Thread: Anyone else have a love/hate thing for SW's?
How i love good parts...
How i hate the money grubbing prices
On the same note....
How i love a SW with a sense of old world craftsmanship who does quality work at fair prices, and stands behind their products.
How i hate having to sift through the literal tide of wannabes that are trying to sell underpar crap at assinine prices.
Guaranteed a 1 star post by every SW who lurks here!
edit: truth mixed with sarchasm always make for an intresting thread

Anyone complaining about shipwright greed should take a long hard look at what they are complaining about. If you are complaining about prices of crafted components, perhaps you should peruse the requirements for building the ships that you complain about being so overpriced.
Mastering shipwright, IE constructing roughly 40-50 ships, cost me more money than many players will ever see. I don't craft for profit anymore because I literally never want to see another stack of steel in my life. Ever. Around 50 THOUSAND units of steel for a Tie Advanced. What's that at 3CPU? Keep in mind3CPU isa laughable price to assume you will find even mediocre steel at. I'm sure many many shipwrights would gladly build you a ship if you provided your own resources. Before complaining maybe you should post how much that really costs.
That being said, if players are complaining about shipwrights being greedy for wanting to remove the ease of flying in space from casual gamers by proposing a reinstitution of decay or superiority of all crafted components over looted components you get 5 stars from me. There are a plethora of ways to give SW's renewablebusiness without nerfing other players fun. IMO though, if players keep insulting shipwrights for trying to make a smidgeon of profit they will keep asking for inane things like decay and loot nerfing. Keep that in mind.
For real, well said.I get sick of these "Look at those Greedy Bastages" threads. if any proffession has a right to charge alot its Shipwright. Take a look at the resource prices lately, multiply that by the thousands of units per ship or component. Not to mention with the components requires new special materials. Factor in how much material they basically ground into dust to progress to master. Granted the meathod they use is entirely up to each shipwright. But when getting master requires 2mil xp just for the master box, not counting all those previous to it, then i think some of their prices are justified.
Here is a tidbit of helpfull advice to those people who think they overcharge. Find out how much resources go into the ship you want, go out and perchase those minerals. Take them to a shipwright and have him make the thing from your minerals. I bet after 2 times of doing that the hassle of finding your own minerals will change your mind. If all else fails grind your greedy arse up the shipwright tree and make your own stuff...oh wait then you couldnt be uber dood combat defense stacker god.

To make the point hit home a bit more.....
Average price for a set ofgood PvPComposite Armor : 450k (3,000 resources x 150cpu)
Average price for a 101k mass X-wing chasisto PvPin space: 300k (60,000 resources x 5cpu)
If a shipwright charged Armorsmith prices an X-wing chasis should be 9 Million credits EACH.
An armorsmith can also make unlimited amounts of armor in a factory - while he sleeps. EVERY item a shipwright sells (except comsumables) has to be hand crafted ONE AT A TIME.
Now who's greedy?
i saw this in the thread that someone posted this is stupid imo yes it makes since But another question just popes out that one why are they even charging 150cpu for the armor. If it is possible to charge 5cpu for a ship then why charge 150. To me this shows how messed up the economy really is.
I am not knock the sw businees or any artisan of any type but this to me just proves that some people are greedy. Even when they try to pass off looted stuff for re'd stuff. When i can buy a lotted lvl 3 reactor with a 12 to 13,000 energy rate for 3,000 to 100,000 that is a problem. I dont mind spending the money but i dont like being take advantage of.

edit:
oh and shipwrights reading this, don't automatically assume all pilots think this way and further a pilot v shipwright dicotomy. people complain about prices because they do not knowthe insane amount of resources that gointo making a ship. it's not because they think you should be doing it for free and keep in mind you won't see posts or emails from people who think the prices are ok. it doesn't work that way, there are many players who understand.

What sparked the post I made in SW about greed was a person claiming in they were a member of another crafting profession and only charged 3 cpu for their products. That person never responded back when confronted with the costs of items at 3 cpu to say what profession they were. But the only one profession whoses prices are generally anywhere near 3 cpu is Architect.
It's not 'greed' in most cases of a Shipwright's prices. The volume of resources automatically push the cost of making an item through the roof for anyone without:
- Multiple accounts
- Lot swaps
- Extensive support from a PA
The amount of resources required to make a single pack of Proton III torpedos is 1000 Steel and 250 High Grade Polymetric Radioactive. 15 packs of Proton III Torpedos will eat the resources of a single heavy harvester is capable of producing daily on an 80% concentration of steel. When making 15 consumables will require the daily output of the best harvester in the game, buying resources is the only option for many shipwrights. An option that incurs a cost to have a Shipwright business. So 'greed' isn't the only motivator behind prices.
And honestly, if a person doesn't like 1 shipwright's prices complaining about it is the least effective option there is. I can almost guarantee someone on that person's server has a lower price. Usually contacting a Shipwright found via the profession search will generate someone willing to beat the price.

Actually, it's not possible for many shipwrights to charge 5 cpu. See above for why. Only recently have I been able to find any quantities of steel or low grade ore for under 5 cpu. And we're talking about grind quality here, not high quality.
And the economy isn't really messed up when a casual player at tier 4 can generate about 150k by doing 1 hours worth of a duty mission. My X-Wing is fitted with components usuable by Tier 4. And a Tier 4 duty mission generates about 300k in wave rewards, credit chips and components in a 2 hour period. With that type of income easily availible, the economy can support a suit of composite for 400k.

1.) Im not paying your way to master SW. I dont care how much you put into mastering a profession, that is NOT my problem. My problem is the part or ship in question that i want to purchase, not how much you want to make up for whatever it is you lost in grinding skill boxes. Take your problems out on my credits in bank and we don't do buisness, plain and simple.
2.) Everyone knows chasis/parts cost resources. But theres a big difference between
2A.) the SW who says, 750K for a 235K mass ship and 1 mill for a 240K mass ship
and
2B.) the SW who says, all ships , 5 CPU, no chassis is undermassed. 240K ship for 760K. thats fair in my book.
The problem with SW's in general is theres some good ones, and then theres a whole lot of bad ones that give the profession a bad name, and its all to easy to paint the whole profession with a big wide brush.
Final thought:
If your running a shop, a buisness, theres an old saying, "the customer is always right". Not every pilot is going to kiss your feet and beg you to make them something. Its a free and compedative market, and if i feel your trying to stiff me, ill take my buisness elswhere. Word of mouth goes a long way, and when other pilots ask me for " a good SW", i have datapad with a few waypoints that i email them. Im pretty sure they do the same.
