Well I am /agree with this. My Inferno has 80HP left in it. But new engines are better and faster...so i retired my Inferno as a relic on my Chevy Nova museum.

No!

*Maybe* ADK on specific components, but definitely not the whole ship. There goes the entire shipwright industry, because we'd never have repeat customers after they reached Master.

ADKs were a dumb idea in the first place, which is why they've gone back and forth on what you can apply them to (sabres, shields etc). An entirely ADKd ship would unbalance stuff entirely. Those JSF fighters would never fall out of service, because they'd never decay.

No.

That's why he says 'components' in the title, I believe.

And I'm of two minds with ADKs...I can see how great they are and at the same time, how detrimental to the Weaponsmith/Armoursmith profession they are, especially WS's.

I don't think that we should be able to put them on ship components, cause that would ultimately just hurt the shipwright. That being said, you'd need a heck of a lot of ADK's to fully protect a ship! lol

Chassis never decay below 10 HP, so Eta-2s and the like will never wear out. The same can be said for many types of components. The ones where decay becomes a significant factor are armor, capacitors, engines, reactors, and weapons, and of these, the only regularly useful crafted items are armor and reactors. Not by coincidence, they form the bulk of the nonexpendable components I sell to the PVPers on my server, and the only way to change that is to make crafted components so good they're often or always better than RE'd ones. If that becomes the case, there'd be no need for ADKs/decayless PVP/refurbish kits/etc. in the first place.. or, for that matter, space loot.

In general, then, I'm an advocate of finding ways to protect the irreplaceable components a pilot has collected for himself. I want to see pilots out there using their best gear, not worrying about regular loot farming, remastering squads just for reward loot, or even not using their stuff at all because it degrades so fast if you get blown up a few times. ADKs are one possible solution for that, and one that's not half bad, as many of us pilots' most prized possessesions isn't a pistol or a modded chestpiece, but an engine or a blaster. And honestly.. how many pilots are going to ADK all 10-15 parts of their ship? Are those rare, rich players going to so negatively impact the shipwright economy? If not, are they really a reason to prevent ADKs from being used on ship components?

However! Crafters are a vital part of SWG, perhaps its most unique feature, and their role in this game must be protected at all costs. Anything that prevents or decreases component decay, then, must come with some system than maintains the shipwright's place in the process of flight. SWG isn't a zero-sum game, in that any improvement to one profession comes at a cost to another. There are ways to let a pilot protect his components without putting a shipwright out of business. A number of great suggestions for this were made in the recent PVP decay focus thread, in fact, and I'm hoping that some system can be developed from the discussion there that can make space more enjoyable for pilots while keeping it every bit, if not more than, as profitable and rewarding as it is now for shipwrights.

Lol, if you apply a ADK to the ship, you shouldn't be able to manage it.

To manage the ship, or two retrieve your ADK, you have to delete everything in it

By the way, No.

Putting ADK's on individual components wouldn't be too bad. And remember, to retrieve your ADK you have to destroy the component. There aren't many players who will be able to ADK all the components on their ship.

My opinion?

Bottom line .. I don't see ADK's putting armorsmiths and weaponsmiths out of business...do you?

Decay right now is too much, yes, but I don't want to see it swing back the other way with pre-nerf shields and engines never decaying. ADKs are a ground-combat thing, created to address issues there, not in space.

Ground combat thing? ... funny I thought they were veteran reward things. What issue could they be adressing by allowing each character to have one item that doesn't break after a year of playing?

selfish arguements like those above give shipwrights a bad name. there are definately plenty of ways to keep shipwrights happy without making pilots unhappy. if youre against it, be against it because you want level playing fields or something, not because you think i'd ruin shipwright's business, which it obviously wouldn't.

i think it's a good idea.

I used my ADK on my light saber. And if my ship takes any damage I'll just hop in to Deep Space to fix it.

Selfish? Theoriginalp post was about ADKing the entire ship, not individual components, that's why I reacted so strongly to it. You can apply ADKs to separate pieces of armour on the ground, not the entire suit + weapons + PSG.

Individual components, I still don't agree with it (see my reply to Tomo's), but I could stomach it. As has been said, you hit deepspace and everything is repaired anyway.

Personally, I like the balance there is now with crafted vs looted/REd components. Generally, the only way to beat a decent crafted component is with a decent RE job. That's good. It keeps people in space, looking for the one last stat on their next Mark V weapon. And besides, they need a shipwright to do the REing for them.

Those big REd components shouldn't stick around forever though. That's their balance. I *want* those great components to be valuable, and nothing valuable is attained without effort and care. I want pilots to break out their nicest stuff for the toughest battles, not the everyday grind.

Could you point us to the decay ideas you mentioned, Tomo? I'd be interested to see the suggestions.
