Well... As I stated in my post as well, I have only come up against 2 or 3 AW pilots that didnt die within 5-10 secs
I -have- flown against EO3 and EO4 AWs.... yes they are a tough bugger to hit, but it leaves you with so much more satisfaction when you finally get the shot in
I stand by my statement... Missiles is for the skillless... Any fool can get a lock and hit a button... People complain that duels last for 0.2 sec, and now people use missiles because they lack the skill to outfly a AWing
I am not directing this at you Ducimus, I know full well that I can have problems hitting those AWs flying 1300+ ... but hey, then they are better (or luckier) than me, and I die.. But using missiles its not really a fight based on skill, could just as well go back to ground dots for gaining an edge hehe.
Sorry, but this my opinion... Missiles in PvP is cheesy

Yeah well... luckily there aint many AW/TI pilots on Bloodfin that uses them... mostly those mass heavy ships
Id wish someone setup a war in DS with ...say 4-5 guilds or so.... imagine 30+ AWings, Advanceds and Interceptors zipping around DS killing eachother

You want that, head to Starsider, ( I may eventually but i havent given up on bria yet) they have 20 on 20 reguarlly over there i hear.
Just be warned, they've advanced a bit in group tactics. Hope you can learn to like IR missles because they use em over there ALOT.
From what a pilot i know who plays there (and on bria occasionly where i subsequenlty get schooled), every last rebel pilot carries them now. Conversly, T/O's i hear are specalized to smack down A wings with a 3 salvo IR launch.
So.. IR's.. get used to em.

Rebs used to be behind in the missile department, but judging from the number I've had shot at me lately, they've adapted. Still, they're pretty easily chaffed, and we have 3-4 engagements per battle, so you can run out of missiles in a hurry. I've dumped a full pack of Image-Recs on an A-Wing before without killing her.
I think missiles are somewhat cheesy, but I also find it kind of lame when a single A-Wing is dodging blaster fire from 5 TIEs for five minutes in a row, and the rare times you're able to land a hit, their shields are shunted back within 15 seconds. If your battles are extensive enough that you're out of missiles for the majority of the fighting and you have to think carefully about when and where to expend them, you'll find a pretty good balance between too much dependence on them and not using them at all.

What type of chaff? I was under the impression nothing less than a sensor decoy would work against IR's.

Normal chaff's been working well for me, though I know a lot of people are using sensor decoys since they only weigh another 1.2K or so. Chaff has a lot of strategy behind it too, as it turns out, because it seems like dumping 2-3 of it at once will assure you that no missile's going to hit you.. but if you do that, you're only good for 4-6 missiles before you're a sitting duck for the next one.
I tend to release more of it if I've already got shield damage, but just one if I'm flying unhurt. I can soak one missile with just some armor damage before they get through to my components. That's the downside of IRs, low damage and shield/armor effectiveness to match the low per-pack count.

Having seen Tomo's laser spray passingsafely aroundmy A girl... only to get a missile up the tailpipe from pretty much point blank range(Nice one btw. I got a single chaff off but it didn't do much), I have to say that Im-rec's certainly get the job done.
Also I didn't find it all that 'cheesy'. It felt exactly like what it was, getting shot down by superior maneuvering.

PvP / PvE
Oppressor - 3 Concussion III launchers (36 rockets total)
Firespray - 2 Spacebomb 2 launchers (8 rockets, 1 shot kill AWings or Vette Components)
Intercepter - 1 Concussion III launcher
Those are my normal load-outs. Sometimes if I'm thinking of going vette hunting I'll switch the Conc III's on the Oppressor for 3 SpaceBomb 1 launchers.
