People will be able to fly away, shield shunt and then survive the 5 second hyperspace stand still because they are scared of PvP and were just up there to grind faction.
2. PvP in space will drag on for infinite amounts of time depending on how stubborn the pilots are.
Enough of this "over-all" enjoyment of the game. Over all, people don't even log onto these forums. There is an amazing number of people flying in space for the pure enjoyment of not grinding, at least on my server. Where skill matters rather than spamming specials is not an issue, space is a beautiful escape. You don't need to go to a doctor and get buffs. You don't have to wait 15 minutes for your late guildmate or friend to get buffed. You just launch.
And if you launch, realize what you get into. LEARN. EXCEL. Or stay on the ground where you belong.

Well, I think I pretty much agree with you with one exception...and that is people who camp the load points. This just happened to me twice tonight in my krayt, which has RE'd shields of about 2600 front and back. True my engine's YPR is only in the 70s, but that didn't matter because I was killed about 8 seconds after I loaded the first time and about 2 seconds after I loaded the second time. I went back the second time to see if the person was really camping or had just happened to be there at the moment. I waited a couple minutes and went back and got killed even quicker...guess the first time they didn't have the load point down right.

And, I'm not exactly without piloting experience as far as computer games. I've played them all my life from the first Falcon to the present. I can't say I'm the best pilot in the world, but I've done enough to know I never had a chance. The sad thing is we can't expect people to act honorably, which prevents me from PvPing. I'd love to actually fight someone where I had even a slim chance of winning, but it's not good sport to camp the load point. I had the same experience when I ran my first Kessel run when it was PvP, which was why I was glad it went PvE.

Now, load camping aside, I think you're point is well-taken.

The point we load into should be protected by the ISD/space station. Unfortunately it's not. I'd like them to move that point close enough so that the station/ship would fire on anyone who was close enough to engage players loading in.
