Im going to agree, former SS Ace here, and if you want to know how to outfit a ship properly, master one of the Imperial squadrons. When I found out the Dunelizard had 85k mass and was available at tier 1, my first thought was "WOW, nice one", and my second was "what the hell am I going to fill it all with until tier 3?"

Mastering an Imperial squadron doesnt make you more "uber", but it gives you a much better understanding of the way that componants work, especially in regards to balancing Mass vs Stats, it helps you realise whats REALLY important, what can be compensated for with droid commands, and what can be left behing without much trouble.

Imperial ships are much lighter, have much less mass, and make much tighter rolls, yaws, and pitches. Engine speeds are not given much of a slowing mod when inserted (a 60speed engine is faster and slower in different chassis types). They also slide very little when do hard turns keeping them nice and tight.

Rebel ships are heavy, have alot of mass, and are slower on the rolls, yaws, and pitches. They also slide alot more when doing hard turns. Unfortunately that extra slide also allows them to make funky looping turns and in PvP they can almost fire at a 90+degree angle to the rear.

There are exceptions to this rule though. The TIE Bomber has alot of mass although its probably the worst ship in any inventory. Calling it a "flying brick" is being nice and generous. The TIE Oppressor has ALOT of mass for a TIE ship but suffers in the manueverability. It is also capabable of the slide that other larger mass ships generally have but packs plenty of room for weapons. The rebel A-wing on the other hand is a very low mass ship and many rebels have voiced complaints about it having to finally deal with what Imperials have dealth with from day one. However, many still choose it for its superior turning and speed mods. Typically it also forces them to go for disables in PvP instead of outright kills due to the lack of weapons. I have no comment on the B-wing and most people refuse to fly them for some reason.

So as to your question: No it doesn't suck. It does take more work trying to find a proper balance in mass between all of your ship's components and its performance. You will occasionally get a headache trying to balance your mass and sometimes having to deal with inferior parts. Speed and turning mods on the engines are king though. From what I've seen, well made or RE'd engines with alot of speed make up for most downfalls of heavier ship while improving performance on the lighter ships (although its hard to find a 80+speed engine with under 5k mass sometimes) while RE'd weapons or just 3 run of the mill big guns solve the rest (my TIE advanced sports a pair of 2400's and does very well vs. teir 5 while still having enough mass for armor and everything else).

Iam 3/3/2/2 Imperial Inqusition Pilot and Iam having loads of fun. The missions are what really drive the grind. ImperialPilot is the best for a couple of diffrent reasons.

1. We have the coolest looking ships,

TIE Interceptor

TIE Advanced

and more

2. Look at our multi-player ship. It looks sweet. You cant beat it.

3. Bomber Strike. Enough Said.

4. Lets put it this way, What would you rather be flying, a b-wing or a TIE Oppresor

Come on its easy

To agree with my felow Imperial Pilots, and to state what may be an unpopular opinion, I believe that Imperial Pilots are the best there are.

We fly longer and harder missions than anyone else (with Storm Suadron flying the longest and hardest), we do more with less mass and therefore lower level equipment. For an imp pilot, getting a higher equipment cert usually means that you can outfit your ship with one new piece of equipment form that cert, not a full rebuild.

Honestly I think it makes us much more elite in the skies than any other faction.

It's like the old saying: Ginger Rodgers did everything Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in high heels.

I'man Inquisition Imp Ace. In my interceptor or advanced I can decimate all comers (assuming I know they're there, of course :smileytongue with ease, aside from A-Wings...those are the only things that really are able to match me turn for turn, and they're tiny little buggers, so they're tough to hit.

I've Ace'd both Imp and Reb and I've got to say I actually enjoy flyingthe Imp ships more, and though the Awing ispretty awesome - the Advanced gets my vote every time.

If you see (usually) neutral pilots trying to form up groups of 10 pilots and more to tackle the odd mission that is actually "difficult" in their tree (usually a difficulty level not even scratching the difficulty level of most tier 3 and 4 imperial missions) it tells a lot about this too...

You just don't develop strategies and piloting skills when you never had to use them until maybe the last tier 4 mission .

(Yes I am still annoyed that the RSF tree was such a joke to advance through, way too easy and as such boring for my taste )
