Thread: speed vs high mass (awing vs Ywing)
Even the Xwing is in question. Wish I could get my hands on an Xwing but that I fear is a touch out of my skill level reach.
Anyone care to enlighten to the advantages of even the Grievous?
go with the xwing ![]()
but seriously i would go with the grevious or awing. ywing is just to slow for tier 4. Yes you can kill them but it takes awhile and a lot of fancy piloting. grevious is probibly your best bet. I haven't flowen it but it sounds about the same as an xwing but with 10k less mass and 1 less hard point. Lots of people like the awing, i am not one of them, its to small and fragile in my opinion.

The Grievious has X-wing (closed wing) speed and handles at least as well as the A-wing...
I look at it as an A-wing with +25k mass and +1 gun.
I loaded it up with mediocre parts and have been tearing up the Missions. Man o man is this thing fast. I actually have to slow down to keep up with tier 5 Awings! It is a little fragile but I usually smack down the heavy hitters faster than they can get behind me.
With the slim body I really only have to worriy about my frint and rear as side hits seem rare.
If you have the means to get one then get one. Turns on a dime and I battle at full throttle, not 1/3 trottle as in my Ywing.
Space is fun again!
I havn't flown the grevious so don't know what it's weapon placement is like but if it's closer together than an X-Wing then it ought to rock.
The ARC is a fun ship too although hampered by lack of convergance it's a right hoot to fly - I often fly mine just for the buzz.
In PvP with my old X-Wing, I did pretty well. (Don't ask about number of kills or kill ratios...I stopped counting a long time ago.)
That Heavy X-Wing is...unbalanced. That thing should maneuver like a Tie Oppressor/Firespray/Krayt, not like a 100K mass younger sister. But I imagine that if you take the time to pop in an RE'd Reward Shield, 2 RE'd Level 8 guns, a RE'd Level 10 gun and a RE'd Level 8 Reward Engine (from any Freelance), it would kick some serious butt.

grievous is a once in a lifetime ship only... its a shame to decay the hitpoints on it when you cant go to deepspace for decayfree repairs.
the big problem for new pilots is finding good guns with low mass to stick into it. Getting the new questonly 180k mass one would help alot butI dont know if its fixed yet since I dont have one, the 100k mass X-wing is the best pve fighter of all the older ships.
The3 guns on the X creates a firepattern of 2 triangles, one on each side of the cockpit. Its alot easier to hit small targets with an X-wing.
if you just cant decide... get a Y-wing longprobe, more mass than your regular Y-wing and it has both guns pointed forward and an extra missile slot.
the A-wing is weak in pve, 1 gun just doesnt cut it. you can get a RE'd level 8 reward gun into it if you have one though... but i still prefer the other ships.
well... bottom line: get the X-wing, testfly it and your grievous.. if you feel comfortable with the X then use it for the grind up.
I'm sorry, but this is poppycock!!!
Take a look at most of the PvP threads here. The A-wing has the smallest to-hit-profile of all the Rebel ships. The only one even close is the Jedi Star fighter, that rebs cant get yet. Most serious PvPers go with the A-wing. It's not hard to kit out properly, you can use crafted and looted parts. I even managed to get a lvl7 crafted cannon, MkIII protons, decent shields and armour in to mine, and have mass to spare. Yes, the X-wing has fire power, but it's too bloody easy to hit. Yopu cannot go head to head wioth an Oppressor and expect to come off best, try in an A-wing and you will have a bloody good chance. In the right hands, the A-wing is an awsome fighter. I'd PvP in mine all the time if I could.

Ive been using my 150k Mass Ywing since I got it. Im now a 4333 and lookign at both the Awing and the Grievous (which I have) and wondering, what are the advantages to a low mass high speed ship?

Why are you staying in the stock Y-wing? Do you have a dedicated and skilled gunner or something? The Longprobe is a much better ship. Not only do you get 15k more mass but you get two missles and both guns are controlled by the pilot. The A-wing, X-wing, and Y-wing longprobe each have their own PvE rolls. For some missions the A-wing is better but not for all. I've done all my tier 3 and 4 missions in my Longprobe.
