Hi all,
I posted this in another board for ideas for 24 month veteran rewards, but I thought I'd post it here too.
What if we had guild halls in space (aka, space stations)? Your guild could have it's own station to repair, relax, and conduct your guild business. Just like shuttle ports in player cities, you could charge a tax on repairs to raise money for your guild. You should be able to dock your ship, and board the station. The repair and dock/board options could be turned on or off for non-members, like land based guild halls can be public or private. The station should have both medical and cantina facilities. Another option would be the need to defend your station. This could be based on your faction, or a war with another guild. I don't think the station should be destroyed, just disabled until repaired. Of course, if you don't pay the maintenance, POOF! it's gone.
These are just a few quick thoughts. There are many different possibilities with this suggestion, so please share your thoughts. So what do you think? Good idea, or am I out of my mind?

I think it a really good idea.
Although you don't want space too crowded and them being placed ny anybody. Maybe 1 per guild after they reach a certain town size on the ground.

They could make a few space staions and have instanced guild halls like EQ has now. Yeah it sucks that everyone shows up at the same door... but once you get inside its your respective hall.

This would be great to have a real space station that people could enter ( something people have wanted since beta ) and a great idea on how to limit them to prevent overcrowding in space. Wouldn't be too hard to create an instanced interior for those that 'land' there.

I'm not overly fond of just anyone being able to place a station, as pretty soon space would be swamped with such stations. I do think, however, that it would be good to be able to tie a space station to a city (level 4, or maybe level 5?). If you land at a station, you can port directly to the city tied to it and vice-versa, but the only access you'd have to that ship is through that city/station.
That would limit the number of extra stations we'd see in space (even if they were just little ones like the untargetable ones scattered through some of the systems) and ensure they were visited sometimes.

how bout when a minining ship is docked to an asteriod ( guess thats how its gonna work, would be pretty cool) it can act as a mini station / supply depot / truck stop

And what makes you think anybody'd use em?
Space is all but empty as it is, and people don't even really use guildhalls on the ground for anything but malls.
Waste of coding time in my opinion, but it sounds good on paper.

I love the ideaof having places to go in space. Right now everyone just uses JTL for 'instant travel'. It would be awesome to have other places to actually explore.

Good ideas but I think for now we should just be able to walk around and interact with what is already in place. make the planet space staions, Imp and reb stations dockable and make them like smaller versions of NPC cities inside. You could have cantinas, med centers, ID shops, quest givers, faction recruiters, and so on, all inside of the space stations. And to add a bit of content for our smugglers and freelance pilots out there, make them the only ones who can get opposing faction members onto enemy stations. You could load up a crew of rebs onto a YT and dock with an Imp space station to "offload" some supplies. Make it a mini game for the smuggler/freelance pilot with a sucess/fail rate that would reflect weather your sliced clearance codes worked or not. If you're able to fool the controlers then you dock with the station, unload your troops, and away they go to farm some nice NPC FP or get into it with some overt players. Same with the space station and ISD in deep space.
