So last night I was running a particularly BORING Escort missing for Tier 4 Smuggler's Alliance that took me from Dantooine to the Endor system. At SOME point during the mission (I'm actually not sure exactly when as I found this afterwards when sorting loot).. I got:
KUAT SYSTEMS RCT-Z REACTOR
Armor: 747
Hitpoints: 747
Mass: 30,468
Reactor Output: 43,680
Grade-7 , RE-7
My jaw hit the FLOOR. I went back and checked the stats on that thing ATLEAST three times. I know that I've heard other people talk about getting reactors like these but.. is it really purely random in terms of drop rate? Is there ANY kind of pattern to it? (I was fighting Valarian Kimogila gunships my whole mission, except for 1 stint where I had to drop some Tier 5's that wandered into mission path).
Anyone have ideas?

i looted one off a tier 4 black sun with the uber generation stat of 0, a guildmate looted one off of a tier 4 chiss in kash space (i think anyway) with 30k gen except both of ours were level 8/RE 8
appears to be a random loot like most other parts.

Now... to find a Grade-7 super light mass reactor that I can RE this thing with!

Yup, you can get that down to 15k or less pretty easily.
The only consistency in these reactors are the name. That one, and one or two L8 can pop big. I watch for Big L7, and also I watch my L3s since some of them can drop up near 15k and be REd to mass around 2k. It's about the only odd leveled loot I care about, apart from guns.

hehe.. got my first 0.0 RCT-Z last night 
best i've gotten otherwise have been 22k and 26k... neither re'd yet though.. haven't really tried cause i just tossed em in POB ships

I think I'm DEFINITELY saving this gem for my upcoming YT-1300 (I hope to hit master in the next few nights). I think I'm going to start watching my L7 & L8 reactors a HECK of a lot more closely now. And regarding other stuff, I had an L8 Borstel Disruptor drop for me a few nights ago... REAL nice gun there... too bad it's 36k mass heh. That's gonna HAVE to go on my Rihkxyrk or Krayt.

That's not a drop, it's one of your tier4 reward items.

That's a reward item? Oh.. feel a bit silly now. It mysteriously showed up in inventory after I finished a mission and had already sorted out my loot.

Heh, you're not a moron, Zymm
I can't remember which one it is offhand, but it's one of the tier 4 mission rewards - look for posts by Washell, his sig has a link to all of the rewards, and when you get them. I believe it's also in the FAQ.
Even though it's kind of backwards, after a space run, I always go to my house first, and drop off all of the RE-worthy and other notable items, then go back and hit the chassis dealer with what's left. Reason being, I almost handed the chassis dealer my Borstel once, and that would have made me a moron...

I still haven't found any of those crazy reactors. Would be kind of nice if they ever fix WO3 for a heavy fighter or POB ship.
EDIT: Yeah, you certainly aren't a moron. I did pilot so long ago I don't even know if I sold my rewards or not
