Thread: 'N00b pilots' who go overt read this..I'm serious [for once]

Hello.
I've been flying as a Rebel pilot on Bria now for nearly a year, I'm very experienced in pve and pvp and I know my profession extremely well.
You can see my views on pvp in the pvp ettiquette thread and you must agree that I'm pretty fair in those views. No loadkilling etc. I don't resort to petty exploits and I strive to be as good a friendly helpful pilot on my server as I can be.
However, I have a few things to say about the influx of new pilots [mainly Imperial sorry] that I've flown against over the last month.
Firstly, lets start off with a situation that happened yesterday and in fact which is similar to other situations me and my fellow pilots have had this lately. I was helping a guy do his tier 4 mission in Endor [Havoc sqdrn] in my A-wing. Now in my A-wing I try and make it blatantly obvious that I'm overt...hell the big red box around my ship due to the CU changes should make this obvious, so I'm helping this guy and as I am pressing Z to see if any imps are near..I happen to notice some guy in a JSF hurtling in my direction about two clicks out. So appreciating the fact that it was a JSF so hard to replace and the fact this guy is probably just grinding FP I came to a stand still making sureall the time no other imps were sneaking up on me....and watch.
So he gets to within 1click and by now I'm almost positive it is I he is aiming for..I even see his blasters starting to flash so I go evasive and into general attack mode from then on. Eventually I kill him and send him a tell "Nice flying" etc, but what do I get back? "That was a *insert profanity here* circus don't attack me again".
Erm...ok so they fire the first shot and apparently I jumped them.
I know everyone who is a veteran gets this I'm sure but the fact is, I've had this off at least ten people in similar situations since rotw came out and all these new pilots have got their hands on the JSF.
Later on I got hate tells after I set the first guy to ignore from his friends telling me I must be exploiting because an A-wing 'can't possibly defeat a JSF in pvp' apparently.
So rather than giving them a detailed list on why I defeated them etc and how engines have a lot to do with how well a ship turns and how I'm a hundred fold times more experienced than them I just say "Heh fine..report me to the devs..it'll waste your time and amuse me" then put them on ignore.
I know I'm rambling and ranting to a certain extent here but if you are a new pilot , take heed of these few points VERY carefully . If you ignore them..well feel free to engage me in pvp but you'll die, so stop whinging.
1. The JSF is an excellent ship yes...but it is only as good as the parts you put in it and as good as -YOU- are. You CANNOT even begin to expect to defeat a pilot who has a decent reverse engineered engine in their ship in a turning battle if you are using a crafted engine.
HERE IS WHY.
- Crafted engines are very fast yes...but thats it..VERY fast, but they cannot turn for cr*p. Yeh ok the devs improved the r,p,y on them slightly but still...when you can achieve a r,p,y in the high 70's / low 80's with a reverse engineered engine the slightly improved r,p,y on crafted engines count for NOTHING.
2. Imperials on Bria are used to strutting around on the ground spawn killing Rebels in pvp etc and generally owning the place but here is an EYE OPENER. In space...believe it or not, butits a different ball game. Your ground stats count for -NOTHING- and it is all down to-you- to get anywhere. You cannot expect to go overt and be left alone to FP grind unhindered. If you don't want to die..learn how to fight better, learn how to equip your ship better andFOR THE LOVEOF ALL THINGS UNHOLY....STOP WHINING!!! (even though I am right now..but I'm allowed to 'cause I'm nice usually)
If a pilot...not just me, not just Rebel..but any pilot in any faction is flying around overt and they come within targetting proximity of an enemy player ship they havetwo rights...
1. They have the right to fly away as fast as possible and hit the Emergency Hypermacro.
2. They can stand and fight.
You cannot, as I said before expect someone to not attack you. Declaring overt status is just that..hell the faction space station tells you "You can be attacked by enemy players". It'll only be -YOU- who presses the YES button in order to accept that....it is YOUR responcibility....not the person who just blasted you to subatoms. So get over it and spam the Z button or....just don't grind FP in space...go combatant on ground where you may stand a chance and kill enemy NPCs down there.
Nextly....read Dumicus' pvp primer for beginners. Seriously..do everyone a favour and read it.
Now I know I've ranted about the Empire here, but please don't get me wrong. There are good Imperial pilots on Bria, but pvp wise this lately I'm just not seeing many of them that often and the pilots who I do see on the whole need serious waking up.
When I first started pvp'ing...I wasn't perfect. Hell, Rapax [Dumicus] almost put me on his ignore list then I first spoke to him after he blasted me to pieces way back when,BUT I can see reason and now I'm good friends with him, I managed to change my attitude etc. I don't and didn't just stick by my shattered pride trying to regain it....I listened and now I at least get an ounce of respect off my fellow pilots both friendly and Imperial. I have nothing against a bit of arrogance, a bit of cockiness etc. Even Tomo said 'A pilot without his attitude is just some guy' and I couldn't agree more...but blind arrogance and the willing not to change and see reason and to accept that shock of horrors that you may be wrong is unacceptable.
When I'm flying from now on my afk auto responce will always be on and it'll read somthing like this...
"AFK auto Responce: If I just killed you, too bad, try again. If you just killed me then well done, I'll have to improve for next time"
-Leaph Chausew.
P.S etc...
I actually feel a bit harsh typing the above, but it just had to be said. I'm sick of the narrow mindedness of this new pilot generation and until they change they can expect no mercy off me...I'm not perfect and only fly an A-wing..how hard can I be?
And also...seriously...don't even bother going overt with a crafted engine. Not on Bria anyway. The only application I can see a uber high speed crafted engine being used successfully is where all experimentation goes into top speed and it is loaded into a TIE Oppressor with three missile tubes full to the brim with mkII Image Rec missiles. The tactic being, fly in with EO4 running at uber high speed so not even my A-wing can catch you, launch the attack, fly off into the sunset [or prefarably a sun] before anyone can engage in a turning battle etc and get out of range....I wouldn't whine about it if you did it to me and I expect you to hold me to that if you do try it.
But apart from that, forgive my narrow Rebel mind, but Crafted engines = a quick trip to your nearest repair station when used in pvp in my oppinion.
Ok..now I'm done. Feel free to tear me to pieces with abuse now..
I agree 100% with everything you are saying. One thing that I love about the pilot community is that, normal pilot ego smack talking aside, most vet pilots are all very respectful of one another. In WW1 the Reb Baron whorte that while going round and round with an enemy pilot, the enemy actually looked over, smiled and waved to the Baron.
As for the JSF thing and disrespectful pilots, this is happening in all factions and on all servers. It seems that rookie pilots are getting 4xxx, grab a JSF, put a 60+ PYR 100+ t/s engine in there, strap the biggest guns they can find onto it, think they are Anakin Skywalker, go out overt, and die. The last JSF I shot down was one of these pilots.I fly a B-22 until they fix the damn RGI quest (grrr). Mostly I fly the B-22 because of my lvl2 booster that makes it look like I've got screaming pipes on the side of it ![]()
Anyway..after it was all over I send the guy a/tell /salute. I get back a "d00d how fast were you going?!"So i tell him the t/s on my engine is 96.2 and running EO4 i can hit a little over 1300. So he then says "W T F!!! how did you beat me?! my engine is 119 and i was going way faster than you!!! you using sploits!!! eff you!!" So then he came back and tried it again 3 more times. Same result. I asked him what the stats of his engine were and what pilot level he was. He didn't know how to check either. So I told him how to check everything. Truns out he's got the same type of engine I use in my Decimator: a crafted 60+ PYR/119 t/s engine. Great for a Decimator or as you said an Oppressor. Not so great for a light fighter. So then he wants to know what the stats are of my 'sploited ship and how I was able to beat him. So I told him my stats. and he says "I'm going to effing report you!!!" so now the smartmouth pilot kicks in and the honorable pilot is turned off "Report me for what? Being a better pilot than you?" Forget it....I was in tell hell after that.
I tried to explain to him that speed in PVP isn't everything. My engine isn't uber by any means. It's a nice lvl10 RE'd 80+ PYR/96.2 t/s. There are FAR FAR better engines out there. It was the PYR that killed him. Plus, I'd like to think, a bit of skill on my part.
I'm also a vet of JTL and of many other flight sims as most of the JTL vets are. And most of us had to do 90% if not 100% of our JTL grinding solo. I found out that this guy got most of his xp in the back of a Nova ( I call that a Shotgun Ace) or by his Ace buddies disabeling for him so he could swoop in and kill. That's another thing that hurt him. He just didn't have enough stick time.
I look at it like this...either these rookie pilots will learn from their mistakes and get better which will then make PVP better....or they will get pissed off, stay pissed off, and never fly again making room for the rookies who want to be great pilots and not just Shotgun Aces
/target pilots
/salute

I've had the same experience with JSF pilots. And I killed them in anX-Wing so that must have hurt even more ![]()
They hear ingame about the Uberness of the JSF and forget to read the fineprint on the forum that we're mostly concerned that two equal pilots with 1 in a JSF and the other in a pre-RotW ship fight ends with the JSF victorious most of the time.
Just blast them, /addignore. When their JSF drops to low condition they'll be scared to lose it due to decay and won't fly it in PvP anymore. Problem solved. ![]()
I agree with the original poster completely. If you're an overt rebbie in the same sector as me, expect a fight. I may not win, but you'll feel it.

Its a shame most JSF are imps. See im doing imp pilot again right now, and i think im just going to be a total missleboat boy with an oppressor before i leave bria, just to see how many hate tells i can get from this new breed of so called pilots. (IE, Idiots from the ground with a JSF and a crafted engine)

Isn't PVP is space still first hit wins? How is there even manuvering it's usually line up and blow up. I win some and lose some but I don't think all my dogfighting combined has reached 5min yet.
You just havent gone up against someone smarter than you are yet.
When you get two pilots who know what they are doing, fights can easily appraoch the 5 min mark. Honestly its damn annoying, 5 mins is a LONG time in a high speed twisting match. Win or lose, my tell, if i send one at all, is , "damn its about time, that was getting old!"
By the time he turned guns to me I was out of range and trying to figure out a way to get back in with out getting shot up. Amazingly enough we didn't one shot kill each other. I recall hitting him 6 times before his sheilds and armour gave out. I perfer hitting many times instead of 1 hit wonder. He hit about the same but my armour held out, I'm one of those pilots that actually like a lot of steel plate bewteen me and hard vacuum.
I'd probably do the same thing you are, Leaph.. ignore it when it gets unproductive, and continue blasting them into their component atoms.
Aside- yet another reason the Vaksai is a dream to loadout. Engine, gun, shield, subsystems, AND room for more than tinfoil armor.

Hear hear! Its space, your skill counts, and if you don't got it, don't bring it.
Besides, you have to do special stuff to go overt, so don't whine when you get taken out.
