Thread: Q: Making money as a n00b

Howdy, I've been with the game a week and have a question. I've heard the best way to make money initially is as a pilot. ...it's not been bad, but by the time I figure in re-investments back into a new ship, ground training, etc, I'mnot exactly coming out hand over fist. (currently 1-1-1-1 Imperial on Bloodfin) ...especially when I start eye'n the cost of the upcomingTie/Int. Is there a point where the money starts to come in at a faster rate? I have heard stories of folks getting 200-300k in a night. I'm not begging; just wondering if I'm doing something wrong--I'm getting about 75-100c per kill and about every 8th ship is dropping an item (mostly L1 stuff). Like I said, it's not bad, just no where near the stories I heard.

Once you are an Ace, it gets easier. I can make 300k in a night without much more than maybe 90-120 minutes in Deep Space. So yes, if your ground character is low level, you can make money faster and easier in space.

Once you get past tier 1, the only real limits on how much money you can make are your storage filling up and your hand getting tired. : )

While I was grinding my first box for tier 4, I spent about an hour and a half killing tier 3 spawns near Lok. Made about 300k experience and about 250k credits, with very little effort.

space mining is good for making money if you don't mind being bored out of your skull. You don't have to do the mining quest to mine you just need a cargo hold and a mining laser. They are a bit expensive and hard to find but at 40 - 60 cpu you can make it back fairly quick.

Money gets easier and easier as you start taking higher tier ships. Once I started being able to take tier 3 ships with ease, I was making credits hand over fist. I currently have 500,000 credits sitting in my bank, and I'm only CL 15 on the ground. I can buy pretty much anything I need at this level. If you're an Imp, I'd suggest saving up for a Heavy TIE instead of an Intercepter. It seems to be an altogether better ship, and probably costs a similar amount. They're harder to find though. Good luck!

That's my problem. I can't fly for too long. Joystick gets my hand all cramped up. Owie!

I'm sure there are a lot of good places that I don't know about for your tier, but I'll tell you the 2 that I know of, and have used to good effect:

The first, and since you are Imperial this one will be fantastic for you, is in Naboo Space, near the Penumbra Omen hyperspace point. The actual POI is called Rebellion Remains, or something like that, and it's about 3k away from Penumbra Omen...there are a few swarms of rebel ships that are mostly tier 1, with some tier 2's thrown in.

The second (the one I used as my own personal ATM until I was tier 4) is in Tatooine Space. I don't remember if it's the Hutt Claims POI or not, but I'll tell you how to get there. Start at the Tat space station, and orient yourself so that you are looking *up* (down would be looking at the planet Tatooine itself) through the center of the station. You should see a large, white nebulous looking cloud. Fly towards the right-center section of it, and you will come into a large asteroid field. Keep the station targeted, and when you are about 4k away from the station, you will see some red blips on your radar. These targets are all tier 1 pirate-types, they seem to come in clusters of 3 and 4, and they respawn rather quickly. Pretty good loot drop rate (when I was there, at least), good cash, anddecent exp flow because of the rapid resapawn.

There is also a side benefit to both of these locations: you will have to learn how to fight against multiple opponents pretty much the whole time you are there, and this skill is quite invaluable to learn, especially early, and especially as an Imperial, since Imps have some of the hardest tier missions available.

Hope this helps you a bit

Welcome to space combat, I hope you are enjoying it, and hope you stick with it.

I forgot to add a somewhat relative figure to my post, since you kind of asked, heh: My experience at the Tatooine location was generally about 8-10k on my credit chip, and somewhere between 8-20 looted items in a half-hour killing spree. In whole numbers, somewhere between 20k-80k in that half hour, mostly depending on how much loot dropped, and how much of it I kept instead of selling it to either a shipwright, orthechassis dealer.

Oh, and don't forget to have an inspiration buff from an entertainer in a cantina before you launch to get the 10% exp bonus, and get and run the droid programs.

There are 3 NPCs in Tatoo space that each have a 3 mission mission string. The payout is about 47k total for each one, and the missions are pretty good experience at your current level too.

Kelen Wordkal- flies near the Tatoo station, look for a looping z95 near some of the parked freighters

Garet Eskel (sp?)- near the Hutt Claims POI, I think you need to be a Smuggler's Alliance for him.

name forgotten- near the N'allera Mining POI cycle targets until you see a named NPC ship to find her.

These are a good start for a real low end pilot. Afterthis, when you're in the second tier, I recommend the missions from Yavin station, and the DebrisCult Destroy Duty.

Ok, I'm only 1/2/1/1 right now, but I made 37k/hour the past two nights, which ain't not bad at this level. How I did it (as an Imp). Hit 'H'; clicked on Corellia; picked the second one, which I think is medium and has rebels and black suns; jumped; killed about 128 rebels; left and sold a bunch of items. It seemed like every third one of them dropped an item, maybe every fourth. They were mostly lvl 1 certs, but that's 1k creds each. Hope this helps.

Umm, no, I was checking on Monday night and only found 2 Heavy TIEs on Bloodfin, both were going for 750k.

Almost makes me wish I didn't give mine to a guildie...

Holy cow, I was just perusing blueprints and saw one for around 100k, figured they were all around that price. Geez...

I used to use that one a lot, too. My new fav isnear Nym's Hovel at Lok. About 1-2k away from the asteroid field you jump into is some sort of space station shaped like a dumbell (don't ask me what POI it is, cause I have no idea). Anyways, there's a spawn point there for level 3 Corsair Kimogilia's, net you 1664 xp each, and they just keep comming. There's also a spawn point in the asteroid field that spawns level 3 Corsair Z-95's, but they take a little longer to kill, and only give 1280 xp.
