i did Dr. shinss yacht mission solo last night. the trick is to take out the engines first or reactor. when you get so many disabled ships the waves stop untill after awhile the disabled ship disappear. then the next wave comes. don't leave the yavin system when the transmission is done you can warp to another part of the yavin system. there are five parts to this quest the last part is in the dathomir system.

I wish I could get that far, I'm 1 2 1 1 in pilot and I'm with the imperial inquisition, I've been doing the same mission for over 24 hours now and I still can't beat it. I can take out all the X and Y wings no problem but the ship I am supposed to capture (by taking out it's engines) eats through my shields in seconds and NEVER misses, the mission is impossible, looks like I will have to get a friend to help me just to beat it.

This mission is pretty early and is easy after someone gave me a tip when I had a similiar mission in Beta.

My mission was for Storm Squadron (Empire, Bestine), with a very, very similiar situation like yours. I was supposed to get to a Nym YT-1300, disable it for capture and to rescue an Imperial agent from there. It had X-Wing escorts which I was supposed to destroy (they were easy).

The trick was this: The YT-1300 in this mission (or Lambda shuttle in your case) strictly flies a flight plan/waypoints. It does not maneuver other than changing to a new waypoint. Also, the defenses only work on the UPPER HALF of the YT-1300 / Lambda Shuttle. What you need to do is, approach the target from BELOW, target the engines, and blast away. While you're doing this, if you're getting too close or starting to get to a horizontal level with the target, turn around to set yourself up with another attack run from the ventral side (below). Ions make the work much quicker.

There's another mission for Storm Squadron that I remember from Beta: Destroying the Kimogilia's Claw, another YT-1300. The big problem is that thing "rotates" and the guns can face you regardless of what angle you're using. There is another brutal trick to this, although you will still be hurting at the end:

- Equip Ions and a Space Bomb Launcher (3 max, IIRC).

- I bypassed the Fighter Escorts todeal with them later. Once you attack the escorts, the Kimo's Claw will start blasting you to good effect.

- I approached the target from below, slowly, and acquiring my Space Bomb lock. Once I get the lock and I'm at CLOSE RANGE, release the bomb and start blasting away with your Ions, aiming for the reactor first! Whatever you do, STAY CLOSE AND DO NOT MOVE AWAY FROM THE YT-1300. KEEP BLASTING AND RELEASING BOMBS! DO NOT FACE AWAY FOR ANOTHER RUN, JUST KEEP BLASTING!

What this does is this: The Kimogilia's Claw will rotate to move away the shield being attacked (top/bottom). Keep hitting it from the same direction forces it to rotate continuously to protect the attacked shield. Also, remember this: The YT-1300 ony has a turret at the TOP SIDE. So, if the ship constantly rotates, it can only attack you 1/2 the time possible!

By the end of killing off the Kimogilia's Claw, I was really hurting. My shields were down, my hull was 3/4 destroyed on the front armor. Engines were damaged. Space Bombs were all used. Thankfully my Capacitors and Ions still worked. With a little bit of fancy, limped flying, I took out the remaining Nym fighter escorts.

Good luck, Pilot, and serve the Emperor well!

Yes...I transmitted the signal already...and I gave the information to the other shuttle. This is where all of those waves I was talking about come...

So, you're saying that I can just jump to another part of the system...and go one from there? Interesting..

I spent all day Saturday doing the 1st tier 3 mission from Yavin. Let me tell you it was really tough. I'm a veteran of all of the older X-Wing flight sims and found this mission to remind me of the toughest in any of those games. I too had the CTD problem, tho I did find a resolution to it. Reduce your resolution. I can run the ground game and had been running JTL at 1280x1024, but found after 4 hours of that mission that there were graphic glitches causing me to crash. Reduced the resolution and it took me just 3 more tries at the mission to get past it. The biggest trick I've found is to let the fighters attack the transports and pick one off of the group at a time. The freighters and such you're tasked to escort take a ton of damage and can survive for a long time, quite different then my own fighter. Hope that helps anyone stuck on the mission. BTW, I did it solo.

I'm now having a problem on the next mission (to get 3322, wish I had gone 2322 first) I can get through the first three steps fine, but when protecting the quad of Interceptors I get waxed very quickly by the transport with the turret. Hoping to get some friends togather for the mission tonight so I can get through it.

If you keep behind it at approx 525m you can hit it without it shooting back...just adjust your sped s it matches target and try and find the right distance

I just finished Tier 3. Im in the inquisition squad and it was easy so far. I was able to solo all but Tier 3 Mission 2(had 2 Guildies as wingmen there). Even the last Mission where you have to kill the Rebel Gunboat wasa JOKE. I just sent a Bomber Strike in and watched it kill the Gunboat. The Boat didnt even kill one of the Bombers and i just stayed out of its turret range while killing his Wingmen.

Most of my Guildies took Tatooine as imperial pilot start and they said their missions were MUCH harder. So much to balance...

Yep....I was a Storm Squad pilot and droped it after becoming 2-2-2-2.....and went to Inquisiton Squad and got to 3-3-3-2 in no time at all......the bad part was when I droped Storm squad I had to start over at 0-0-0-0. The Storm squad missions are way to long in my opinion......that first tier 3 escort mission is complete BS.....I like the challenge factor that is involved, but the 2 hours that it takes to get through is BS.....so far the longest mission for Inquistion squad has been about 45 min, and they all can be done solo with ease......the most that was thrown at me so far was 5 tier 3A-wings and 5 tier 3 X-wings at once (Capture the Doctor mission) which was easy to take out. A-wings are fast, but cant take much of a beating....easy kills in my opinion.......The trick with tier 3 and higher ships is to kill or disable for target FAST......if your taking more than 10 seconds to take out a target switch to another one, hammer on it for a few seconds, switch to another one.....dont chase for to long.....if you focus to much time on one target the rest group up on you andbeatyou down fast.

Im currently 3333 Imp Pilot of the Imperial Inqusition, my friend is 4333 of the Storm Squadron (he grinds a bit more than me ).

we did tier 3 by doing each others missions in turn, mine then his, then mine etc etc. It was tough, and we died a few times to many, but we got there eventually (usally after a practise attempt and upgrading to newest skills, a new mission would become doable).

I think the missions are great tbh.

Oh no! you cant solo everything, well, your not supposed to be able to take on the Entire Alliance/Empire yourself, or you'd be the Emporer or Skywalker. This isnt a flame as I know not everyone can find groups or guilds to help them, but if your in a fairly active guild you should be able to at some point, or if you look for someone in the same situation as yourself then you should be able to, just dont expect to first time

I'm on black epsilon tier 3 mission 2. The first hour and 40 minutes or so of the mission I can solo. Then the next (hopefully last) bit is 8 tier 4 nyms guys, attacking 4 tier 4 hutt guys, and you have to kill the 8 tier four nyms without killing the hutts.

I can't ask anyone to help on this mission because there is no way I would ask someone to just follow me around blowing yard trash up for an hour and a bit so they can help me with a couple of things. Some of the missions need to be split. If a mission needs a group there should be content for a group for the whole of the mission.

Well...lol...I can definitely see that it's possible. I suppose that I'll have to find someone in the same situation. It was quite discouraging, however, to realize that I couldn't solo it.

The thing is, no one in my guild is at the point I am, so asking them to come along would be suicide..

STORM SQUADRON MISSIONS

I think most of you are missing the point totally here. STORM SQUADRON teir 3 mission (when you are imp pilot 2 2 2 2) that you get to escort a engineering ship in endor is pure BS. It is a 5 part mission on the first part where you were sent to escort the ship I counted at least 7 waves of 6 ships each all tier 3 x-wings y-wings and z-95's. Ok so this mission aint too bad all by itself. It takes about 20-30 minutes to complete the first part. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!

After that part is complete and it even says the mission was a success, you get a distress signal saying that another shuttle has been taken by the rebels and you must go disable it. HAPPY JOY! This shuttle is protected by a-wings and b-wings. I can disable it all fine and dandy but it sent 3 waves of 6 fighters each mostly a-wings all tier 3 (thaqt was as far as I got b4 I died). And this is just part 2 of a 5 part mission?!?!?!?! All the freaking captain asks you to do is escort the original shuttle but all this other crap has to be done to pass the whole freaking thing and if you die you gota start all over again.

Now I know some of you gonna say oh its easy I did it solo yada yada, and others will say well you gota group. Well WHO CARES! The fact is this; with all the damn ships flying around my connection gets a bit lagged and even tho I am nailing the damn a-wings there is no damage being taken off and the only way to fix this real fast is by doing a SHIFT ESC and reconnecting real fast. I have a cable modem with 5MB DL and 1MB UL. I just upgraded my graphics card as well so all you that think its that; it's not. I have read posts on this about people trying for 10 hours straight and failing and people who get groups of 7 or more and STILL FAIL!

They (the devs) should either

  • let the missions save after each completed part

  • OR get rid of the freaking lag by making the game run smoother or whatever.

Now b4 some troll on here posts that the fact the devs don't care or don't post changes on here etc. The are full of it. Seems someone just recently petitioned for the TIE interceptor to have the mass increased to 50k and it seems that they've done it. We can only hope they will do something about this mission as well.
