Interesting topic. Here's my 2 cents.

Level 8's definately seem to be the way to go. I think that is because of the QID's that came out with RoTW. Someone mentioned the fact that the RoTW ships have more mass and therefor allowed people to go with a bigger engine. I can agree with that to. How many people actually ran level 8 engines before RoTW came out? I mananged to cram a level 10 engine in my xwing before the expansion came out. I thought I had a definate advantage in a straight turning fight. But now however it's just another Xwingwith a 10 (though it is a regular).

The other part of it is people think they HAVE to have an 8 or higher in there ship to compete. That isn't true. Nesanya has run a 6 in his interceptor since, well, forever. He's one of hte toughest pilots to take down to. I had an 8 in my alts interceptor but recently just switched it back to the 6 and I am still doing just as good in it. Plus I have some shields now However, I don't think you HAVE to have an 8 or higher. They help a lot though. I can't deny that. But on starsider currently, my best engine is a lvl 4. I don't have all the parts to RE my 6or 8 yet. So I have been pvp'ing with my 4 because that is what I have and I have been doing surprisingly well with that little engine. I've taken out an awing 1v1 and scored some other kills with it. Now I do die with it, but overall i'd say that everytime I die I get atleast 1 kill.(Yes, i felt like bragging a little Though Leaph made my engine look like a level 1 prototype haha).

As for ship choice, it seems to me on Bloodfin that if you're a pilot who flies with some regularity and does pvp you sort of lay down the JSF/B22 for other ships. In our sunday night fights the regulars mostly show up in ships other then the JSF/B22. The people I see that fly the JSF with "regularity" are the ground pounders. I know last week we had some ground pounders show up to the fight but they were all in JSF's and Grevious ships. And talking with them they would never fly any other kind of ship. That says a lot about the mentality/perception they have when it comes to flying. On Starsider I have only run into 1 JSF pilot. So I can't really comment on them there yet.

As for weapons, that all seems to be a personal preference. I know that people who don't fly a lot it's easier for them to get crafted weapons then it is to spend the time and effort to get good looted weapons to RE. So it makes it faster for them to just pick up the crafted and go fly. I can't stand crafted weapons. I've tried them and after 20 minutes of using them I had to go rip them off. I would rather go with 6's or 8's.

My FOTM ship right now is a Z-95 with a level 10 RE engine, level 8 RE gun, and just barely enough shield to take a couple hits from tier 5 npcs. So I would pretty much die in one hit in PVP, but good luck hitting me.

My old PvP ship is an A-wing with a QID and level 8 reward gun in it. I have a crappy L6 shield in it, so it's a bit like my Z-95 in that regard.

My old prenerf L6 that was in my A-wing is now in my Actis, which is set up to go either PVP or PVE. So it's a jack of all trades, master of none. I figure the L6 engine is a good way to handicap that ship for PVP. I have 10k mass leftover in my Actis that I don't know what to do with.

My future ship projects include a Vaksai and a B-wing. Both of which will be getting level 10 engines. I just need alot more level 10 engines to do those two ships. I tried the L10 RE from my Z-95 in a Vaksai andgot hooked. So these two ships are going to be a pretty big project for me.

After flying a bit in L8 and L10 engines, I just can't bring myself to fly a crafted engine. I have a decent L9 crafted engine I use in the heavy X-wing, which is suppose to be a PVE ship for me, but I changed the setup for mining and am too lazy to switch back. The Actis is more fun for PVE anyway.

Yeh, when you told me you were pvp'ing with a lvl 4 engine I was like "This man...is mad." Cool that you've actually shot people down while using it though. Probably the bravest pvp setup idea I've seen along with Ducimus taking an unshielded Heavy TIE to Deepspace.

Well, in actualilty i don't have much of a choice. I'll pvp with what I have available to me. Just happens to be a lvl 4 engine. lol I'd try to pvp with the prototype engine if that's all I had to use.

But one day, hopefully soon, i'll have a 6 ready to go. Or an 8. But until then i'm having a blast using the 4. I know I have to fly perfect to succeed. And I love challenges like that. Say, you should try it to.. lol

For whatever reason they never stock decent RE'd engines on Starstrider. On Bloodfin you can always cruise over to a vendor and find a low end PvP-worthy engine, level 6 or 8. I'm going nuts trying to find decent parts on SS.

Probably because on Starsider, there is a lot of competition for parts so they all get snapped up real quick? Just a theory.

I have found that with most, even less than die hard pilots on SS, they are keeping them and saving for RE's. The rest are the other end of the spectrum, and sell to chassis dealers.

I rarely see anything worth keeping on the vendors, I did pick up a decent yaw on a cert 6 engine for 9k the other day though, so it does happen.

As for Selling RE 6's and 8's...never. I have a hard enough time keeping friends in decent engines, let alone sell them, and I really don't need the cred...so I hoard

Oh, and my current level 8...ony 82 speed, from quite a lot pre-ROTW, turns on a dime though thanks to high YPR and the speed being closer to the YPR. Booster gives me the added juice when I need it.

Well, I hear about plenty of freelancers flying the vak, but are there any pilots who dare fly the khiraxz in PvP?

Otherwise, if I ever complete an RE8 or 10 gun, I plan to use a comination of an RE gun and a mark 5 quickshot ion cannon. I bet that would be a fun combo on a Ywing longprobe. Any feedback on that combo?

Are there any other kinky combinations that people use on their ships as a secret weapon?

I figure the LP is better off making good use of the 2 missile slots it has. Those can REALLY spoil somebody's day...

I've noticed that most if not all of the smaller, turning fighters are using RE'd lvl 8 engines. The bigger bomber class ships use RE lvl 10's mostly. As for crafted engines, on Lowca, most of the Vaksai pilots I know use crafted engines. I fly a Vaksai and use a crafted engine myself. So for engines, its either RE 8, 10 or using a Mark V crafted engine. The mark V engines that are in use that I'm aware of are experimented for speed. Not too many pilots still use the JSF/B22 with much regularity since it is banned from our PVP events. As for blasters, I think most still use RE'd blasters. I think that is because of the mass on RE'd blasters. You can getmore punch for the mass using an RE'd blaster than you can with a crafted. RR is lower, but pilots adjustby becoming betterat aiming I think, using the engine to manuever for a better shot. Most pilots I know use at least some amount of armor. Whatever they can fit, but it is a consideration. Unless it is an event that specifically calls out for no missiles, most pilots I run into have CM's loaded. Not all carry a missile launcher, but that is more of a mass limitation. I'm sure they would have one if they could fit it on their ship.

Pre-ROTW my secret weapon used to be a Z95 with a pre-nerf L2 engine, and a L6 REd gun.... I miss that ship. I used to get /duel offers from bullies near the Space stations in their brand new Oppressors...

Also, since you can always trust me for an obscure point: Has anyone noticed many people using REd Gauss cannons in PvP? I installed one for the fact that its nearly invisible, and I've noticed that it does skew some pilot's reactions (looking for bolts to dodge)
