Ok, so I'm pilot 3444 and almost ready for a new ship. I've been reading through the FAQ's and I kinda like both of these. I can load up the X-Wing with tons ofmass + 3 guns, but she's about half the speed of the B-22. What do you guys think? Is the speed worth it, or should I mount some massive guns on the Xwing with a big shield.

Sorry don't have a B-22 but I can say I love myheavy X wing . I have 2 3k+ guns and 1 2k+ gun all on weapon group 1 and some nice shields. I fly in and can take out most anything in a few shots. It is also manuverable enough to not feel like I am flying a house.

Depends what you want to do. A B-22 is great for pvp, it has the exact stats as the Actis, but with a slightly larger hit box I believe, the Advanced X-Wing is one of, if not the, best PvE ships. The same manuverability as a regular X-Wing, but with the mass of a Rihxyrk.

My b-22 rocks. i have it set up pretty good. don't have the heavy yet, but i am working on it.

A friend of mise who has it, uses a good engine and EO3, and she moves good, enough for PVP if it wasn't for this bigger hitbox than most other pilots will have in DS.

if u have money go for the B-22 if not the Heavy X-wing is a ebtter choice. besides load up ur X-wing good and it will be a formidable PvP ship. You can fit a 60k engine in there if u have to.

If you've got an RE'd Level 10 engine with 80+ YPR, go for the Heavy X. If not, you'll probably live longer in a B-22.

For grinding/PvE, take the Heavy X. It will outdamage just about anything else the Rebels get, short of a fully decked out B-Wing.

For PvP, as much as I hate to say it, the B-22 is probably your better bet. It's maneuverability is much greater then the Heavy X, while not really sacrificing a lot of firepower. It's dual gun mounts are more then enough to drop a player in one pass, if you have good guns in there.

Reason I hate to say it is you will then be equated to about 70% of the people out in Deep Space all flying the B-22/JSF, and might get told a few times to fly a real ship.

The X-wing, whether it is the heavy or standard [though the heavy is the obvious 'easier choice'] is one of those ships which fall into my 'acquired taste category'. Basically this means, you have to fly it in a certain way and mindset to get the most out of it. Take my A-wing for instance [sorry, no post escapes a mention of my Awing]. I set it up for high speed high manouverability encounters with the intention of not getting hit at all and make use of it's high AoA and low front profile in order to maintain a position where I can 'face' my opponent from almost any angle without them facing me.

Now while this is the goal of every other ship too ideally the X-wing has the mass..[and the large hitbox] which means you needs a. ultimate stopping power and b. shields which are plenty good. Chances are..in pvp, you're going to take damage. Canon related too...the x-wing is a ship which was able to keep flying after taking medium damage too so bare that in mind. I find my own, with a lvl 10 re'd engine is great if I -have- to get evasive, but otherwise, I'm aiming to one shot my opponent in the first pass. The X-wing has awesome weapon spread after all and three weapon slots to boot. 180k mass is also a God send so you can pheasably fit in a lvl 10 re'd engine, lvl 8 shield/mybe even lvl 10 if you want but mor eimportantly, try three lvl 8 re'd guns or if you're a standard type of guy, three lvl 7's. Fact is, any total damage output on a starship of about 7k weapons wise is going to seriously hurt you're opponent no matter what they're in.

Now as for the Belb, well...it is great in all areas. In fact..it is so generally good, that I can't think of how you'd go about 'specialising' it. /shrug. I guess you don't have to specialise..the scope is so wide. Basically though, if you pvp, you can't go wrong with this ship. If its pve though..well its good but the standard x-wing I'd say wa sbetter even.

My advice is always to get a ship that fits the way you fly. If you can't handle the speed and manuverabiity of a light fighter then don't get one because all of the "cool kids" are flying them. Chances are you can handle a medium/heavy fighter better then they can. Play to your strengths and know your weaknesses. If you are a bad shot (like me) get something that is going to have a nice spread on the guns, be able to hold a few missiles, and be able to get you the hell out of dodge if need be. If you can't fly a tank don't fly a tank. If you can't fly a squint don't fly a squint. Once you have a handle on what kind of piloting style you have then getting your self into the right ship will be that much easier.

The general rule of thumb is the more power the better for PVE. The more speed and manuverabilty the better for PVP. Although there are exceptions to those rules. I use my Intercepor or RGI for PVE. I don't do much damage but I don't get hit very often so I will get the kill....eventually. For PVP I am in love with my RGI but because of the hit box it's not 100% fair so I have been using my Oppressor more. I use it mostly because everyone else is using the Eta or B-22 and for speed, anything less than an interceptor or Advanced means you're dead. So the Oppressor gives me the power I need to get that megablast in on the first pass and have the armor and shields to absorb a nice pounding. Plus she is loaded out with missiles so if I don't get them on the first pass I'll be able to cut and lock and dust. I am a long time speed freak so I still have allot to learn about the Oppressor. Hopefully by the time I master it, the RGI will be fixed and I can get back into a ship I know how to fly.

So....it's up to you. The heavy-X is the ONLY ship that gets me a little nervous when I see it in PVP. But the B-22 is an all around beast of a good ship and is well suited for both PVP and PVE. Plus..with the right booster on it you get those nice quad pipes sticking out of the side that make her look mean. A B-22 is the 57 Chevy of starfighters. Even if you get blown up in one you will still look damn cool. It's a shame we can't put a flame texture on them

If you're not planning on dropping Rebel pilot then I'd heartily recommend getting the Xwing. It's a PvE beast and will really help with the master missions.

That's not to say that you can't get a B22 as well. They go for about 300k on my server and you've probably made that in cred chips from your tier 4 missions, so if you can get one, go for it.

The only word of warning with the Xwing is if you want to try for more than one mastery and want to finish up as an Imp pilot, then it might be better to use your mission to get the RGI instead.

I've got pretty much all the neutral/reb ships (plus a JSF) and I found it's a kind of love at first flight kind of thing. I can see the benefits of the JSF and B22 but they just don't seem to flick my switch (the B22's like a space going 70s caddy to me). My heart has always been with the Xwing since I was a kid, and the first time I flew the Advanced, tricked out with my best RE stuff, I was sold.

If you have the cash, get as many different ships as you can and just try them out. I think your heart will let you know pretty quickly which is the ship for you.

Whoa! thanks for all the advice everyone, wasnt expecting that many informative posts.

Finally soloed my 4xxx mission tonight, so now it's time to play with my new toys. I already picked up a B-22 and I think I'll grab a heavy X-wing as well. Since they both have major advantages, I see no reason to pick one over the other. I'll have to fly them both and see what suits me best.

Next up, soloing the vette

Just wanted to update everyone, I put together the B22 and it is incredible. I fly circles around the Imps and Black Sun, best of all is I barely ever get hit! Soloed the next mission first try. Very impressive.

with that extra mass you can easily fit a good engine in your Heavy X you probably wont fit it in ur B-22(easily) so if you could get both. if you have money buy a Bel if not get the HEavy X. I traded my bel-22 with 800k for a set of clone armor for my muesem of crap i dont really need.
