Joystick > Mouse?
I seem to bounce nonstop with my mouse, and I've been thinking about getting a joystick, but I was wondering if the samething happens with the joystick as with the mouse.
If not, is there a joy stick that your prefer over all others, or would suggest for some one who can manage like 30 bucks on it?

I just like the precision granted by the mouse - no joystick gives me up to 2000dpi.

I did at one point prefer the mouse, but once I got used to the joystick I can't fly without it. My mouse also jumped way too much. My favorite part about the joystick (which should affect your selection should you decide to buy one) is the ability to twist the stick to roll. Makes a hit-and-run on a gunboat a snap. The joystick I bought is cheap, but works beautifully, $29.99 Saitek ST290 PRO. My second favorite thing about it is the throttle. Six buttons and a look-stick doesn't hurt either.

I've used a joystick ever since TIE Fighter came out. I used to use el cheapos since I would use them so much they'd break before the warrenty gave out so I could return it, get another, and repeat. The latest one of those finally choked and died tonight while helping a guildmate in space, so I decided to go for a snazzy joystick with the twist-to-roll and several programmable buttons. After drooling over the Saitek X-52, I decided to be thrifty and get the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro instead. I can already do things that much more efficiently and have all the main commands programmed to it.

I would heartily recommend joystick over mouse, but if a mouse really works for you, keep using it.

I always used a mouse, personally, and I think it gives a little better precision. I do think it's something of a personal decision, though.

I am cursed with bad joysticks. The calibration likes to wig out all of the time, pulling to the right, etc. Right now it it's extremely sluggish pulling back, sometimes it won't move at all. I tried adjusting to the mouse but the kicker is that you can't put the throttle control on the mouse wheel. Using it with keys is much slower than using a throttle on a joystick, making a huge difference in chasing. In head on attacks though, the mouse wins hands down.

So uh, yeah, next time you put up a to-do list, ask for assigning the throttle to the mouse wheel Tomo.

I use a Razer Diamondback optical mouse and I wouldn't have it any other way. Mouse FTW indeed.

i have trouble getting used to twisting the stick to roll, its just unnatural to my hand. i wish i could config it like X-Wing and have it be when i hold down a top button and push it to the side it would roll.

Ah thanks for the feed back
Until I get a test joystick from a friend, are there any tips in controlling the bounce? Or should I try to get used to it?

Optical trackball here. No bounce, nice control, minimal movement. Four buttons allow for quick target selection, missiles, lasers, and rearview action.

Gotta love logitech.
