Thread: Privateer ships in PvP

What do you think is the most optimal privateer ship to use in PvP? Or ath the least, what are your thoughts of privateer ships as it pertains to Pvp? Of the lineup, i can only concieve of attempting to use:

1. Vaskai
2. Heavy Syck
3. Dunelizard

Generally speaking privateer ships aren't just huge, they're freaking huge. Which is a tremendous disadvantage in a turning fight. while i have seen ryhxirks and krayts in DS, they just arent something id attempt in PvP, theres big and then theres too big. Personnaly ive only seen on Vaskai in pvp, EVER. Ive never fought againist a dunelizard (but i have attempted to use one in pvp, and got soundly owned ). How big is the heavy syck anyway? I dont think ive ever compared its profile to anything.

The scyk is a little smaller than the vaksai. Not by a large ammount, but it feels somewhat significant when cruising around space--I always tended to have a harder time hitting a scyk than a kihraxz of the same level as far as npcs went, for instance.

I bet I could piece together something interesting with my scyk... When I finish my level 10 engine and .68 vs shields L7 ion cannon.

Dunelizard's just too big, IMO, to PvP in. I tried it a couple times...got killed almost instantly on the onset of every engagement.

I use a vaksai, and is fairly succesfull (roughly a 50/50 win/loose ratio). It has a larger hitbox, and is limited to only 1 weapon and 1 ordnace. You can, however, stuff some killer shields in it and a mean engine. I use mine for Hit and Run tactics (I hate turning fights), and I have yet to meet the opponent that can match my speed in a combat worthy ship. Using hit and run also has a major advatage when it comes to the intitial head to head. You practice hth so much, that you almost always, dadgoe your opponent in this dangerous phase of a dogfight. And once you've practiced enough you can also take a few pod-shots at him
I haven't tried any of the other ships, but in my opinion the vaksai is good, if you don't have the playtime to find the best of the best loot components (usually through hours of hunting in DS), since it gives you so much mass.

Jedi are seriously underpowered. They need a snare, invisibility, a ranged nuclear attack and a flying mount that farts fire

Ironically ive thought of using a vaskai in that manner. Its using its strengths, as it has the mass and speed mods to be the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy".

Its large profile i think is its weakess and a good handicap in a turning match, so ive been a bit quisy about using a vaskai "normally".

One of the strengths, in my mind, of the freelance ships is their ability to slide - the Vaksai spins nicely, I hate flying against those things.

My vote though would be for the vaksai, or heavy syck.

the scyk is a tricky little ship.. sometimes it takes longer to kill a tier 2 scyk than it does to kill a tier 5 tie.. i dont know why, but ive always had problems shooting these damn things. Im a privateer also.. but you would never see me try to pvp in anything other than a grevious or JSF

Well thats the point of this thread, finding/analyzing alternatives. The thing that scares me most about the JSF, is the idea of getting used to it.

If I were Freelance, I'd use a Vaksai.

I'd go for lvl 10 engine, lvl 10 weapon, lvl 8 reward shield, mk III protons.

If I was extra lucky, I might even fit a lvl 10 shield in there. I'd run front adjust in turning fights (because I would use it for that purpose) and I think the r,p,y acceleration and the fact it has the same speed mod as the A-wing is awesome. True it is slightly very big, but I think it'd work.

Personnally im leaning more on a syck with a fast firing L9 gun at this point.

Leaph im curious, how many vaskai's have you fought? Ive only seen one in pvp, ever, and he didnt last very long.

i really enjoy flying my vaskai alot with my alt for a change from my b-22. i put a 118speed engine on it and can hit 1810 with boosters, i think i cruise at 1543 with engine overload 3

with 2200 hitpoints shields, 3999dam gun, 13.7 speed di and its a blast to fly
