Thread: The 'vette: a study in absurdity

But I digress. I agree with you to a certain extent. There should be a grind alternative to tackling the vette, but it should be steep, like x4 the amount they have it currently labelled at. It would encourage people to do the 'vette, but it doesn't anchor them to it.
I understand your frustration (and I don't want to sound too gung-ho) but hey -- we can live with one mission we have to group on.
Contact me again in-game.
now i do think the 2hr spawn is a bad idea, but the mission itself is not all that hard.

Ok. Me and another pilot (4-4-3-4) managed to down the vette solely with concussion missiles this evening. He's an excellent pilot, otherwise I think I would have failed it again.
Having spent total 14 hours flying sorties on this mission, I have to say I would still rather have gathered the xp by taking down tier 5 ties. At least I know that's within the realm of possibility. The vette mission just depresses you after a while.
And Imaintain, the vette & gunboat combination is just too hard (though I'm getting better at it, LOL).

I'm not saying that blowing that thing up wasn't a moment of glory. My wingman probably thought my head hit the keyboard. But there is a paucity of pilots on my server.

Bah!This comment really bugs me. I know plenty of people with jtl. Problem is they're all below 3-3-3-3.
Is it my job to be a jtl cheerleader? Because I left my pompoms in a Sims .sav file.
Even my (former) guild leader wasn't interested in flying and yes he owns jtl.
Maybe it says something about the overall flavor of the expansion?
Some of it is good. Now that i've taken far longer than I ever thought tomaster pilot (for a variety of reasons) I think the expansion is clearly loaded in favor of theimperial pilot. I've been using my alt to take imp pilot missions. I cannot believe the difference in loot (via the NPC trainer) and the easeby whichthose flying rakes, the x-wings, are obliterated.

Responding to the bold part...:
I did the toughest Imperial squadron solo in 4 days, upgrading every single thing I could as I went along, and I died plenty.
I've dropped it and gone Privateer (to get Imperial parts, go figure), and I did it all in a day without dying once; I had to wait for another day to do the vette because the spawn was broken.
Worse, I did all the way up to (and including) my first tier3 mission in a Scyk (n00b ship), the rest of 3 and first 4 in the lvl2 light (can't remember the name off the top of my head), and for kicks at 4-4-4-4 i built a Kihraxz for the extra gun, which I used to solo the Imperial Corvette. (That was the only challenge in the whole tree).
Heavily in favor of the Imperials? Hardly.
The only person I know that has done all 9 trees stated that without a doubt, imperial were the hardest trees to do, excepting the imperial corvette, which he could do solo but "actually requires caution" were his words.
IMO you simply improved in skills, and know better what to fit.
