Thread: possible to have too much pyr?
Pivoting in place only becomes a problem when you're in a scrum, or if for some reason you do it too early while the person is still approaching and can line up on you. Otherwise, you're essentially always "behind" your target, since he's making wider circles.
Simple solution would be to tap your booster when you feel like you're in too tight a circle and your foe might be getting a line on you. This instantly widens your arc, and may even skew your facing the last couple of degrees you need to get a shot on him.
Also remember that what may feel like pivoting in place almost never is. To get a more objective idea of what your movements look like, go out with friends and make your tightest loops in front of them, while they sit stationary and watch you, then change places and watch them. It's easier to gain perspective when one of you isn't moving.
Gilack posted! But, um, what's a scrum?
I posted on this a while back, and it didn't get nearly the attention I felt it deserved. A fast engine will make up for quite a lack in PYR, but it's not a simple thing to discuss. Like Gilack said though, most engines (QID anyone?) are never sitting in space, although they may appear to be at times.
Also realize that some ships with insane PYR and low speed (Oppressor, X-Wing, etc. at low throttle) can be a real nightmare for light ships like A-Wings or Interceptors that have a low slide ability and have to attack targets directly.
Same as a furball, but doesn't make me think of the noise my cat makes.

Hrm, that's more of a htwakljk! htwakljk! kinda sound. Or do you mean the sound after I push the cat into the bathtub full of water?
*sigh* I dont think of it for onomatpaeic reasons, but when my cat has a furball... and coughs it up.... get it now? Scrum is a rugby term.

Well, in that case it's a cry of anguish like, 'rrrrroowwwwwwwwwww!' when I chase the cat out of the room for hacking up on my desk. Usually leading to the above mentioned bathtub treatment.
And people wonder why I stopped posting....

Didn't mean to offend, just having some fun... Miss seeing you around here.
Thraddand I actually tested this
and if your PYR is high enough and TS low enough, you can even turn backwards in a slide (a-wings have a nice slide)
and yes, some ships will sit there with thier nose glued in place with the rear swinging around the axis

too much? well if you sit and spin, you will not move much, but I wouldn't shoot myself in the foot over it by intentionally cutting my PYR
turn...backwards? Please define this. You mean when you kind of ricochet your throttle off a preset then slam it back up while executing a tight combination of roll and pitch to make the ship backflip more or less 'on the spot' ?
