Thread: The pin drops are deafening, so here's a pvp question
Pull hard on your YAW + Pitch in one direction, roll in the other. (For example pulling diagnailly down and to the left on your stick whilst rolling to the right.)
keep an eye on your radar, try and get him centered in it, and pull out of it when you have him in front of you again and take your shot. After the 2nd or 3rd time doing this, your opponent tends to wise up.

Sorry to break in with the fighter pilot terminology but a high or low yo-yo normally works just fine.
The move looks like the name sounds...

So I've been pvp'ing for about two weeks now and feel comfortable saying I have the hang of it. I win more than I lose, mainly on the strength of my ship, which is slightly more developed than those I fly against.I don't have my exact specs but the gist:
A-wing
L8 engine: 76/76/75/102
L7 gun that doesn't stink
L7 shield 2150 f/b
L8 front armor, 2k hp
L2 booster
L2 cap
L1 Pre-nerf DI
Mk1 custom crafted reactor to the precise drain
Chaff
One thing I'm working on but have not yet learned to do with consistent success is to safely break out of a turn fight when faced with a superior engine (typically a clone fighter with an L10).
So the question for all you master pvp'ers with scads of experience, how do you set yourself up to break out of a turn fight and create a snapshot opportunity?
I go about it like this.
As my enemies blasters get closer to my ship, I'll manouver in the direction I think it'd be hardest for them to point them at and which doesn't take me across their firing arc. Sometimes, I will intentionally move across their bows which is real risky and only used when I think the guy is better than me and if I use my usual tactics that I'll lose so it is a last ditch attempt to shake them up. (Often gets me killed though)
The truth is though, changing into an opposing vector is risky. Nothing can stop that and it does end up messily at times but the best advice I can give is this.
1.Take note of the above.
2.If you find you're drifting into a parralell head on encounter with an enemy (such as spinning around with both of your noses aimed at each other) then that is a time to change direction.
3.Flying off at tangents. Easiest thing you can do in fact. While you're turning you and yor opponent has momentum. Rather than yanking the stick in an opposing direction merely stop turning and fly straight (jink and juke of course on the way). This meas your opponent has to chase you and as long as you can fly off tangentially and come around with a different manouver while your surprised opponent is getting their act back together, you can give yourself the upper hand or even blast them.
4.Don't be afraid to 'retreat' and double back on yourself. Believe me, if you do this to an aggressor a lot of the time and to the inexperienced they'll think they have you on the run and they might get complacent. Prove them wrong ![]()
5.Aim to be behind your opponent. Not always easy or even pheasable vs. someone with a better engine but if this is the case take note of point number 6.
6. So as your post states, higher lvl engined opponents are a **edit**. Very true. So you can't outturn them, you 'might' be able tooutrun them but if you're anything like me, you won't be running away unless you really have to. So right, simply trying to get behind them due to utilising your engine's max turn rate would be stupid. In a turning 'wrestling' match, the higher r,p,y engine wins. Period. (unless the higher r,p,y engne guy is real silly). Baring this in mind, I do this. I'll turn for a bit but then fly off tangentially (as mentioned before), then because I have my ship's turning sweet pots hotkeyed, I hit that button, flip around and fly back at them, repeat the process etc and this gets them confused and often killed during this time. However...
If they have an iota of skill (which on Starsider they do and then some...) I will go into a turning match, but I'll be changing direction as much as possible.
It is hard to put into words. I mean, the things I have learned I've simply learned. They're untangible 'learned through experience' things which you just 'do' when in the heat of the moment. You can suggest tactics and strategies but the thing is, each encounter makes use of countless manouvers etc so using 'one all knowing, all conquering move' doesn't work (unless its epulse 3 /roll eyes).
So in simple terms just bare this in mind.
1.Don't try and out 'wrestle' a higher r,p,y engine in a turning fight.
2.Hotkey chassis turning sweet spots.
3.Try and lead the fight. Think/consider where the furball will bea few seconds ahead if possible.
4.Spontinaiety, reflection and common sense are your three best friends. Starship parts only go a certain way before no amount of uber gear won't save you. (Shamelessly, I'll present myself and my A-wing vs. any JSF I've ever encountered as proof of how underpar equipment can prevail)
I see you're flying an A-wing so that is cool. With a lvl 8 engine try using 85% throttle as a basic sweet spot. Your engine is fairly similar to mine. Additionally, I use a booster macro, hotkeyed which makes my booster fire for about a second in pvp to shake things up a little. It has no technical advantage apart from at times it can throw off an opponent if judged right. I found too, if say you hit boost, then hit your hotkeyed sweet spot turning speed while turning it does interesting things. Just experiment mate
.
In a tight tight turning battle... if I am losing, I like to wait until the pilot can see my cockpit and then I give him/her the bird.
The shock usually buys me enough time to vape them! ![]()
(obviously I am joking...)

you seem like an experianced pilot so i doubt you are using eo3 still, but if you are you need to move up to eo4.

with your engine you shouldnt be getting outturned much at all even agianst l10 poweredrelics.
Against 80+ YPR on a craft with goodchassis acceleration statsI get outturned. It takes time, but if I let the fight devolve into a strict round-and-round I find that I lose the initiative and eventually the fight.

also, whats the mass on your armor?
Armor is 2016 HP, 9550 mass. It's a fibertech RE. Working on a second one to eventually go on a standard X loadout. In the meantime I'm using a 1319 hp, 5k mass slab on the back of my big ship. The A has a 740 hp, 1650 mass back slab.
For low mass level 8 armor, look no further than Corellian Supreme Durasteel.

don't forget to snap a polaroid shot of their expression..
In a MP ship... You can get your passenger to moon your opponent... this effect is > Epulse. Moon FTW!
that's why I try to stay away from the window's when flying by POB ships.. afraid of what I might see.. especially on those big luxury yachts(sp).. windows all over the damm thing!
