Thread: Can't hit ANYTHING 90% of the time!

I spent 15 minutes dogfighting against a TIE Fighter, Tier 3, in a Y-Wing ... I could only rarely hit it. I managed to get lucky and disable engines, and STILL had little luck hitting it! I eventually managed to kill it firing from starboard and a bit forward ... before this, I had the last mission of Tier 2 Rebel on Lok, and couldn't hit a TIE from 10m dead astern when it was flying straight, level, and slow ... and I matched speeds with it. I could ONLY hit the freighter there, but it was enough. Is there ANYTHING I can do about this!?

Never mind, it's mostly back to "not easy to hit, and sometimes all-but-impossible, but mostly possible". This is after logging.

Do you use a joystick? Sounds like your screen might've been a bit off center, try hitting 5 on your keypad to make sure you're looking dead ahead

or a sync or lag issue, I have heard of friends having probelms like this sometimes with chat lag too. After logging issues were solved

You're probably aiming to literally, as the lead indicator is terribly inaccurate. The trick is to aim slightly ahead of the lead indicator. How far ahead is dependant on the speed and direction of the moving target. Aim closer to the indicator if he's moving away and vice-versa. Also, aim further ahead with faster targets and vice-versa.

heh, i find i hit more often when i aim slightly *behind* the lead indicator - i aim less behind it (almost dead on the lead indicator) when it's moving away from me, and quite a bit behind it (sometimes up to half the distance between the indicator and the enemy ship) when it's coming towards me.

i use mouse though, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

A friend of mine had the same problem... durring the day when the server is busy. In the middle of the night when the peeps are in bed, he had much better luck hitting things... Keep a can of Red Bull by you side and go all night

Probably sync or lag, though the network numbers didn't seem it. As I think I said, one TIE was flying straight, level, and slow, and I was following it ... no leading THAT target! It wasn't that my screen was off-center, it IS but that's intentional, I zoom out of the cockpit a bit for better visibility.

TIE have a relatively small hit box but what I have found it that they are easier to hit if I am farther away. If you are too close my hit rate drops to about 50%. Try backing off a bit on a disabled ship and see how you hit. Then move right up on it and fire away. I think you will notice a difference.

The only time I've seen anything fly straight, level, and slow and not be hittable was when my power flickered off and reset my router. Lost connection for a moment and the enemy ships were stationary and unhurtable.

The lead indicator is just there to give you a general idea where to aim, up to you to find the sweet spot to aim at

I've been having this problem with X-wings lately, the shots just seem to go straight through them!!

Everything else is easy to hit, fighting against Tier 4 & 5 X-wings at the moment just makes me look like an awful shot!!!

If you'r flying a ship with wingtip guns the spread on the will often miss your target. what I do is yaw into my targets turn so my wingtip blaster fire is in the same plane as their turn. This way the wingtip blasters are more likely to hit.

A few people have hit on some suggestions right on the money.

What ship are you using?

Are you leading the target? ( the leading reticle is junk )

Also, supposedly it's fixed now, but for a LONG time there was an issue
where the client and server would go out of sync, and you'd be unable to hit anything
until your client and the server resynced.

Also, you have to take into consider ation the sheild top/bottom invulnerability bug.

Once in a while you will score a hit, but it will just bounce off the enemy ship.
