Thread: Coming Soon: Col. Breinhar's Post-P24 Revised Space Loot Guide

Yep, I'm moving on up.

Why move from the Eclipse forums to here? Well, the post on the Eclipse forum is kinda...well...blue in certain sections due to my fervor and temperament...and I've noticed readership on the latter pages steadily declining, which means my own galaxy isn't reading it as much anymore (though readership on the first two pages is still phenomenally high) - and those that habitually do are usually regulars in this forum.

Also, the original post is kinda rag-tag. You need to read too much to absorb all the information at once, which is readily visible in the 9000 hit original post...which drops to under 2000 on the second page. People are clicking the links provided, seeing a nine-page thread, and collectively saying "screw this." That's not helping matters.

A lot of things are going to change after P24 goes live - some loot won't really be worth collecting anymore (such as L10 caps and shields, for example, among others), and some will be MORE worth collecting (low-EPS weapons and the like, in prep for a WO3 fix), which'll largely invalidate my first guide.

I intend on cutting-and-pasting the worthwhile parts of the former thread like the potential "What If" WO3 fix case study thread, amongst others. Also, I'll fix certain mistakes that are too far embedded into the thread (like my incorrect initial assumption that WO3 increased drain by a fractional, yet still detrimental amount - which we all know now to not be the case). Not to mention the drain fix tosses a monkey wrench into a lot of previous notions.

Let's just hope the drain fix lasts longer than it did the LAST time drain was fixed back in December 2003......for a grand total of about a week and a half.

This coming thread will be decidedly cleaner than the Eclipse thread, seeing that my original intent was to stop the rookie/oblivious/disc-mad shipwrights on that server from making big mistakes...not only for the advancement of piloting, but oft times monetarily in their own favor for wasting truly exceptional parts.

I might be a little more pleasant about reporting bad REs by shipwrights on Eclipse on this upcoming thread...

...plus I'm going to invite other pilots from other galaxies to vent their OWN frustrations at horrible REs for KSE discs. With a request to maintain decorum, that is.

Using something like (for example) a 74.0 pre-RE L8 engine (of any PYR category) when any shipwright worth their salt *should* know Quantum Ion Drives exist, and the demand for such an engine would be great REGARDLESS of the server...yet wastes it anyway in the pursuit of KSE discs...is tantamount to taking a baseball bat to a Ming China shop.

I might not be able to STOP anyone from foolishly and oft times FUTILELY wasting stellar loot, but my screenshots have shown a FEW shipwrights the error of their ways on Eclipse, and I'm gathering it'll work on other galaxies as well. And that's worth pissing a few people off, I'm sorry if you don't concur, Shai.

The starship market is tenuous enough - it's time shipwrights start regarding loot as they do their own crafted products - as a valued and saleable commodity - not a means to an end. Because if you don't have a working or basic understanding knowledge of how loot works, you're only doing half your profession.

Personally, I'd never patronize a shipwright for chassis OR parts that REed like he or she had no clue what stats meant.....or rightly cared, either.

This is great news.

Your thread was a big impetus behind the creation of spaceLoot.com, so if there's any custom data I can provide to support your work, please let me know.

That reminds me of the engine I saw the other day while looking for useful engines to RE to a post-nerf L6 while I wait for the BEST parts I can get. It had wonderful PYR, but the speed ... whoever RE'd it didn't use the L6 reward, clearly enough.

SO am I to understand that, according to you, I should grind out Shipwright (5.6million resources to do .. make a note) when the only service it provides is to RE loot components without regard for the pinnacle goal of being able to make a Firespray?

Do you have any appreciation to the storage capacity required to collect loot components to RE?

Do you understand the frustration invovled in collecting the highest quality resources to make the best quality parts?

I joined this game because shipwright sounded, and still is, interesting.

What point is there to Shipwright if all you ever do is build Chassis, and RE components?

Why do I want to RE when I cannot build better? (Thanks for this SOE ... goons!!)

I'm in this game for me and my own enjoyment, not yours.

You wanna whine about bad REs, grind out Shipwright and do it yourself.

Good to hear. I read all those posts on your Eclipse forum and found it informative and extremely entertaining. Good Luck, and I'll stay tuned.

that thread has saved me countless headaches explaining things to noobs as well as being extremely informative for me when i began collecting things other than level 10 guns. looking forward to the revised edition. you know, if it's going to be a while in the works, you might want to consider doing the whole thing with a fixed wo3 in mind. just you know... in case they decide to drop a bomb on us sometime...

just in case.

I hope this means you'll be keeping condescending comments about those who wish to use their space loot differently than you do out of the guide. That would be good.

YesI understand the grind of Shipwright. I have done the grind for Weaponsmith and Shipwright. Have you?

I have harvested resources for years. Have you?

I have 5 houses and 2 vendors for storage of parts. Do you?

The Firespray may be the "pinnacle" to you but to myself and many others it is just a ordinary ship that takes way too many resources and time to aquire.

I don't whine about how others spend their time and resources. But I do find it idiotic to do an RE for a Firespray disk and waste a great or even a legendary part because you either don't know or don't care.

No one can "tell" you how to play this game. We can explain, persuade, cajole and plead with you not to waste great parts that can be used by others if you don't want them. But in the end you can be as stupid and selfish as you want.

Elite components won't fit in my fighters. Don't want those L10 components? Give them to ME.

Anyone see the conflict between the previousline and this one? hehehe

Speaking of which, have you noticed an L8 gun on vendor search that has 23.Xk mass, and an Incom Tri-Cannon/Borstel Disruptor OBVIOUSLY wasn't part of it? Man, I wanted to cry.

Okay, a few things:

1) I know shipwright takes a lot of resources to grind, I'm grinding it myself.

2) No, I'm not saying you have to store ALL your loot, merely the stuff that isn't worth wasting, which accounts for maybe 5% of all loot you come across (and that's being generous). The purpose of the Eclipse thread was to give shipwrights (albeit those on my own server) a benchmark to look at and go "gee, maybe I shouldn't RE this 70.0 yaw pre-RE L6 engine...looks like this 'Jotun' guy would pay a ton for the un-REed part alone. With the money I got from him, I could buy a POS 6k L6 off the bazaar or vendor search and still be up like 2.5 mill."

2a) With said PROFIT from selling said part, you could buy even more loot from players, thereby AMPLIFYING your ability to RE for discs and also increasing your chances that a player will drop YET ANOTHER exceptional part off that you can then turn around and SELL AGAIN to increase your coffers.

3) Yes, I've been a crafter before, and I probably won't get MY shipwright into heavy crafting until decent-enough resources respawn on Eclipse, since I don't feel like buying more. So yes, I know what a pain in the ass it is to collect resources.

4) Never did I say that a shipwright should RE components instead of MAKE components. No one would be able to fly if that were the case. I'm merely suggesting you store the best ones you come across, buy from players, or loot yourself, and either wait to RE them into a saleable part which very well might fetch EVEN MORE than a potential Firespray sale.

5) I don't think discs are that hard to get. I'm a Novice Shipwright, and I've barely gone through three crates of CATs, REing *only* RE1 parts (again, because I'm stuck at NSW until my twelve harvesters suck all the ore out of the ground that they can) from my collection runs, and I've looted six discs (1, 2, 4, 5, and two 6s), and that's WITH destroying the tool on the last charge. I'm getting a disc pretty much every other night.

6) I don't know where this animosity is coming from - I'm TRYING to show you there's a more lucrative market for EXCEPTIONAL loot than there is for Firesprays. A select few of you seem to be taking this as a personal affront that somehow I'm trying to be your damned daddies (hence Shai's 'condescending' remark). No, I'm merely trying to open a new door to your business that a lot of you seem to be neglecting or spurning.

Yeah, I posted it on the thread on page 9.

That annoyed me, since I'd sent a /tell to the shipwright back when I saw the UN-REed part on the bazaar, asking her (it's a her) what she wanted for it.

When she said it wasn't for sale, I automatically assumed "oh, she's saving it for a personal Borstel/Tri-cannon RE." I could respect that.

But then when I saw the abomination it'd been put into, THAT'S what prompted me to take my crusade to the Shipwright forums and tick off (though not intentionally) ShaiLyn and others.

...I've since found much better than 23,xxx mass, though.
