Imperial pilot Storm Squadron Tier 3 tips/guide.

Note: I have forgotten about some details of the first two missions, but the core idea is there along with some tips for the harder parts. If anyone have some updates, feel free to post them.

I had great fun with these missions, they are hard, but not impossible. The only downside is that if you die or fail one part of the mission, the entire mission is failed and you have to try again from the start.

Mission 1
My Equipment:
TIE/In, Tier II equipment.
Wingmates:
None.

Part 1) You are sent to escort a transport through the system. Rebel fighters attack constantly, but just focus on disabling them and moving on to the next. Don't worry about the transport, it can take a lot of damage.

Part 2) Once the transport is safe you are sent to capture (disable/dock) and escort(?) a Rebel ship guarded by some fighters. Eventually you will get a waypoint to a new Rebel ship you need to inspect, as you do this a group of Rebels ambush you, take care of these. The easiest way is to disable each one and move on to the next before cleaning up.

Part 3) When the inspection is done, a freighter send a distress call and you have to go help it. Be careful when coming near it cause a static spawn of Tier 4 ships is always in the asteroid field near the freighter, go around them if you can. Dock with the freighter to repair it and proceed to escort it. Several waves of Rebel fighters will attack you during the slow escort, kill them as fast as you can or just disable each one. Eventually the transport will be safe and you can move on.

Part 4) You need to meet with a Shuttle and transport its cargo to a new location. This sounds easy if it wasn't for the fact that Rebel fighters attack you constantly while flying to the destination. The trick to clear this gauntlet is to just disable ships on your tail and always try to head in the direction of the target waypoint. Remember that this is a delivery and not a destroy task, I had about 10-12 ships after me when I docked and completed the mission. When you arrive to the target a Shuttle will Hyperspace in, dock with it as fast as possible and hope you survive. Once you have completed docking the mission is complete.

Recommended Training: Imperial Technology III. You don't have a ship that is capable of handling the mass of Tier III equipment at this point so it is better to take advantage of the Interceptor and the Bomber for further missions.

Mission 2
My Equipment:
TIE Interceptor, Tier II equipment.
Wingmates:
1 Tier 4 Imperial pilot.

Part 1) You need to disable an A-Wing and dock with it, be warned that a group of Tier 4 ships escort it. After this is done, rinse and repeat, another disable and capture mission similar to the previous. Not much to say about these apart from that disable is your friend when dealing with the escorts.

Part 2) Dock with the command shuttle and run a simple patrol, I don't think I even got attacked during this. At the end of the patrol route you get a mission to assist a squadron of TIE's.

Part 3) Travel to the waypoint and meet up with the TIE's. WAIT here until the NPC TIE's engage the enemy, they draw the Nova Courier fire from you so you can sweep in and disable the Nova. Remember to take out the guns first as it will be defenseless with them gone.

Recommended Training: Equipment III. You can load up your Interceptor with a few Tier III things, and get yourself a TIE Bomber and load it up with all you can carry really.

Mission 3
My Equipment:
TIE Interceptor, Tier III equipment, one Heavy Blaster.
Wingmates:
1 Tier 4 Privateer.

Part 1) Meet up with the Lambda Shuttle at the waypoint and dock. As you complete the docking, a number of Rebel fighters spawn in. You need to destroy a set amount of rebels until mission command tell you that you have destroyed enough and give you a waypoint for the next part. Note that you can destroy any Rebel ship you see for this, not only mission specific ones. You will get the task to travel to a new waypoint once this is done.

Part 2) Get to the waypoint as fast as possible as Rebel fighters seem to spawn in endless waves until you reach the waypoint, a good trick here if you have a wingman and some good rear shields is to make a run for it as the fighters concentrate on you and fly straight after you while your wingman fly behind them and just pick them off. The decoy shuttle will hyperspace in when you reach the waypoint, dock with it and escort it.

Part 3) When you escort the shuttle, dont get too far away from it, a wingman really help here as he can concentrate on taking out each fighter while you stay near the shuttle and just try to do as much damage as possible. You need to take out four waves of fighters completely, or in other words get the message "No more enemies" four times. Remeber to stay near the Shuttle and try to disable the ships for your wingman to pick off and this shouldnt be too hard. When you have destroyed enough waves the Shuttle will Hyperjump and you will recieve a new waypoint.

Part 4) Go to the new waypoint and stay near it long enough for the mission to succeed, you will be attacked in waves but with some good piloting skills this shouldnt be too hard. A Nova Courier warps in at the end, but you don't have to destroy it (i think, confirmation needed). Once about ten minutes has passed the mission is complete.

Recommended Training: Imperial Training III. Bomber Strike 1, while a weak offensive special, is great to draw enemy fire while engaging Nova couriers (yes there will be more of them).

Mission 4
My Equipment:
TIE Bomber, Tier IV equipment, one Ion and one Disruptor linked, one Mark III proton launcher, one Mark I spacebomb
launcher (never used this one).
Wingmates:
None.

Part 1) Begin by destroying the squadron of X-Wings at the waypoint, this is a relatively easy task as they are only Tier 3.

Part 2) After destroying the X-Wings, a Lambda Shuttle sends a distress call wich you ofcourse respond to, dock with the shuttle at the waypoint to repair it and escort it to safety. There will be constant waves of Rebel fighters attacking, but just dispose of them until the shuttle Hyperjumps and you can move on to the next part. The shuttle can take a great deal of damage so just concentrate on taking out as many of the attackers as possible, focus on theX-Wings and Z-95's first as they are more easily dispatched than the A-Wings. Once the shuttle jump you can move on to the next part.

Part 3) You need to disable and retrieve stolen imperial data from a Rebel command vessel, and yes, it is a Tier 4 Nova Courier so bring some firepower. It has some Tier 4 X-Wings as escort wich can really mess you up. The trick here is to disable the weapons on the nova first, once you do this he is a sitting duck and you can focus on disabling the escort.
Bomber strike 1 is great here, call it when you are 1.5-2k away from the enemies and go in with all guns blazing
focusing on the Nova weapons. You should be able to take out all shields/armor and possibly one of the guns on your first pass, after you pass it, hit the boosters and get out of range (6-700m) for another pass to take out the other gun. Once all enemies are immobile, dock with the Nova to complete this part. One thing to notice here, if two separate (ungrouped) persons are taking this mission at roughly the same time, only one Nova seem to spawn, and only one person can get the cargo. If this happen, just move away a few k from the waypoint and a new one should spawn.

Part 4) After you dock with the Nova and retrieve the cargo you will get the message that another command Craft is trying to escape the system and that you have to take it out. And once again you need to battle a Nova Courier, this time with only Tier 3 escorts though. Same rules apply, but for safety i completely destroyed the Nova before dealing with the escorts just incase it would get the idea to Hyperjump. Once all enemies are down, the mission is complete.

Congratulations, you are now ready for the Tier 4 grind and even harder missions (or so I've been told).

General combat tips:

  • If you are swarmed, disable the enemies, this will really help getting those blasters off your back as it is faster than outright destroying your enemies.

  • Transports that are to be escorted (with the exception of Mission 3 Part 3) are very tough and don't need you to babysit them, focus on the attackers.

  • TIE Bomber: In combat, use Engine Overload II with your flight computer and stay at about 2/3 throttle, the bomber can't steer at all in full throttle.

  • Dealing with A-Wings: These small ships are hard to hit when they do all their twist and turns, try to aim a little behind the target computer, you will hit them easier this way. Also, if they are in a group with other types of ships, take these out last (as they take the longest time to kill). Less enemies around = less blaster bolts heading your way.

  • B-Wings: Whenever a group of Rebels bring a B-Wing along, try to disable it as soon as possible, especially if you are alone, if they can get a target lock on you they can really hurt you with their missiles.

  • Nova Couriers: Hit their guns first of all, they will continue to fire even if the reactor is disabled. Trying to outmanouever these ships is pointless since the turrets are very accurate, the key is to disable it as fast as possible.

Seding this back to the top. Great information here. This should be in an FAQ somewhere if it is not.

Great guide, but I have something to add regarding the A-wing and targeting it, since it has such a small footprint.

Instead of aiming behind your reticule, I find it much easier to aim in front a bit in regards to the A-wing. That way if they dodge, or shift a bit you won't whiff.

Good to see more budding Storm Squadron pilots out there, regardless of the horror stories you've heard.

You did it correctly. Bomber Strike (even at Ace level) has a chance of failure.

I think a lower-level bomber strike than you can use has a better chance of success ... all commands that can fail are like that.

Ok well since I cant find it anywhere, and I just finished the first mission, here it is :

Tier 4 - Mission 1

Part 1) Patrol

Fly to satellites at 3-4 waypoints.

Part 2) Defend

You get attacked by a few (5-6) tier 4 A-Wings you have to destroy.

Part 3) Assist TIE Squadron

Fly to where the TIE squadron is at and help defend against the attacking rebels. A-Wings, B-Wings, X-Wings, Y-Wings and 2 Nova's.

Part 4) DIsable / Inspect / Dock with A-Wing

Fly to the waypoint and there will be one nearby.

Part 5) Dock with shuttle

Fly to the waypoint and dock with the shuttle, and once it leaves the mission is over.

I will post the others once I have done them.

Very nice guide.

I just wish I could find something like this for tier 4 also.
