Thread: The current state of PVP and the ROTW ships influence.

I reativated a month or two ago to find that ROTW had introduced new ships. Like many people the first thing I did was rush off to get my hands on a JSF. After logging countless hours in my TIE Adv, TIE Int, and Oppressor, a new ship was a welcome breath of fresh air.

The newness wore off in a week...
So you're telling me I can fit a lvl 10 RE engine in a ship and still have room for a full strenth shield, two high lvl RE weapons a booster and a CM launcher...? Why would I ever fly my old ships again?!

As most of the pilot community has found, the JSF is the end all for PVP. No other ship has as many strengths as it does. Because of this it has been widely rejected and those who pilot it for the sole purpose of PVP shunned.
Thank the maker. JSF vs. JSF battles are increadibly boring.

So what about the other ROTW ships? Why are we allowing their presense to affect our ship selection?

Every Sunday on Bloodfin we have a PVP event. (msg Starscream or xTekx for info) And up until the last couple of weeks, I would show up to find mostly Tie heavies, Xwing heavies, Z95 heavies and the occassional JSF/B22. The worst part is, as much as I've grown to hate these ships, I normally would show up in a TIE heavy.
In the last two weeks that trend has changed somewhat. People have been going out on a limb and flying specialized fighters. Ayanami and her Awing with a lvl 10 RE engine and no shields. Nesanya and his tricked out TIE Int. Nearro and his Oppressor (which I'm still in awe from, btw). This trend forced me to evalutate my ship decisions. I immediately wondered why I cared if a heavy X with a lvl 10 RE would manage to vape me in a circle fight while in my pre-ROTW TIE's. So I built my own TIE Int.

50k mass and one gun, how the hell would I compete with a JSF/Heavy varient? The answer was simple, I won't. Regardless I took the first step back towards the retro ships and will never go back.

Let me tell you, nothing is more satisfying than vaping a JSF in a bone stock, pre-ROTW Intercepter. Granted the odds are generally against me if the pilot is experienced, but who cares.

And that is exactly the message I'm trying to put accross with post. Since when did we care if some noob in a JSF can occassionally blast us out of the sky? We're pilots, not uber leet jedi. I don't fly to have the best Kill/Death ratio. I won't missle someone if I'm in a 5v2 on the 5 side. Nor would I EP3 someone just to get a kill. Leave that to the weekend warrior pilots with their crafted engines and IR2 launching macros.

I urge the pilot community to start being true pilots again. Re kit your ship this week for an upcoming PVP event. Throw that lvl 10 blaster in an Awing with a lvl 6 engine. Dust off that old pre-ROTW xwing. Drop the lvl 8 reward RE shield and fly a 65k mass fighter with a lvl 10 engine and the biggest weapon you can fit. Become inventive in your ship kitting again, and add to the diversity which is so lacking in PVP.

Its time we quit our whining and start doing something about it. Don't let space turn into the SWG ground pvp.

And when you manage to pull off a 50% win/loss ratio at your next event in that goofy ship you kitted, smile and realize that you just had fun.

Im not one to normally brag, gloat, or go around saying how good i am. Infact ill acutally deny im any good at all. Im acutally used to dying, ALOT. I learned that from planetside. But personnaly, looking at myself in the mirror, i would be a bloody liar if i said i didnt care about my kill/death ratio.

Intentionally handicapping myself and dying multiple times as a result is frustrating, espeicaly when i know im capable of performing better. I found that out this weekend when i took a dunelizard to furball that had nothing but ROTW ships.

Ill unass my ROTW ship when my competition does, and not before.

I don't have the patience to farm loot in anything but my heavy X, and I'm almost alwaysdeclared, so I'll fly it for PvP if the opportunity arises.

It's worth noting that the opportunity has NEVER arisen, because I'm on Lowca, or as I like to think of it, the DirtServer. 200+ hours in space the last 2 months and nary a beep from Mister Z.

All of that notwithstanding, I'm going to be an A-Winger when I finish the RE jobs. I've read and seen enough to know that I'm firmly in the more-righteous-than-thou camp. My Bel is going into cold storage.

I think that pretty much sums up the problem with PVP and ROTW. Don't ever complain about a JSF with that philosophy

I'd suggest realize that you are a better pilot than most and quittrying to prove it!

But then again, thats just my 2 cents.

PS: *Regarding the newer pilots who have replied to this post*

Don't let my post discourage you're ship selection while learning pilot. Its just as important to fly a JSF as it is to fly a low mass fighter. Let the Intercepters and Awings teach you mass management and let the JSF show you what to strive for in a ship.

WHile im quick to point out why its out of balance, and why it shouldnt be the way it is, i dont really complain about it ingame. Infact, so long as i dont present myself as a large target*, i find i blow them up quite nicely.

*next to your engine, your profile is key. Damage reduction comes in two forms. Mitigation, and avoidance.

Very Well said, its inspiring. Kudos to the original post.

I fly an X Wing, because I dont like the modifications of the Adv one; some pople call me crazy, but the truth is that i love Star Wars; i have allways dreamed to be a great Pilot and fight for the Alliance in the Star Wars universe. I deeply enjoy fly an X Wing (except for the crapy style thinny SOE designed engines), i don PVP too much because of that. I was just about to fit and adv X and try some PVP. But after reading this, i think its is more enjoyable blast some Eta2 with my old T65. Something like a personal sign, i want people to say "hey there goes the crazy old X-Wing pilot".

I dont care if im beat all the time; if you analyze the JTL, is not very challengin to fly (no damage from collisions, no friendlu fire, etc)

I kill nubships in my Ywing LP, have also gone PvP in my 2seater Ywing scaring the crap out of my gunner hehe. I usually win, even in a turning battle. Thats what 6000+ protection is for.

Maudee's one of those guys who's fun to fly with/against. He let me duel his TIE Interceptor one night - was that something like a level 10 engine in there?

My TIE Interceptor isn't really weak in PvP at all. It's lighter on defense and offense than most Actis, and I don't have any room for missiles. But I don't feel handicapped, I think the thing actually suits my personality for PvP better than some other ships. Besides, I LOVE the comments I get from people when they realize it's a stock Interceptor and not the RGI.

I've shifted my philosophy to telling people to fly whatever they have fun in. I firmly - firmly - believe the RotW ships are stupidly out of balance, but honestly my 50k mass meets the minimums for space combat just fine and dandy.

i'm surprised anyone would be stupid enough to use xwing heavy opr jsf ships in pvp in the first place since some of can't be replaced!! now the tie heavy , z-95 heavy, and the syke heavy i can see using due to those are easy enough to repair. but i see your point. then again it up to the pilots what they want to fly. but in honesty i believe that from th info from the hoc dev chat pvp will be thrown on it ear again when mp elite equipment is fixed from the sound of mp ships will eventually become some of the most powerful ship the dev hinted in pvp it would take 2-3 well equiped ship possible more to take out the mp ones like the nova or yt-1300. but it could be fun to see some mp ship vs mp ship battles

just forget about the time line it nolonger exits her hasn't for some time. we're in a virtual star wars universe and it our time line not the movies. so its what we make of this universe ourselves. once this is realized then you'll start having fun

Why would you need a replacement? You can still get your ship to launch/limp over to deepspace, even if it is at 0/2000 hp.

The only problem you'll run into in getting your ship to deepspace is if your engine or reactor are out and you don't know any rebels with the jumper cables you'll need.

I'll go easy on you, but you shouldn't call people who might know more than you do, "stupid." Not only do pilots not need to worry about decay in Deep Space, there are tricks for repairing outside of Deep Space. Even if you do take decay, a chassis will never decay beyond 10/10. In PvP, this is a very minor handicap, as most of the time if the chassis takes hits you're going down anyhow. And last but not least, if you fly not to die, won't matter anyway.

I hate flying against Heavy X's in my Interceptor, maybe more than A-Wings. Those things soak up a lot of damage, and 1 level 7 gun can make killing them quite the adventure.

Yeah, I've had a lvl 10 RE engine in my intercepter before. Although fun to fly and hard to hit, a lvl 4 RE blaster doesnt do much even with WO3. The price you pay for 90% of your mass being used by and engine!

Currently running a lvl 6 RE engine in her with a lvl 7 weapon and a full component setup. Working on a new setup using a QID based RE and a lvl 7 (6?)weapon, dropping the shield down to a lvl 3 or 5 and running front extreme heavy. Still have to work out the details, but I'm sure it will be very minimal as far as luxuries, hehe.

Speaking of, don't suppose anyone knows if a chassis speed mod affects the PYR values as well?

If it does, a 100% speed chassis might be able to get away with EO3 and use WO4 instead. Just a thought.

PS. Nesanya, I won't be making the event this weekend. Just finished moving into my new place and don't have an internet connection setup up yet. (currently hijacking the neighbors wireless , START USING WEP PPL!) See you soon hopefully.
