Thread: Z-95 trumps Y-Wings anyday

So i was trying out my new Y-wing longprobe (right now i'm 2-2-2-1), when i realized that i hated flying it. The thing is just to bulky, as is the regular Y-wing. So i went back to my Z-95, and was tearing up all opposition. I started to rocket through the second tier boxes fighting blood razor rizaks(however u spell that) in lok space. With that i culd just stay right behind the big bulky tier 3's and not get hit once. So i guess the best ships to use arn't always "the best you can use". Also a question how's the X-wing, i assume its better than the Z-95, how about manueverability and firepower (i know the mass is alot more to make it easier than outfitting a 11k mass ship)?

I am 3222 in Havok squadron right now and I have to agree with you about the y-wing. That has got to be the worst ship in the game. It moves like a rhik, but if you are going to be a tank you should get the firepower of a tank, it only has 1 weapon slot or 2 for the LP. At low levels you will never use all the mass of this thing. So, it just sucks as a low level ship. The starter ship was better. I just got my x-wing and only did a quick test flight but I really like it. it hasmiddle of the roadmaneuverability but the 3 weapon slots and 1 missile slot makes this thing a powerful PvE ship. I can't wait to get some of my L6 and 7 RE guns into it with full overloads.

BTW higher cert is not always better

Style does too, tank fliers swear by the Y-Wing, especially with high speed engines in it. I'm a dogfighter, myself, I ran up to 3322 before switching to the X-Wing in aunarmored Z-95, a LONG time before armorless fighters were en vogue.

I've had one get right to the edge of 13k mass.

I'd like to see a z-95 make half as an effective missile boat as a Y-wing Longprobe though.

at 22xx the longprobe beats the z hands down. 2 guns are better than one, and at that speed npcs will have no problem hitting you in either ship.

ive been playing around with the idea of doing a pvp longprobe myself, 2 missile mounts is a very powerful feature.

I disagree. They both have their uses, and in the hands of a trained pilot, both can be dangerous weapons. But even with just one gun, the Z is so much more maneuverable that I seldom get hit unless I get in a spawn of 5 or more NPC's. I find I can get on target much faster, and once I am on target, I can stay on target easier, get the kill, and move on to the next one. In the last several flights, I have not had to repair at all. My shields have born the brunt of the few attacks that settled in behind me, and I am not even using droid commands yet.

I seemed to get hit much more frequently in my y-wing, and had to at least repairmy armor after every duty mission.

I did almost all my missions in my Longprobe through tier 4. The only reason I did the vette in my x-wing is because I happned on a group of people getting ready to do it and I had the mission as well. If you can't fly it?

While leveling I agree that the Y is not the best ship to fly. But as a master I have found it to be a really fun ship to go out and do battle with. I regularly take new pilots up to deep space in it and have no problem going into a "hornet" nest and engaging interceptors, tie's, oppressors, advanced, aggressors etc. We have successfully taken on the Star Destroyer numerous times and my favorite is going against the decimators and gunboats.

Before you say "well ya you have a gunner" know that it is hard for a gunner to hit anything the way I fly ! So I end up doing most of the kills but I wouldn't trade having someone up with me for the world - it's a blast having someone along for all the dialogue.

So, don't throw the Y out with the bathwater. With a good engine, the right droid programs, good shields and great guns it becomes a really fun ship to fly with. Oh and I don't fly with missiles either hehe.

I've always been curious... What would the stats on I-Rec3 ordinance in-flight reloads be? Still enough to do some nasty damage to most player starfighters?

I took the Y-wing 5 times from 2211 all the way to master. It's good. I'd like to see you do the same with a 12k mass z-95.

Heh, I used my Z-95 up till I got my X-Wing as well (I tried to use the Y-Wing... but I simply couldn't hit anything because of the combination of bad YPR acceleration and bad engines). I actually ground on Tier 4 Z-95's in this thing, ironically enough.
