Well, three things:
- get yourself a heavy tie fighter (you should do that as tier 1 actually),
- as you can train one tier 3 skills before having to do the first tier 3 mission, get 2322 so you can use lvl 7 equipment,
- get yourself thegood equipment (mass doesnt matter because of the heavy tie, good equipment isnt expensive, just check the bazaar) - most importantly a 100+ speed engine,
- get a flightcomputer and use weapon overload 3 and engine overload 2 (at least).
Storm "solo" as opposed to Storm "squadron"?
While it is an accomplishment soloing these missions, you have the option to ask for assistance.
Your advice to someone who is struggling is stupid.
I mastered Inquisition on a different server and have a JSF and all that. I recently moved to Eclipse and wanted to get my JSF and finish Storm Squadron before going Rebel for my first time in 2 years. I would never ask for help with any of my missions just out of pride, I'm an accomplished pilot in many other games (IL Sturmovik and countless sims). In this mission I actually WOULD ask for help, but it's FREEKIN 2 HOURS long and I actually feel bad asking anyone to help me. (plus im in a rebel/neut guild and would have to ask a total stranger since I'm new to this server). Thanks for the advice anyways, I only answered you in this fashion to show you i'm not a noob pilot, I'm just not agreeing/liking the way SOE did these missions. I really don't have it in me to try and do this mission again as it truly ruined my mood for the night after I lost the second time. Sometimes, it's just better to walk away even though I'm not one that looks to quitting much as an option.

I need tier 4's to stop attacking me during my mission and even better....I want these missions to not be 12 missions linked together forcing me to START OVER when i die.
- as you can train one tier 3 skills before having to do the first tier 3 mission, get 2322 so you can use lvl 7 equipment, I have enough points to train a box and can't so this isn't true, sorry.

I dont have a problem keeping up with or killing tier 4's. I have a problem with 7 of them attacking me during my mission while 6-8 tier 3's are spawned for me to kill, making it almost impossible to complete my mission after an hour and 45 minutes worth of work.
- get a flightcomputer and use weapon overload 3 and engine overload 2 (at least). I have all 2's right now, mabye ill try and see if a weapons ol3 will fit in. I forgot about the *ehem* bug with it
You will have no problems killing tier 4 or even tier 5 ships then.
A few months ago I started a new char on a new server and after earning a little money on the ground I started Storm Squadron. I soloed everything and it cost me just 400k in advance (300k for the heavy tie). So although it is the hardest squadron its perfectly possible to solo.
Can I just say that SS is really really difficult to solo and the reason is this.
I managed to get to 2222 in SS without any help. I was flying every day and pretty much got a good grip on things. I never fully understood droid commands, missles, counter measures etcas I never found an easy idiots guide to them. People say they exist but I mean a real idiots guide.
Anyway then I hit the first level 3 mission and after several attempts my heart simply sank. I tried for months on and off but in the end I just didnt play in space as it simply made me angry. The result was my piloting skills got worse and worse through lack of practise.
So then I get some help and manage to get through the first tier 3 ss missions with I think two master pilots and another level 2222 - I also had the new Heavy Tie and spent a lot on better equipment. That did nothing to improve any of my skills though because the masters did most of the work for me.
So now I have something to go for and I have broken through the barrier soI work hard again and fly lots and regain some skills, learn some useful droid commands and tactics and I manage to solo the next 2 SS tier 3 missions. Whehay I thought now here comes Master Pilot.
Then I hit another brick wall and totall frustration with the last tier 3 mission.
I would LOVE to solo it but I think I would have to put hours and hours in to do so. I've tried 10 times now and just cant get past the NOVA at the end. I've asked for help tonight on my server but so far noone has come forward so I'll keep trying. I know what will happen though. I'll end up getting angry again and leave JTL alone for another few weeks/months and forget all I've learned.
Advice is welcome, truly - but reminding me that I am a crap pilot by telling me that it is soloable isnt ![]()
Sasee
Sorry, but Storm Squadron IS soloable ... although it helps if you can NOT face 6-8 enemies on escorts, but just 2-3. Remember that there are only 2 waves at a time, and try NOT killing all of each wave. After that, you can probably set yourself to auto-follow and just tank the shots, for the most part. Keep an eye out for upcoming natural spawns, and swing out a bit wide to avoid them if you can afford to do so.
As for that Nova (and that was a LETDOWN for me, I expected an all-up gunboat like in Tier 2, bit of Tier 3-4 level instead of 1), just strafe it a few times with a quickfire-crafted advanced blaster. Forget the turning battles until that is gone, just get in and get out to recover. If you're not going at least speed 900, you should be - but you MIGHT be able to make it work anyway if you're a bit slower.
I have to add that this is not the first, nor is it likely to be the last, pilot lamenting about Storm Squadron missons being un-soloable. Seems that once your Tier 4 your almost forced to start looking for wingmen. I'm a rebel pilot in Chrimson Phoenix on Wanderhome and I know 3 others at the 3rd and 4th tier missons unable to solo this profession. In a way its been good because now we have had the positive experience of flying with wingmen. Flying in groups is alot more fun than flying solo so even though my ego is a bit bruised we all owe each other a debt of gratitude and I look foward to flying with my wingmen. I've played all the Star Wars space sims, WingCommander, Flight sims and was a RL private pilot student at one point in lifeso I know what sitting in the leftseat of an actual airplane is like. Means nothing when you missionsends 3 waves of 6 as mission critical AND another half dozen spawns jump you before you get there. 5 to 1 odds? No big deal. 15 to 1? No way. That littlered eject button is destined to show up on anyones monitor when that many guns are trained on your rear shields atthe same time. And yes I do use droid commands, Cap to shield 4, IFF spoof, High YPR engines speed 101, low mass high hp shields and armor. Level 6 and 7 RE parts when I can find them and an X wing with side strakes and boosters.
To the original poster. Your not alone. don't be afraid to look for wingmen. Chances are you'll find more out there then you though and you may have a whole new level of multi player experiance to look foward to. Beats endlessly grinding Dewbacks for sure.
