Ok I finally got a decent engine 102.3 (my 1st try with helping a noob from another galaxy). Right now pre-RE stats on engines are the following
817/817 armor/hp (from reward engine)
1415 Drain
21131 mass
73.7 Pitch
72.0 Yaw
73.1 Roll
102.3 Speed (QID)

-updated with Post-RE screenshot-

My advice: trust your gut. Take your own advice and hold off for a while. Aside from the yaw, I'd consider holding out for a better drain.

thats a nice qid.

what you need to consider is how bad do you need this engine. if you already have a decent re'd l8 i would hold out fot about 23k even mass pre're and a couple hundred less reactor drain along with the higher yaw. if you are hurting for a good engine, i would get one with 71.5 yaw and make it now.

QID - Quantum Ion Drive, the L8/RE8 engine Nym rewards as part of the Starmap quest.

My advice is to at the very least, skip settling for a 71.5 yaw and wait for at least a 74.0 - 74.0 will hit the 1.4 yaw modifier, and yaw is the most used stat in maneuvering, so you can "fudge" a little in the roll and pitch categories.

Sure, it might take a while, but you don't want to waste a 1xx.x engine. Get the drain down into the 13xx range, too.

I have 5 factories full of RE loot and have never seen anything over a 72.. I doubt I'll be waiting for a 74, I have the creds to buy it if it exists but on my server there isn't much JTL playing going on.

Also changing a single decimal that you "see" is kinda pointless. I know because I'm a weaponsmith, there are hidden decimals you don't see in the UI, which was proven in the combat upgrade when we got several places added to our weapon UI. They are probably still there but you can't see em.

Actually, I pitch more than yaw. More comfortable on the hand, I guess. Still crying over a 70.1 pitch level 6 someone else looted a while back (crying because, after hundreds of level 6's, I've never seen anything over 69).

To the OP if you're willing to wait, go for it. To be honest, I see very few fights, if any, where a few points of manueverability actually make a difference. I'm still not sold on the necessity of level 8 engines, in fact. At least on Bloodfin, I've been holding my own just fine with a level 6.

A good lvl8 can easily outperform a pre-nerf re'ed lvl6 engine. Is a lvl8 needed, no not really unless your heavily into PvP and facing an opponent that also has a high end lvl8 re'ed engine.

I agree with most the other posters, if you can hold out on that engine I would, but if your hurting for an engine then go ahead and RE it, you have pretty good stats on it now but if you can wait then why take that minor hit.

I'm not so sure I agree anymore. I think that in an all out performance battle, then obviously the level 8 will win. Two top aces in the same chassis with the same loadout except for engine, the better engine will win. But with the variety of loadouts, flight styles, and chassis being used in PvP, my level 6 scoots me just fine (I frequently get tells asking if it's a level 8, it's not even a good 6).

Just nitpicking flight philosophy. The advice in this thread is pretty good.

I just got a 71.5 Yaw donate to me, I think I am happy with 75 YPR post RE, now to work on the Mass and Drain.. I do want to try and eo4 this sucker too.

As for the Lvl 6's, I hve a sub-par pre-nerf RE lvl 6 that was slapped together early in JTL before I knew what to wait for, I use this in my JSF with eo4 and have smoked just about everyone that has came across me in deep space. I mainly want the level 8 to see what I can do in the JSF but mostly to try out in a Vaksai or Heavy X.

I'm holding out until I hit 73.2 pre-RE on every stat. I just need yaw. The mass is fine at 21K.

My QID (RE'd) :

1340.5

22156.2

74.8

74.0

73.8

99.1

Sure i could have waited and collect more L8's loot, but i was using a crafted L10 and with the mass this thing was taking i couldn't use my 3 RE'd Tri-Cannon andi can now along with my RE'd Taim&Bak reward shield and get this, i can use a mark 1 reactor, not even going above 12k in energy drain.

What you have to ask yourself is this enough for my RE project? Can i use what i have in mind? My project was to be able to fit my Heavy Xwing with 3 Tri-Cannon, Taim&Bak Shield, and a decent L8 engine to dogfight with, only part missing now is a RE'd Booster/DI.

So, while doing the math i noticed i could use my Planned Loadout, i didn't wait anymore to RE it. I'll admit the decision was easier because i know i'll be able to run with my altmore Nym's Starmap untill i'll get this dreamy QID with at least 100 top speed *cross fingers*.

If i were you, i'd RE it, thats pretty nice stats.
