A few weeks ago I helped a few friends get their RGI's. At the time I wasnt that far into it and figured I would get around to doing my own sooner or later. Well last night I tried to do this mission, capture of the vette went smooth and the first gunboat spawns no problem. Then 2 more gun boats show up and destroy the Corvette is a single pass. Figuring I must have borked something up or flown threw someone elses mission I try again with the same results. When I did this a few weeks ago I only remember 2 gunboats and iirc the vette pretty much solo'd them. Now it gets hit only a few times from full health and its gone. Did this change recently or was I just THAT drunk when I did it the first time? Also along these same lines seems to me Im taking more damage from the capitol ships then I use to, anyone able to confirm or deny that observation?Message Edited by JofiTheSmuggler on 08-08-2005 01:39 PM

Its pretty much random lol, mine died like 5 times in a row before i finally finished it (solo) I did mine less than a week after ROTW came out
So are you saying its random, the number of gunboats you get?
its slightly random, but you can put the odds in your favor by not destroying any of the vettes guns. if all the guns are fried, then the gunboats will be targeting the reactor by default, and it only takes a couple missiles for them to destroy it. if the guns are all still there, then the enemys will more than likely hit those first, but sometimes they target the reactor.
also wait untilthe vette isat the point closest to the overseerbase beforedisabling it, that way you wont have to fight as many waves.

ok, if you didn't use Bstrike, did you strip all the guns off the corvette?
Yes..apparently that was the mistake?
The guns aren't meant to be a true defense, they are an AI timekiller. Just taking out gun5, the shields, and the engine means more targets for the the AI to plink off before it gets to critical ones.
If you strip the guns, a lot of people report similar results. Even though the guns regenerate, they are no longer in the queue for the AI to destroy, thus it goes right after the reactor and bridge.
That's my hypothesis based on you and the other people with this problem, and my experiences on the run.
I will do it your way and report back. If in deed the regenerated guns are not in que for the gunboats to kill that would explain the single pass kill they get on it.
