Thread: Effectiveness of L6 guns in PVP? Vanilla TIE Interceptor Build

So I decided to quit bitching about ROTW ships and take Leaph's lead.

I'm outfitting a vanilla Interceptor (because I think the Advanced looks like crap, and I know the higher mass would be better). I have some nice parts from my IGI build, and I've made some sacrifices.

Basic load-out is:

L8 RE engine

L1 RE reactor

L7 Protecto-Net RE

L6 RE weapon

Pre-nerf DI

Chaff

Mark I crafted armour

Mark I crafted capacitor

No booster or missiles.

I can run EO4/WO3.

How am I going to do against current PVP targets? I'm especially worried about the L6 blaster.

A really good level 6 weapon will hit like a level 7, but slightly slower. *However*, on a TIE Interceptor, I'd suggest you sacrifice your shielding and upgrade your weapon to hit harder and faster--a level 8 if you can squeeze it in, a level 7 if you can't. The concept behind flying the TIE Interceptor or A-wing or even TIE Advanced is simply to not get hit.

EDIT:

I should add, however, that you need to play with your loadout yourself--don't take my word for it, see how well you like it. Advice is all well and good, but each pilot has his or her own flying style.

I know Was looking for specific experiences with L6 weapons.

The one I just put together does 1564 average damage per shot (calculating thatincluding effectiveness) and just over 4000 DPS. My L7s are around the same damage per shot and just over 5000 DPS, for 3-4k more mass.

DPS isn't as important in PvP--it's how much you hit for when you connect. Well, unless you're just trying to throw out as many shots as possible, which is the other major theory on PvP.

Personally, I run with a level 6/level 7 blaster combination. Been using that combo since I put together an Actis, and kept it since I've switched back to running an old X-wing. My level 6 has pretty awesome stats (I'll post it sometime), and generally something I tap with both cannons isn't going to get very far.

So yes, I think a level 6 is viable in PvP. On a single-gun ship, it's iffy as far as I'm concerned...but then again, you wait long enough, someone will probably catch me in an A-wing with a level 6 or something.

Post stats now, so I can compare I'd drag out mine, but the server's down...

So why iffy for PVP? If you're doing the same damage per shot as an L7, what's holding it back?

The new POBs will be tough for you. I know in mine I can outrun you(unless your lvl 8 is insane)and it would take you atleast 4 shots to get through shields and armor (not counting shunt) in that time my gunners would probably have roasted you, but that really is as it should be. I would agree with Halyn that a lvl 7 might be better, but it is a matter of personal taste. It looks like a capable 1 vs. 1 set up.

You'll love the TIE Interceptor. This is the best ship (in my opinion) in the Imperial Fleet.

This is my TIE Interceptor build, I just recently made Ace so I slapped a few things together.

So, this could be your baseline.

So far it's been a fun ship to play with and I regularly go to Deep Space overt. Haven't had a chance to be shot at in PVP. I can tell you this though, the TIE Interceptor takes down Tier 5 A-Wings with ease and efficiency. I also use it to camp the Droid Fighter Spawn in Endor, which are Tier 5 and are fast and tiny.

Crafted Level 1 Reactor

1.2k mass/ 11.8K Energy

RE L6 Engine

9.7K Mass

69/68/68 Y/P/R, 71.4 Speed

Crafted L7 Shields

17k Mass

1889 Hitpoints, 11.27 Recharge

Front Armor

667 hitpoints/ 1.9K mass

Rear Armor

283.9 htipoints/ 1.5K mass

RE L2 Capacitor

1.1K Mass, 1050 Energy, 31.3 Recharge

RE L2 Booster

1.3K Mass, 31.5 Accelleration, 23.5 Speed (10 second burn)

RE L4 Droid Interface

5K Mass, 17.9 Speed

RE L6 Blaster

9.1K Mass

1.5K - 2.2K Damage

0.66/0.66 Shields/Armor

28.3 Energy per Shot (less than the 31.3 Recharge of the L2 Capacitor)

Chaff Launcher

942 Mass

Good luck with it. All my other ships are gathering dust while I fly this all the time.

Best looking ship, at least

Interesting that you chose an L6 engine. I would have thought that would be suicide in PVP. I have the parts to put together a 71-72 YPR L6, and that would definitely cut down on the mass, leaving enough for an L8 weapon.

I would go grab the stats from mine, but I'm too lazy at the moment, and I should be in bed.

Generally, a rule of thumb for PvP goes something like this:

level 7 blaster--takes multiple hits, but refires fast--better chance of hitting with the "spray and pray" approach.

level 8 blaster--takes one or two hits, but slower refire--more precision required.

A level 6 is going to take the disadvantages of both guns. On a multi-gun ship, that's easier to overcome--but on a single-gun ship, it means you have to be very precise with your shots, especially against higher-speed, low-profileships like the Actis and Belbullab. That doesn't mean it's not still useable, but it'll be more difficult to kill small targets in PvP.

I use a lvl6 engine and l8 borstel in mine and with some creative crowbar action you can get the rest of the stuff in too. as long as you can move 1000+ you should be ok. the interceptor can move with a 70+ypr so you should be fine. I would definitly get a reward engine for the speed if you can. It will RE to about 82.2 and that will get your top speed to 1150 or close to it, with EO4.

Just dug out my stash of L6 engines. Pre- and Post-RE stats:

79 Speed - 82.2
68.8 Pitch - 71.6
68.8 Yaw - 71.6
69.2 Roll - 72.0
8772 Mass - 8421
1452 Drain - 1394

Thoughts?

Regarding the L6 weapon... you're right about the trade-offs. I'd love to have 15k more mass and an extra gun slot in the Interceptor, but I just can't bring myself to fly an Advanced. I like my Interceptor

I used to use a level 6 blaster in my Interceptor, but that was in the pre-Eta-2 days. It earned me a lot of kills, though. They can be pretty nasty guns, especially against targets you can hit more than once every 60 seconds.

I think it could work if you paired it with a missile launcher and made sure to launch one as soon as you landed a blaster hit, but otherwise, I'm not sure the damage per hit ratio would be good enough to win frequently against other interceptors.

Also, while many players have moved up to level 8 or even level 10 engines, a level 6 engine is enough to keep you competitive if you have the ability to do a lot of damage in a short amount of time, and thus make the most of your rare hits. Whether that comes from a big gun, or a medium gun plus a missile launcher, that's up to you.. but for 1v1 fighting, I do think the ability to dish a lot of damage can be underrated.
