Right and how long, honestly, does it take you fill up a cargo hold with 35k of ore. You will never convince me that the Y-8 as it is now is just as efficient as mining with a fighter. It's a broken design and until it's redeigned it's not a viable option for mining.
1. Put mining lasers in top and bottom turrets.
2. break off chunk and watch where it flies
3. position your Y-8 so that the path the chunk takes flies above the sip while the lower turret is pointed at the asteroid.
4. buddy in lower turret beaks off/up a chunk and grbs what he can as the small chunks fly by.
5. buddy in top turret grabs the chunks tht fly by.
the downside to this is that as the pilot all you can do is sit there. Once my friends got the hang of it we started pulling in fairly quickly. I think we grabbed 5k in about 25 mins. Slow compared to a fighter, but no shuttling back and forth to the space station for unload.

How to equip and use a Y-8 space mineing ship quickly and efficently.
Pre requisits:
- 2 accounts 2 computers (someone has to be in the top turret at all times, I can't imagine an actual player wanting to do this)
Equip your Y-8 like this:
- Top turret is the tractor beem
- fixed forward gun is your Y-8 elite mineing laser
- rear mounted wapon you can do with as you please, its mostly useless
- droid progrms: Reactor OL4, Cap OL4, Engine OL 3, Weapon OL 3, Shield shunt 4
- Cargo hold, bigger is better
When you launch:
- 2nd account get in 1 of the 2 opperations chair and run the 4 overloads.
- after over loads are complete move the 2nd account to the upper turret
- Toggle the Tractor beem on with the 2nd account (doing it from the pilot seat will only turn on an imaginary tractor beem that does nothing)
- While looking in first person view pilots chair adjust the tractor beem so that half of the beem runs down the middle-left strutt in the forward window. This approxamatly intersects your reticle's cross hair at 50m-150m from target rock.
- Once the beem is aimed the pilot needs to zoom out to external view. You cant see jack from the interior view.
- use the laser on the big rock to break of a chunk
- Target the chunk and match its speed.
- Optimal distance to target is 50m-150m. if it's farther than 180m, just turn around and break off another chunk. dont bother chaceing anything.
- Aim the beem at the center of rotation, Put the white flashlight on the green lead indicator.
- Tap the chunk with the laser and SLURP 90-100% of the chunk instanly pops in your hold. Most of the time I do not bother picking up the small potatos the splatter around. but if you must you will be at the same speed as the little rocks for EZ pickup with the beem.
If I were to do this in a fighter, I would use auto follow instead of matching target speed. A fighter is better able to adjust speed than the Y-8 and autofollow puts you in the most optomal distance and aimed at the center of rotation.
I have used a very similar setup (with 2 accts), elite laser in weapon 2, elite tractor beam in weapon 0, and raked in 20k of space resources in a few hours time, tell me it's not efficient. Can even solo against the tier 4s, np, had an issue with the tier 5s when a stray shot hit a 'vette I did't realize was there, needless to say, I only lasted a few more seconds before all fighters and boats had me going nova.

I am still waiting to hear back from Tomo on this, coming close to waiting 2 weeks.
Waiting to hear back from Tomo on this for what reason?
The developers KNOW the mission for the Y-8 is broken. The have also stated that they are redesigning the ship to add 2 more turrets, and have no ETA. They have also stated that they would like to "increase the Y-8's usefullness".. and have no ETA for that either.
Oh.. and no ETA on getting the mission fixed.
Trust me, it's frustrating as hell because I want a Y-8 REAL bad, I just love the idea of that ship. I can't GET one, however.
I would like his opinion on the article and any future information on the progress of the Y-8, and I would like to hear it from him. And yes, I am fully aware that he is moving at the moment and will not be back for some time.

The use of two accounts even if it is an AFK friend is in no way more efficent.
Second I can gather 6-7.5k in one hour in my fighter. Why would I take another route if I need to use another account and I still can't match what I can do in my fighter?
Landing isn't a problem if you do what Red Dwarf Said. LAND AT KASH! Only 2k from the hyper point and it is not as laggy as some other places.
The way to fix this thing is to make the "pilot" weapon Tarcot ONLY and introduce an Elite Tractor Beam that will take the Big chunks. It would also help to move the top turret to the nose of the Y-8. No need for two operations chairs. and adjust the firing arc ont he rear turret to cover the entire area to teh rear. This would make the turrets similar to the guns on the other PoBs and it wouldn't out gun them.
The Y-8 is a mining vessel. It should not out gun a dedicated patrol vessel like teh Decimator. You can argue the Nove Courier and the YT-1300 are cargo ships, but the Decimator is a Patrol ship. It is ment for combat and some mining vessel should NEVER out gun it. It would be worthless to deply decimators if some mining ship unmodified outguns the decimator...
