The data retrieval guys are doing a second pass on the drive to try to cobble together the database. I'm not crazy about the odds, but I'm going to continue to hold off on the chance that something good will happen. They told me they might have an answer by tomorrow, more likely on Monday.

It's not just the user-submitted data I hope to get back in the optimal state, but also the almost-fully corrected class table, and some other behind the scenes stuff that will be a PITA to recreate.

Thanks to everyone for your patience.

By Monday night I should know whether I'm reimplementing a database or restoring a bad one and going to work fixing it. I'll keep ya posted.

The Devs should take note of updates on progress like this. /hatsoff for doing such a great job of keeping the masses informed. Your site is appreciated, and so is your communication.

I'll try to get word around Radiant about this, hopefully when you get it up you'll be back up to a optimal submission shortly.

Love the site, I'm twitching here waiting for it to get back up... Yes I'm the unofficial spaceloot junkie.

meh, the secret to the crash was Nuthar and myself (Naritus boys) overwhelming all the other servers. I was hoping to get double the next closest person....then drive gave out

So am I the only one near the top of the leaderboards that submittedonly what I had looted just beforehand? No wonder I was going slower than Itet, he's got whole buildings crammed with components

And sorry for us Naritus boys exploding the database with our submissions, it won't happen again (or will it )

So I get an email this morning from UPS alerting me that there's a package in the mail from the data recovery guys expected to arrive on Monday 10/17....but I've got nothing from the data recovery guys telling me what they were able to get back! I'm gonna try to get some more information out of them today. This seems like it is _probably_ good news...

Alright, so we're definitely in fingers-crossed territory here. I talked to the retrieval guys and they said that they were able to 'get all the files requested but there was maybe something a little weird' with one of them. Whatever the hell that means. Anyway, we'll know around 10 AM EST Monday.

We're back.

We lost some data.

But not too much.

I've now got an honest to goodness backup system in place.

The system may act a little weird for a week or so as we break in the new server. If you experience anything anomalous, please post here right away.

Whew.

Hm..something is crashing the database. I bet we've got some garbage data embedded in the database file somewhere that is causing mySQL to crap out when it tries to read. Restarting the DB service fixes the problem.

I'm leaving the site up for now. If you get this again, let me know what you were trying to do when the error arose. I haven't been able to recreate it yet.

I'm going to go see if I can find a db file repair utility for mySQL.
