Thread: How to stop Capital Ships going the way of the JSF

What with the release of Capital ships on the horizon, many posts have srpung up about it,a lot of which include people's worries about every man and his dog having one of these behemoths.

Well, I have an idea (which may have been stated before) on how to limit the propogation of Capital ships, and that is to simply make the Space Commander profession (which is going to be a necessity, I feel) use up skill points like any other Elite profession.

Although some people might complain that Pilot dosen't use skill points, so why should Commander? I think that this would make some people think twice about giving up their ground professions to get a space profession.

There will likely be many criticisms of this idea, but I think that this is the best way to allow an open use of capital ships (i.e. not having to do a huge quest for one, which disallows us from getting any more, if for instance someone wants 2 vettes, one for fighting, one for decorating).

Dude, at this point, if everyone in the game launched into space with a capitol ship, rather than grouse about their choice of a flying platform, I'd cheer due to the renewed activity in space.

I'm starting to care less about the stats of the JSF than the fact that 99% of them RUN when I zone into DS. In a FIRESPRAY no less. /sigh

I think it would be awesome to have huge fleet blattles, but have at least a full group to man a ship in order for it to be fully operational.

Huge fleet battles would be fun, yes, but I beleive a full crew for a Vette would be ATLEAST 20, and we'd somehow have to work around our eight group member limit. Maybe Space Commander would allow the person w/ Space Commander as a prof. to start larger groups, or crews. I say screw Vettes and just let us use Gunboats. Make them rewards for near-DWB level dungeons.

If everyone got them it would turn into a race. Who can run the fastest from the pilot chair to the right turrets

No, they won't SIT there, they'll be flying around...I guess... We really need small(ish) player-controlled space stations. It'd be awesome not to have to land for days on end. You'd just dock your ship at the station, and logg off on your bunk! Deticated pilots would never have to land. You could have supply shuttles come up with crates of what you needed. These could be places in, say, DS and Kessel, and player capital ships would have to capture them. That or there could be one Imperial station and one Rebel station at opposite ends in both Kessel and DS, now THAT would be cool!

How to stop Cap Ships from becoming the new JSF?

Simple - make the blueprint cost 500 million Prestige points plus special parts harvested from HARD (re: Cyssc-level and beyond) space-based quests. Cake for a devoted pilot (albeit a cake that'd take quite a while to bake), seemingly unsurpassable/impossible for those who constantly ask for help (heretofore known as the 'doitformes').

Ideally, I'd like to see maybe three people from each server from each "side" build up enough "rep" to own their faction's "large" capship (re: not anything stupid like an MC-80 or ISD-II), but I know even THAT would be a strain on the server.

"Oh, you've got a Jedi? How nice for you. I've got a 900m-long capital ship that's the only one of its kind on the server. How many Jedi are there playing now, hmm...hmmmmmmmm?"

well one thing is for certain, we need some kind of attraction to space. As of now, all it is is a place to hang out in our ships or grind pilot profs. What we need is like a "base" system. It would be part of the GCW counts (you know, to see who runs what planet) and players can trade in FP to call in some kind of faction ship (Mon Cal, Star Destroyer, etc.) and it would sit there until the enemy faction came and destroyed it. Same-faction players could dock with it and explore the interior, even man the turrets in defence. However, the ship will not be able to be piloted by anyone. Bases on land are stationary, and so should the ships. They could be vulnerable at certain times just like bases. in fact, just think of them as "space bases." players would be more compelled to come up and fight in space if these ships were tied to the GCW count.

this IMHO would be a better alternative than just allowing players to have their own corvettes, etc.
