Thread: Aiming rectacle...
adjust your speed slightly till your shots start hitting when the two reticules are lined up.
the more practiced you get at flying the more you will learn to compensate for different speeds by allowing to lead on your target by more or less than the fixed reticule.
Laser bolts do travel at lightspeed...
as long as im not doing a mission, or in a group thats not all in comms, i fly with the UI off. (ctrl+shift+h).
i just track the targets by fire (lol), but i've always noticed, that the lead changes depending on the ship you are flying, and your target. always takes me a few min to get use to a new ship for this reason.
It appears to me that the targeting reticle problem may be one of two things. It is tier related, or it is related to the guns you have.
I noticed that flying my Scyk with one gun against tier 1 targets I hit regularly. Tier 2, I miss some, and on Tier 3 targets I miss more. It is almost as though there is an invisible "hit sphere" surrounding the targets that affords a large margin of error for T1 targets, and is increasingly smaller for higher tiered targets.
It could also have to do with what guns you have where. I was flying my Rhyxxyk (sp?) with a mining laser in W1, Tractor in W2, and Ion cannon in W3. I was missing like crazy using the targeting reticle just firing W3. I hit better with W1 though. I landed, and reconfigured my weapons moving the cannon to W1 and mining laser to W3. Went back, and hit much better. Unfortunately, my first targets were T3 and the new targets were T2 and T1, so I don't really know which theory is closer to the mark. Probably neither and it is something entirely different.
I suspect it may be a combination of the two. The "kill zone" for mobs is tier related. The higher the tier, the smaller the kill zone, and the harder they are to hit. Also, for multi-ship weapons, the targeting reticle is keyed to the first weapon in the chain. I have noticed that the bolts/rays/slugs from the different weapons go at different speeds (related to recharge rate maybe?). I have a suspicion that the targeting reticle may be keyed to this. I have not played around with different weapon configurations to test these theories, but I may give it a try tonight.
Just my thoughts.

What I'm saying is, the lead isn't acting accurately. It's missing. When I keep aiming reticle dot-to-dot with the lead, my weapon-fire is traveling ahead of the targeted ship. It's missing.
i understand this. what im saying is i dont use that 'lead' reticle. i use the ship im shooting at, and where the bolts are going. if im to far ahead, pull back till i see them hit the target. tbh i dont even notice the 'lead' reticle anymore.

Cougo, the aiming target should automaticly compensate for that. It should be calculating where, in the time it takes your lasers (which are appearantly slower-than-light, to address a previous post) to cross the distance, the target will be. But it's not. You shouldn't have to manually adjust for distance, because that's what the aiming target is for!
I understand your frustration but... Where is the fun in that? If the game did all the work for you there would be no chalenge, just compinsate for the fact that the reticle is guessing and does not take into account all of the variables. also I find that if you are flying outside of your ships "sweet spot" it makes this worse, try slowing down a bit.
It would be no fun if all the game involved was lineing up to dots.
