I couldnt find a thread on this.... maybe I didnt word the search correctly.

Anyway, for over all performance /effectiveness what is the "best ship" to fly if you are an IMP master pilot? I have aFirespray itsmanuverability "sweet spot"is about 45% of max engine power.I seems like a slug to fly, but I may just be spoiled to my Tie Adv responsivness. I realize its an opinionated question. I expect a variety of responses. Just wanted to see some idea of what folks use and why.

Opressors seem pretty popular ( I have yet to pilot one).

The Opp handles best at slower speeds (don't remember the exact sweet spot though) like the Firespray and B-wing (don't know about the Krayt). Both the Firespray and the Opp are the reverse of the Advanced, so if you love that high speed manuverability, stick with it.

Well, it's pretty simple since you got a firespray already.

If you want ultimate speed and manouverability take the Advanced (with huge lack of mass though).

If you want high mass to put in high end comps you should get used to the Firespray (i did and i'm all good with it i don't miss the Advanced a bit).

There is a very nice ship buyers guide stickied on the SW forum that is also linked in the pilot faq on this forum.

Oppressor is the best all around PvP/PvE ship. The same loadout you use on it to be devistating in PvE will be highly effective in PvP as well. Advanced has a definite PvP advantage over the Oppr, but the extra firepower, shields, and armor the Oppr can give you compensates for this quite nicely. Firespray is a flying barn. The oppressor is like the size of one of the FS's fins, and I think the oppressor is actually slightly smaller than a TIE variant, since it has folded wings. With it's tiny profile and reasonably good handling characteristics (esp if using a high end RE'd engine with high YPR) the only ship I'd consider flying other than the oppressor would be the advanced, but I prefer a guaranteed one hit kill in PvP and tearing thru gunships like butter over the maneuveability advantage.

The max throttle I use in the rare occasions I dust off my Oppressor is 75% throttle maximum. Anything over that, and it becomes progressively more sluggish.

When you dust off your oppressor? What ship are you using that doesnt collect dust? and why?

Figurative expression. I can take down everything I'd ever need to in my Advanced.

Personally, I fly mostly my TIE Advanced, you must already know why heh.

But, I fly an oppressor as well. The "sweet spot" depends more on the engine installed than the hull; though hull mods to bring it down about 8% lower than the same engine in an Adv. -- the difference is, with the mass allowance, you can fit a much better PYR engine in her than you will ever fit in an effective Adv. loadout. My installed engine has PYR's all over 75, and a max (modded) speed of 81.8. Makes for very effective handling at speed, and EO3 gives her a respectable 947 unboosted.

Downsides: Reaction time and inertia take some getting used to... at the right throttle you can actually fly sideways though, which can be a plus.

At middling speeds, especially decelerating, she tends to "yo-yo"... a nudge to the stick will send her careening in that direction, and any attempt to counter sends her way in the other direction.

Advantages: I managed to fit some 2500+ f/r shields w/ 14 recharge in her, over 1200 armor f/r as well, 2 excellent RE'd Cert8 projectiles, and a Microchaff... plus 3 pre-nerf SB2 launchers. She can take some heat in PvE in a heavily outnumbered situation, and she can 1-shot kill any fighter/medium ship with a SB2, carrying 12 at a time... her guns are very impressive, taking 4-6 shots for a Tier 5. Fast enough and agile enough even to deal with npc a-wings.

Wouldn't want to PvP an A-wing with her though, players are waaaay different than NPC's...

1st_ are those player made engines? Ive managed to get a upper 6-'s lower 70's RE'd engine using the pre nerf 92 speed inferno.

No, there's absolutely no way I can make an engine with those PYR stats.

That engine was made by patiently waiting for 72+ on each of the PYRs for Cert 8 engines... and it wasn't the Inferno for top speed either, or it would have a modded speed of 88 or so... which would also bring down the % throttle for maneuvering (not what I was after).

not sure I understand the throttle comment.... you DIDNT want a higher speed w/ 70+ PYR?

Well, I got smug alliance ace yesterday (soloed the vette, yay!), and have since gone inquisition pilot. Thing is, I don't know what's a good imp fighter other than the JSF. The guard intercepter sounds good, but I don't know of any other ships that can compare on any level with the JSF. And I really don't want a heavy TIE. Could any experienced imp pilots out there give me a run down of the better imp ships and how they will do in deepspace or possible PVP?
