Sorry, but, can I say master content here, if only!

And on the point of pre-nerf DIs, they are crap in DS! Why, the armour they have means they die first. When you have the supreme REed PvP ship you will understand what 1 weak amoured component means.

Notice the guys arguing the side of the prenerfs fail to mention the reward engines. lol. I got an above averageQID with 95.7 speed. What was the speed on the prenerf Haor Chall?

The argument that us old timers have the advantage with prenerf items is valid because old timers and noobs both have access to ROTW ships. I have the best of both worlds. My prenerf level 6 reward engine is in my JSF as that is the most ideal ship for it to be in. The noob pilot has access to the JSF, but not to the prenerf engine, unless he is a pretty rich noob.

The original post is dead on. We are hypocrites if we argue against ROTW ships while conveniently forgetting prenerf components.

Prenerfs aren't the end all be all. Neither are ROTW ships, but there impact is much greater then prenerfs. Just because you don't have pre-nerfs doesn't mean you HAVE to fly a Rotw ship. I know lots of ppl who don't have any prenerfs and fly just fine with out them in non-rotw ships. What does that say?

Pre-nerfs are nothing but a luxury item. I could do the same kind of flying with out my prenerf DI. Only thing it helps me with is to get into the fight faster. CtSS? Big deal...my ship usually dies in one shot anyway. And CtSS isn't supposed to be a command that lets you stay alive indefinately. It's just something to help you survive long enough to vape or escape. My pre-nerf lvl 6 engine allows me to go faster. That is all. I have other lvl 6's that I RE'd with out a reward engine that aren't as fast, but do the EXACT same thing as the prenerf.

So no. People comparing pre-nerfs to the use of ROTW ships are comparing apples to oranges. I could make a JSF just as deadly with todays lvl 6 reward as I could with my prenerf lvl 6. The problem is the Ship, not the engine. Just because you don't have a pre-nerf doesn't mean you should cry/whine about it. Like I said, they are nothing more then a luxury item now. Nothing more.

It doesn't say anything. Common sense says that if they fly well with good components, they would be that much better with great components.

It's pretty easy to say that prenerf items aren't a big deal. If that is true, put your money where your mouth is and give your prenerfs to a noob.

I don't need to.. I only have 2 ships set up with pre-nerf equipment. And the ships Ihave on Starsider don't have any pre-nerfs on it. I know what its like to fly with no prenerfs since i've been doing it. And it isn't bad. The only thing the prenerfs do is give you more speed on your engine (speed isn't everything), or faster time on your DI. And your DI only allows you to do your programs faster. It does not help your flying directly.

And what happens if we all suddenly say the RoTW ships are "ok to use"

You will see all those prenerfs youre talking about strapped into JSFs, Bel22s etcetera

Ive said this before and Ill say it again... If you feel you need the advantage that the "new" chassis gives you in order to stay competitive, by all means do it... It wont make you a better pilot, quite the contrary Id believe

To really improve in this game you need to fight with the odds against you, not stacked on your side.

Ofcourse this is all a matter of point of view... This is just mine

I don't have any pre-nerf equipment of any kind on my A-wing. I bet I'm better than 50/50 against JSF pilots. It would be foolish to put a pre-nerf level 6 engine on an A-wing because it just doesn't have the PYR to hope to fight a well equiped JSF. I have a QID in mine which you can get too. I don't even have a pre-nerf DI. Mine is crafted because really getting my programs loaded quickly isn't something that concerns me in the middle of combat most of the time. CtSS will only save you a few times anyway and I've never had problem getting it when I need it even with a 21 speed DI. Even a poorly equiped JSF in the hands of a good pilot can be a problem. I've had far more problems with TIE advanced pilots because those guys really know what their doing. Over half the JSF and B-22 pilots I have faced have been really bad pilots who I would have killed in just about any ship. There are some who know what their doing and I'm sure that number is only going to grow. It's still a novice ship though. It always will be. It just has too much going for it to be respectable.

Well today, I took up my alts Vaksai. Lvl 10 engine, lvl 10 weapon, lvl 8 shield and I find myself wondering why Freelancers complain about not having a decent ship to fly in pvp. I tell you, that ship is -fantastic- regardless of its size. I still much prefer my A-wing, but I fought a variety of players today with the Vaksai and noone killed it. With 150k mass and one weapon slot too you really don't have to sacrifice anything. What with the chassis handling mods on top of that, the fact that it is the size of a small Ukranian Hamlet doesn't matter an iota.

Still...A-wings are sexier.

I would love to be able to squeeze a lvl 10 engine in the A-wing, but if I were to delve into the realms of fantasy and have one aspect of the A-wing improved, I'd ask not for more mass, but for just a little bit more responciveness to the chassis, say like that of a TIE Interceptor. If not that, 10k extra mass. /shrug. In dreamland there, but in reality I'm doing just spanktacular with the setup I have.

A-wing. (repeated for the joy of uttering it)

I jus' got a Vaskai on my alt, and dayum... just didn't realize how much mass they had. lol. I jus' threw it together to go try it.. but with a lvl 10 engine and a beam rail.. (I love the sound of that gun) It hauls.

As for your A-wing comments I agree completely. And I offer another 'dreamland' wish... a varient on the chassis to allow for a gun swivel, such as described in the X-wing series books. (Maybe the B-wing varient too? 'course they've GOT to balance pass it's handling... grrrr)

/shrug.

As I say and prove time and time again, I'll happily fight and killmost IGI or JSF with uber equipment even if they use pre-nerf gear with my A-wing. From my own personal point of view, any arguement about anything balance wise doesn't add up. People need to try harder and think more outside the box in a fight. Equipment only gets you so far. Your own mind and how sharp it is in a situation in hand with situational awareness are your greatest weapons past once you get to a certain level..and that level of equipment doesn't even have to be the gme's greatest.

The RGI is hard to hit... but handles like crap and only has one gun (80k mass).

The JSF is harder to hit, not because of a small hitbox. It handles like a dream and has two guns (90k mass)!

The GSF is slightly easier to hit than either the RGI or the JSF... but handles like a dream and has two guns (90k mass)!

Frankly... I wouldnt fly the RGI in PVP... Even with a good engine, it would be a pain in the (insert funny word) to win in a turning fight (I hate those things... Hi, my YPR is > Yours.. You l0s3 n00b3r).

Oh oh - unpopular side thought coming on - stand by for transmission...

You know... peeps talk about "Adjusting to tactics... etc" right? Well - when someone complains about turning fights, you get the "get a new engine" tactic... Umkay.

When peeps talk about speed... "get a new booster/engine" ...

You see where I am going with this? When peeps complain about RGI being hard to hit...

A. Get better w/ your blasters (ugh - you mean I have to have skill?).

B. Get some missiles (imo this is just like the get a new engine tactic).

C. Disengage and try again, with a better approach. The RGI is incredibly easy to hit in a head on/tail on shot.

Now - none of us can say we dont get components for the sake of making fights easier... So dont waste the effort typing it out.

I still wont fly the RGI in pvp... but I wont think less of anyone who does. Enjoy your krayt handling one gun interceptor.

The RGI handles anything but craply mate. It has better handling mods than an A-wing and I think the A-wing has superb handling, but thats just me.

Of the ROTW ships then =P

I personally hate the way the RGI handles, but that is me and maybe I am too hard on the chassis
