Thread: Great Idea For Pilots On The Ground!!!
The survivability of non-combat professions in general is a huge issue right now and I expect some kind of resolution to come around eventually, but if it comes in the form of something that wouldn't be applicable to pilots for whatever reason--based on ground profession masteries, certs for items in master crafting boxes, etc (just speculation here, I have no idea what the potential fixes may be)--we would need another solution for ourselves. I'll certainly look into bringing it up soon.
Oh, and as for specifics, the level-based combat would render melee/ranged defense mods and the like fairly ineffective, I'd think. However, the basic idea--pilot helmets and jackets granting the wearer some form of protection--is a sound one. It's extra nice in that they can't be sold, traded, or worn with armor. That removes a lot of the exploit potential for an idea like this, which should make it easier to implement.

Lets face it, people don't wear motorcycle helmets in RL just to look like Trinity from The Matrix.
True. But then again, in RL people don't get killed by dwarf Nunas while going from the shuttleport to their merchant tents either. ![]()
Maybe we can buy some protective gear with prestige points. New helmets, flight suits, jackets and so on. I don't think anyone is askingfor10k full protection tank suits, just something to keep the nunas at bay while the pilots are able to burst run to their house/shop. Either that or let us fly our ships sub-atmosphere and clear out our landing areas ![]()

Great idea but how does one fit the ACE pilot helmet or the jacket on my sorry Ithorian neck + 50 centimeters lower.
lol good point.
The devs went out of their way to make your freakish neck, the least they could do is go out of their way to make you an Ace jacket to cover it up. Or at least a lightly armored turttleneck sweater with pilot wings on it ![]()

It would be nice. My Imp pilot ace alt on Starsider is in the same boat - no combat skills, only ground skills she has is novice scout.
I know what you mean. Shadowfire Thradd is a year old, highly skilled ground combatant with great armor and big guns. He flys where he wants, he walks where he wants. Starsider Thradd on the other hand is only 2 weeks old and has 250 unused Skill Points and is affraid to step foot outside a starport or Imperial Outpost. He is an Ace in space but nuna-bait on the ground.

nuna? you give yourself too much credit, he's chuba bait.
Too true. I'd be on the ground with a chuba chewing on my face and a rill humping my leg. Then I would get DB'd by a one legged, crosseyed, lesser dwarf baby womp rat with downs syndrome and no teeth. Yet another reason for pilot armor
