Thread: Which ship is better: Y-wing, or a customied Z-95?

I have just qualified for my first training slot as a Rebel pilot. I hope you can help me choose. If I pick Basic Starfighter, then I would be able to fly a Y-wing. If I choose Equipment A, then I would be able to add level 2 & 3 equipment to my own Z-95 chassis. I have already purchased my own Z-95 which I use now instead of my starter ship. So my question is, which ship would be better? A Y-wing, or a tricked out Z-95? What are the pros / cons of each ship's engines, weapons, shields, etc.?

thanks!

you get a free box from your trainer after completing the novice missions, which means you'll be able to train 1100 pilot, not just 1000 or 0100. I suggest getting the Y-wing if you have level 3 components that you want to install. it isn't really worth your time to try to fit components into a Z-95 over novice level cert @ 12k mass.

I am not a Rebel, but as far as stats go, you will not be able to fit much at all into the Z-95. The Y-Wing has so much mass it makes the Freelance Kimogilla look useless. I'd go with Y-wing so you can actually equip higher level equipment.

Z95. By far. EoS. One choice. Cert 2/3 Components win. Fatality.

Of course the y-wing. It has 150k mass, z-95 has 20k mass.... You have to jump through hoops to fit into 20k mass. With a y-wing you can pack it full of awesome components.

depends on the engine you've managed to loot. I used a well built Z95 for a long time before switching to the Y-wing because I couldn't find a good engine. Once you get a good engine though, the Y-wing is a much better choice.

I used a Z-95 for all of both tiers 1 and 2, myself. The Y-Wing's way too slow for my tastes.

It really depends on your play style. Mass is not the end-all-be-all of JtL. Many people will fall into that trap. A tricked out z95 can do wonders in the hands of the right pilot, and a Y-wing can be a space coffin in the hands of the wrong pilot.

My suggestion is to try both out, and see which you prefer and which suits your style.

well if you dont have parts that are too great go with a z95... waste of money to put lvl 1 parts on a ywing

Also keep in mind that the heavy ships like the Y-Wing don't maneuver very well at high speeds. You'll get the best turning out of them at about half throttle. If you keep that in mind they fly pretty well.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Most of the ships maneuver well at lower speeds.

Y-wings should be running at most 75% in a dogfight. I find a little over 50% gives me a really fast turning radius and if you need to chase, that is what boosters are for.

Needless to say, you can load up y-wings with the biggest armour and shields. It is an absolute tank, so taking a few hits means nothing.

we are talking a z-95 people. This is not like a X-Wing vs Y-Wing... The Z-95 is the base line ship. The only reason you would buy one is to have hyperspace at low levels. If you want to change to a lower mass better ship, go for the A-Wing or X-Wing, ect.. Thats when the comparison begins.
