Thread: Focus: PVP Decay

Well, so long as we're sort of waiting out the storm like this, I'd like to hear your thoughts on something that's been brought up tangentially in the recent PVP tactics thread but not discussed explicitly. Specifically, what do you think of PVP decay?

Currently, unless you hyper to Deep Space for decayless repairs, any damaged component will lose 10% of the armor and HP that get repaired. What do you all think of this? Too much? Too little? Just right? Should we have PVP decay at all? If not, do you think removing it will impact shipwrights, and if so, got any suggestions to "make it up" to them? If not, got any alternate suggestions for keeping a sting to death in PVP, or think one is needed?

It's okay to debate any and all of these things here (and anything else that comes to mind), but I'm mainly looking for how the community feels on the matter, so try not to get heated. We're just exploring on this one.

I think PvP decay should be eliminated. Just my opinion, ofcourse.

I agree. PvP decay for fighter pilots should be eliminated. Hell, on the ground, if you get killed by an opposite-faction NPC, you don't get decay on your gear. I don't think taking out space PvP decay would be so horrible. Just make sure that you get free repairs for being vaped for being overt by another overt pilot.

I'm definitely a fan of decay with pvp. Mainly becausewe needtohave negative repercussions for dying. Just aswe needtohave a positive even though there doesn't seem to be any of that either atm.

It also helps out Shipwrights by not letting them come even closer to DE's who have no decay at all on their items and therefor can't make any money from repeat buyers.

I'd like to keep decay on components but remove it from chassis. Kinda illogical but I get more attached to my chassis than my components.

There are few enough people playing JTL as it is. I've only found one opposing, overt, player in the past two weeks. People have been picking up JTL to get a badge and free travel, but they are not staying. Shipwrights have already become wealthy off us, why beat us any more? I've spent close to 40 million between 2 accounts and 4 pilot professions. Do the shipwrights really need more?

I think that removing the decay would greatly encourage PvP on the lesser populated servers. I sometimes spend an hour trying to find overt players, and when I do, it takes even long for me to actually track them down in the sector!

Perhaps if there was some way for shipwrights to "Insure" our components, that would give shipwrights the business they need while allowing us to keep our nicely REd components in good shape.

Thoughts?

I'm a big fan of decay-free PvP...in fact, it's the only reason I PvP in space.

A reason for keeping PvP decayless is the fact that PvP space battles are over in a few shots...mostly shots that were never seen coming.

And yes, I would like to see it become an overt-only thing. Duels and PvE deaths should keep decaying.

I would rather see the opposite. Decay the chassis, but not the components. Except for Firesprays, chassis are easily replaced. Components, on the other hand, are not.

I would rather components decay because generally the components of something will wear out before the actualy item wears out itself. You might damage your booster by putting it under too much stress to try and escape a hazardous incident so you repair or replace it and so on. It just feels more RPish to me to keep your chassis and replace components as they decay however I'd be happy with no decay or maybe a highly reduced component decay from PvP death and no chassis decay.

Keep decay, keep my business alive.
If ships didnt go bust, there would soon be very little demand for ship chassis. As it is now the pilots on my sever are getting amazing deals. for example: I make a tier 4 ship for 90k resources. 90x x 2 cpu = 180k. I sell tier 4 ships for 195k. Thats almost no proffit at all. Id hate to see demand go even lower. There are some people that try to sell tier 4 ships for 240-300k but its hard. but at prices that low your only selling ships for 3 cpu where the resources cost you 2 cpu to make the ship. You'd be better off minning and then selling resources rather than making ships at those prices.

My point is we need decay to survive. In fact i would promote increased decay if possible lol (shipwright part of me speaking).

of yah i should have mentioned that i do understand your point of no pvp decay. Increasing the amount of pvp and fun for pilots. Just thinking it would hurt me in the long run.

If they eliminated decay in PvP, I would be overt all the time in space.

Also...if they do, I would suggest they change being overt in space 'until you die or go back to the station to go covert' ... if they remove the negative (decay) ... there is no real reason to automatically go covert upon landing.
