I don't remember ever getting any medal, as far as I know its just the helmet and jacket(and reward comps).
But I'm freelance so maybe factioned pilots do get one, I dunno.

no i know you didnt used to get a medal.
its something new they added... or so the rumor goes
has anyone else gotten one?

I received a medal for my rebel ace (havoc) when I visited the admiral who gave me my medal for destroying the vette or something I'd done.
This was on TC3-EP3 though, I ahven't tried it on the live servers. I posted something about this a while back but haven't tried it since CU. I'll give it a shot tonight and see if I get the medal here as well.

Yeap, I got about half a dozen of them on Test Center.... Haven't tried yet on Live.

the reason you cant get them is because its part of the expansion. so try after the expansion. the reason you can get them on tc is because it has the expansion in it but only beta gets to play, but everything outside the new world is active. henc the reason someone gave me cybernetics and i could install then an so.

this is on live though now, the Admiral in theed atleast, tells you that you have been awarded a medal. but nothing in your inventory, just the message from the Admiral.

the cu is live but parts of expansion are live but others are not and the text is there but not the actual medals. just go to space the astroids are there but you can not mine same thing with medals. you will need to wait for expansion.

Hmm. I was able to get the medal from the Imperial admiral today in live. After reading this I was thinking maybe it was because I already had the beta files, but a Rebel I know isn't in the beta and was able to get his. They're wearable, too. Pretty neat little addition.
What squads are those of you who can't get them with? Are you still the same pilot faction as the admiral you're trying to receive them from? Can you provide any other details or think of any possible reasons why you wouldn't be receiving the medals?

Well, I'm the Rebel Tomo mentioned...does it make a difference that I preordered RotW on Digital Download?
