Itet, KevinBO, Lantyssa - thanks on behalf of the whole community. The site would be worthless if it weren't for people like you.

I guess this is a combination belated "you're welcome" and a"you have my sympathies" on the technical problems. I hope it turns out well, this is an awesome site and I'd hate to see it screwed up in any way.

And since you were talking about L8 armor with crazy stats... I wish i had a 6kish mass to go with the 2178.7 L8 plate I looted tonight. Right now the only decent armor near 6k mass is my not-yet-RE'd pair of L6's at 1127.9 armor, 5653.4 mass. I don't really know why I even bother hunting for nice armor, I just tend to want the best of whatever will work in my heavy-X

Anyway, good luck reviving the site, I'll be sure to resume contributing once it's back up, selling my loot to the chassis dealer without submitting it feel strange

I've got a pretty good line on swiping a second hand server from my place of employment. Just have to come up with a diabolical plan to get it 27 feet from my cube to the stairway. It'll be a much more robust platform if I can pull it off.

Data recovery is complete and DVDs with the original code and database are winging their way to my door even as we speak. Looks like we'll be back in business Monday night.

The new server, a slightly aged Dell powerEdge, is installed. I'm currently looking at creative ways to acquire / hack together a redundant array, but until then my trusty USB drive will remain the (now automated) backup method. The configuration is tested and ready to roll. DVDs with my data on them are ona UPS truck somewhere and should be at my door tomorrow. I anticipate being all wired up by late tomorrow night.

I've spent the downtime analyzing site traffic - it's not half bad. I'm giving serious consideration to spending my next development cycle converting it from a sideline to a professional venture.

I'd like to hear thoughts from the current userbase on:

- what sorts of modifications you'd like to see made within the current functionality

- what new applications you'd like to see added *

Don't hesitate to shoot the moon. I've done my own brainstorming and know a few likely directions to go in, but I'm very interested in hearing ideas. What sort of functionality would keep you coming back every day?

* Yeah yeah yeah, I'll fix the droid speed thing first.

I know a lot of people are lookin' forward to having this site back up again, it's great.

Here's a suggestion... Or rather a question: Would it be possible to modify the data entry section to allow entering multiple parts all together in plain text format? (Kinda like swgcraft.com's resource entry system is now.) Might make it easier and faster to enter tons and tons of parts.

It would. I'm absolutely sure that it would result in more database erorrs, however. My question for users is, do you think it's worth trading accuracy for higher submission frequency? I'm inclined to say no, which is why I haven't coded it, but I'm willing to bend to majority opinion.

Make a section for people's RE'd items, but have the code figure out what the Pre-RE stats were for each stat then plop them in a general table of min/max ranges. I know is impossible to find out which style of part had which max stat but that's still data people can use to figure out what a relative min/max would be on that RE level of part.

It is good to hear things are coming along! (PowerEdges are pretty good servers. I have a few running at work and have been happy with them.)

The only improvements I can think of right now relate to giving us more options for viewing the data.

- Right now it is difficult to get the RE of any given item. While most of them match the Cert level, it would be nice to have that information easily obtained for when it does not. (And also make it clear which is RE and which is Cert.)

- Graphs. Select a component level and be able to see plots of the stats of submitted components, such as mass versus armor. You could have pre-defined plots, although being able to select the axes would be great. This would give us graphical representations of the distribution of components.

- More tables. I like the tables where you can see the statistics for each level of component. It would be great to be able to break that down into subcomponents or manipulate the data in ways besides seeing only the extremes of any category.

For batch entering I would also be skeptical of doing it like swgcraft. It is a handy tool there, but it seems like it would be a lot easier to mess up the data entry for components. If some safety checks could be made to ensure accuracy, it probably would be handy.

Argh, hold the phone.

I just got done inspecting the results of the data recovery operation, and it's not great. The code is intact but the database (ie, all the submitted components) isn't.

My most recent backup is from September 9.

I'm working with the data recovery guys to see if I'm missing something, but it's possible that we're gonna be reverting after all I certainly hope that's not the case. I hope to find out more soon.
