I'm using a mouse and have hard time dogfighting in 1st person view but find it a lot easier while in 3rd person view. Do you, joystick users find it easier to fly in 1st or 3rd person view?
I'm planning to buy a new Joystick, mine was a microsoft force feedback2 but died
I find the mouse to be very precise to aim at enemy ships, not sure if a joystick would do anything better than a mouse.

Let me rephrase it, what i said is not clear at all
JTL, is the first online sim i'm able to dogfight while in 3rd person view. But, since my joystick died i can only use the mouse and i find it very hard to control my ship somehow while in the cockpit view using the mouse.
So the question is, if you are using a joystick do you get this feeling too and find it easier to dogfight while in the 3rd person view?

I use a joystick and dogfight in 1st person with cockpit view on. (although sometimes ill turn the cockpit frame off, but not very often)
3rd person just doesnt feel right to me.

I've personally always used a mouse in first person view. I guess it comes from growing up on the wing commander games and using a mouse with those. I also use a trackball mouse, so for me it makes it a bit easier to change directions, since i can just spin the ball in a direction really quickly.

I haven't done any PvP, but I'm flying in 1st person with the cockpit frame off. Once I found how to turn that off, 1st beat out 3rd since the ship isn't in the way. I could see 3rd being useful to see if you start taking fire and gauge the direction, though.

I tried 3rd person and just couldn't get the hang of it. 1st person with the cockpit off most of the time just "feels" a lot more realistic and I definitely fly better.

I always dogfight in first person with cockpit frame off. I just can't seem to shoot as well at small quick targets in third person. I use third person when killing gunboats, Corvettes, or Star Destroyers. I like to be able to see exactly where my ship is and where the fire is coming from.
I'm still using my Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro USB joystick. It squeaks a bit, but seems to work great.

joystick. rudder first person. 3rd person feels strange and only helps if you have the field of view on high and are trying to dodge stuff(hard to do)

First person. Anything else is anathema to me. At least in first person I can mentally fool myself into thinking JTL isn't as "arcadey" as it is.

3rd person view allows me view more of the space around my ship and allows me to view the attitude changes a target is making. I only use 3rd person when flying a POB ship.
1st person view allows me to judge intertia effects better when manouvering. Makes for finer piloting control adjustments.
