Ok been doin lots of pvp in bria the past couple weeks and finially got an awing with a reward engine,

Ne way dogfighting in this ship is great fun..... well at least until i run into an oppressor with 3 IR locked and loaded...

Missles can be dodged from what a friend of mine has done but its a rare chance and avoiding missle lock is a hard task, once uve closed in on ur prey its alot easier because of theyre slow turning. But getting close to this ship is a hard task......

whats ur strategies guys and gals?? Am i doomed to be forever pwned by a missle mad oppressor in an awing or is there a chance i couldbe the guy gettin the higher ratio vs em'......

The biggest danger is when you're trying to approach the oppressor. Approach it fast, but don't do it in such a fashion that allows them to light you up with blasters.

emmm lol!...... see IR or imiage recs cannot be taken down by chaffs, lol this is deep space combatwith verygood players the, 3 IR ones r extremely hard ta get close to lol, and emmmm the gun fire part... well with a pre nerf reward engine and engine ovorload 4 in my awing thats not a problem at all.

Sorry guys that have replied, i apreciate ur input but this what i need....i need a propper strategy facing an opressor with 3 IR launchers locked and loaded. Chafs etc dont work on em, these missles can only be shaken on rare ocassions... or by the road runner *he knows who he is* and gunfighting it is not a problem, getting close is

Naithan and Kitten, two of the best pvp pilots on Starsider, tested this. I think there is a thread still lurking somewhere.

AFAIK, IR2s can be countered by chaff, at least in my experience (missile warning, 2 chaffs launched, still alive after 5 seconds).

Get some missile launchers, ask a friend to launch with you. Try to get a lock and have you friend pull of a whole bunch of manouvers to prevent you from getting lock.Ask your friend what heis doing at the moments you can't get lock. The feedback coupled with what you seeshould give you a pretty good idea on how to fly to avoid missile lock.

Unable to do a forum search but managing to offend two of the most helpful and best known pilots on these boards.

Countermeasures work just fine against missiles of all kind. If you are not happy with your chaff launcher either get a sensor decoy launcher or micro chaff. Alternatively you can try to get better chaff packs.

Or maybe you should learn to use more than one cm pack as 2 image rec 2sblow an a-wing up as well and you need to use 1 pack per missile.

Then you can try to stay at distance to get them to fire at you so you can use your cms in time before you attack them and hopefully manage to disable or destroy them.

Other than that asteroids are the only option.

IRs dont do much damage. you should be fine with a crafted mark IV

Decent Mark II Image Recs can do approx 3000-6000 damage at around 50% to armor and shields. That's 1125-2250 damage after the PVP and shield/armor effectiveness reductions. If one hits for 1675 (the average), you'll live. An oppressor can launch 3 at once. You will not surive 4800 damage in a small fighter. Of course, since good ammo like that will need good quality steel and high-grade reactive, they won't be cheap...

Launch 3 (or more) good quality chaff, and you should survive the IRs from long range. If you can spare another 1k mass, use sensor decoy.

IR2s do 2500 to 5500 damage or so, IME. Not sure about efficiency, but even so they can one-shot a ship using a mark IV crafted shield on a good hit, and two of them can take down anyone.

Two Image Rec II missiles will one-shot most player awings in PvP. Getting hit by three is extremely hard to survive. Remeber, missiles are affected by Weapon Overload, so if your opponent is running WO3, like most people are,his missiles will be doing double their listed damage.

When using countermeasures against missiles, you need to launch one CM for every missile fired. If an oppressor launches three missiles at you, and you only launch one chaff, you are still going to get hit by two missiles, which usually means death. Kitten from Starsider suggested a decent strategy if you're in an A-wing going up against an Oppressor with triple Image Rec II missiles. The goal is to try to get the Oppressor to fire his first volley of missiles at long range so that you will have time to get two or three countermeasures off. Rather then try to race in close to the Oppressor, feint a charge on him, but then angle off. The split second you get the missile launch warning, turn to engage him while launching three CMs. You must then take him out before his launchers have a chance to reset. Depending on how his missiles were crafted, you'll have 4 to 7 seconds before he can launch another volley. In that time you should be training your guns on him and trying to get your own missile off.

Also, keep in mind that once WO3 gets fixed, most people will choose to drop down to WO2, which will make missiles a little less potent in PvP.

Just Kitten is fine but the more advertising for Starsider the better

I don't think he meant specifically you, Ritha.

As for the topic I think only few people will be able to keep any Weapon Ovelroads running as I know quite a few ships who only run from the little bit of extra energy they gain from WO3.
