For those that do it what load out do you put in yours?

Was thinking 1 mining laser, 1 tractor beam and 1 normal gun for protection.

Also i havent yet used a tractor beam do you use it to just lock onto a chunk and it gets dragged in?

That's a lot of peoples favourite mining load-out. Tractor Beams bring the small chunks into your hold for double the quantity. I think its 20 units of Asteroid if you shoot it with a mining laser, 40 units if you suck it up.

Thats pretty much how I have my Krayt loaded out. It works out great, the only downside is that you will probably spend more time flying between the asteroid and landing station.

I use a level 3 mining laser and tractor beam in my Oppressor. It's enough to take out most tier 1 and 2 ships. Put a decent engine in it and you should be able to out run most Mining Bandits. Also makes the long trips from the station to the asteroid quicker too.

I use an X-wing for mining. Twin mark III mining lasers on the tips, tractor beam on the centerline. Generally I avoid engaging bandits in combat, but if I have no choice, Mark IIIs that are overloaded are good enough to deal with just about anything. It won't be as quick for combat as regular weapons, but they'll get the job done. I generally avoid the asteroid bandits unless they're really chewing on me.

Yeah, I really don't use a regular weapon in my X. If you cant kill the AI with 2 (I use 3) Class III Mining Lasers, you're doing something wrong. Plus, at 6K mass apiece, leaves plenty of room for armor, a 1.7K hold, good shields, engine, etc...

I only engage the bandits if they're really putting a hurt on. If you ignore them, you'll be done mining that asteroid and heading back to the station before you WOULD have destroyed them. Just my two cents though...

If you are ace, then try it in a B-wing if you are open to that suggestion.

2xclass III mining laser

1x normal combat laser

1x tractor beam

It is a very nice loadout for mining.

I know you are asking about x-wing, but I thought I'd throw this suggestion out there anyway.

hmm well i loaded in level 3 mining lasers in the tips and tried putting a tractor beam in the center mount but it wont fire.

Also i use a 4 button mouse how do i set it up to have groups 1 and 2 fire with one button and group 3 to fire from another button? Right now it just alternates groups with one mouse button.

I use a RE'd QID for speed and maneuverability, a nice level 7 crafted shield, level 6 RE'd cap, two Mark III mining lasers and a crafted tractor beam, and a Mark III concussion launcher just in case. It works nicely for me.

unless tractor is on same group as a gun it wont fire with fire button, i thaught mine was broken at first aswell

you need map a tractor toggle button on keyboard or mouse

if dont mind using keyboard then just hit number key for its group

ie. 1 and 2 is guns and tractor on 3 then 3key will toggle tractor

i have a logitec ps2 style controller and tractor is automaticaly toggled by L2

Have two Mark III mining lasers and a normal gun in my Advanced X.. Got sick of the tractor beam as it requires you to stay on the targetted chunk for some time. With the 2 mining lasers I fill my 1750 cargo hold in less than 10 minutes, which is good enough for me. And I still can waste the occasional bandit or imperial pilot in 1-3 shots.

I use 2 mark III mining lasers (set on the s-foils, for looks) and a "CRAFTED" tractor beam on the inner mount. for those of you that don't know, crafted tractor beams are bugged and as a result they fire from all weapon points. this allows me to fire and run tractorbeams out of the same slot at the same time.

i don't really need a normal weapon as the mining lasers do enough damge (over time) to take out the bandits. even armed with only that, Kessel is no problem for me
