Thread: Looking for some advice from the pro's

Hey everyone.

As some, or most, of you may know, Kettemoor is having a PvP event tomorrow night. I would really like to attend, but I have a bit of a problem. I'm just looking for some advice as to what you would do if you were in this situation.

Ok, first I'll say that Actis, Belb, and RGI are not allowed at the event.

Ships I can fly:

Vaksai

Krayt

Firespray

Dunelizard

Heavy Scyk

The rest of the freelance pool

Here is the problem...equipment.

I do not have any weapon RE's above level 6. I have enough guns to do a level 7, 8, 9, and 10 RE, but not good ones, and I'm not about to unless I get some really great pieces today.

Best engine I have - 83 speed, 76/74/72, just under 23k mass. This engine is decent, but I don't have enough good pieces to RE either of my QID's, and I do not have a level 10 engine RE at all.

I bought a level 8 reward shield RE that comes in around 30k mass. I have 4 reward shields of my own, but am still lacking a low mass/high regen level 8 to do an RE, so this is the best I have. 2555/2555.

With this in mind, here is how I see things:

No level 8,9, or10 weapon RE= no Vaksai

No level8 weapon RE = no Heavy Scyk

Dunelizard is just too big, and does not perform well enough on either front, imo

I can't fly the Krayt worth a damn = no Krayt

This leaves me with the Firespray. I can kit this out *decently*. I know that my own logic has kind of railroaded things, but I have never been in large-scale PvP as of yet, so I am not sure what is a good *minimum* for a ship like the Vaksai or Heavy Scyk. I have read here that for single gunned ships, level 8 RE is minimum for necessary damage output, and I tend to agree.

So, as I see it, here are my options:

1) Set up the Firespray as best I can, and try touse good tactical judgement when I engage.

2) Give the Vaksai a shot, even though it will be using an un-RE'd Borstel.

3) Set up the Vaksai for speed, and use it as a sniper/interceptor.

4) Set up the Krayt, and get a good gunner to keep stuff off my back and sides.

Any advice at all is much appreciated. I'm not looking to be *uber pilot of the day*, but I am looking to have a good showing. As I said before, I have yet to be in a large-scale PvP battle, and I imagine it is not the same animal as head to head at all, so some things may be quitedifferent.

Thanks everyone

I apologize if this post is incoherent here and there, but I'm tired, heh.

Your best bet is either the Heavy Scyk or Vaksai. Use your L8 shield and engine. Pack in a quickshotted MKV crafted gun. RE'd guns are overrated for PvP.

Looks like someone beat me to it.

Ill be using a heavy scyk, my reward shield same 2555 f/b, and a crafted LvL7 quikshot advanced blaster. Yes it doesnt do as much damage as my boltdriver, but I needs the speed. Make sure it has a low refire rate too, id say .27 should be nice. Use your kickass engine and dont complain lol, its better than what I will be using. I have an RE'd Borstel you could use if you want, but I dont recomend it. Use the Scyk, load up on Chaff because im sure there will be tons of IR2s flying around. If you really want to use the Vaksai, ask Jey for advice, he is **edit**ing amazing in it. I am sure you will do good and look forward to seeing you there. Agree 100% The more shots you can put down range the better. Faster is almost always better for large scale PVP

Also, if this is your first group event try to stay in a support/wingman role and let the big boys go after each other. Chances are there will be a few pilots looking for thier "Red Baron" and won't even bother with you. This of course will give you the chance to swoop in and get a few good kills. The wost thing any pilot can do is count out the "new guy". I've seen it happen in every large scale battle. You've got pilot A and pilot B who are always gunning for each other but totally forget about pilot C who is creeping up on pilot A's 6. Be pilot C

I'm with everyone else. Use a Heavy Scyk, L8 engine, L8 shield, and a quickshot Mark V blaster. Build it so you can run EO4.

Heavy Scyk is you're best choice. I might leave off the reward shield and opt for a 1900/1900 crafted with slightly better armor. 30k's a lot to throw in there. Especially after you've got 23k in engine (not bad at all btw) and a heavy Mark V crafted rapid fire weapon (go for the .25 refire's btw). Make sure you're happy with the rest of you're ship before you dump in that shield. If it doesn't fit after you're finished, like I said, dump in the Mark IV crafted and run front shield heavy.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses, everyone...they are much appreciated.

Here is the basic setup I have as of right now:

Heavy Scyk

Reactor - Mark II, 13.5k gen, 3200 mass

Engine - Level 8, 76/74/72, 83 speed, just under 23k mass

Shield - Reward, 2555/2555, 30.6k mass

Armor - 656/538 Mark II's , front and back, 2300 mass each

Capacitor - 1332 energy, 40 regen, 4047 mass

Booster - 1500 energy, 23 speed, 1484 mass

DI - 16.2 speed, 7877 mass- really looking forhelp on this part in particular

Weapon - Advanced Blaster, 1527-2569 (.48/.48), .26 refire, 14479 mass

CM - Micro Chaff, 5655 mass - Will regular chaff be good enough?

95055/96658 Mass

Any direction and comments are welcome.

Regular chaff will probably be fine. I use Micro Chaff and Sensor Decoy when I can, but its absolutely not necessary. As for the DI, it depends on your server's resources, but I know that on Bloodfin you can get crafted DI's that run about 2.5-2.7k mass and around 17.5 speed. Not quite a prenerf, but not horrible either\

Also, with that setup you *may* be able to get by with a 12.5k gen mark 1 overdriven reactor. Could save you a bit more mass. Anything else is pretty much just nit picking. You should be able to be competative in that setup.

I'd change out the booster for an RE'd Level 4 Reward Booster. It'll weigh in at 3055 mass with 26.5ish speed and about a 12-15 second burn time. It'll help you get the heck out of Dodge if you're overmatched.

Do the math on your energy needs. You can probably get by with a Mark I reactor with 12.5k or so energy. For the DI, a Mark III is 2.6k mass 17.5-18 speed or Mark IV is 6k mass 14.5-15 speed would be a good replacement. Also, I would downgrade to a 900 mass chaff launcher and run bigger armor. If you have 1200 mass left over when you're done, go to a sensor decoy launcher.

Your engine kinda worries me. I'd bet a Mark IV crafted would be better than that. I don't have any hard numbers on me ('cuz I'm at work), but you should seriously shop around. I know there's several really good shops within a kilometer or so from Theed and some others really close to CNet on Kettemoor that should have something better for a very reasonable price.

Er... The engine is fairly nice. I think he's concerned with speed. Don't fret its plenty fast and yourpitch andyaw are certaintly acceptable, roll is slightly low but hardly ever will you roll at full. Don't get a crafted engine, you never beat those PYR value's and you'd have a hell of a time running EO4.

Yea I think your engine is very nice, like I said before. And Obed, can you please send me the WP to this vendor? I want to belive you but Ive tried looking for it and I can't find it.

Also, Domingo try using a lvl 2 RE capacitor and an REd lvl 3 DI, and get some REd armor. ohh and if you want to try out your loadout before saturday, send a tell.
