Thread: Packing up my JSF...because you said so...lol
First of all, you pay 15$ a month to play so if you want to fly the JSF, do so. Don't blame us ![]()
The Vaksai is fairly balanced, huge mass but normal PYRand quite a big hitbox. It's just easier to ban all RotW ships in an event then to make selections. Same goes for the Heavy X.
I'm limited to PvE currently and only fly non-RotW ships. They're more fun to set-up due to the mass limitations and a greater challenge to fly. But that's my choice and for me the most bang for my 15 bucks. Flying around without any risk of damage just isn't fun for me.
You will get more respect from us old-timers by PvP-ing in a non-rotw chassis, simply because there's some real skill required to set them up and fly effectively.
Most people see the JSF and GSF (grevious star fighter) as imbalanced due to their extremely small size and large mass.
The 2 you mention the Advanced Xwing and Vaksai both have hit boxes that match their respective mass capabilities. So in the JSF and GSF there is no down side to the larger mass, nice manuverablity, 2 gun hard points, and small hit box. The advanced adds more mass to the frame of the regular Xwing so you have the same size, manuverabilty, and still have 3 gun points.
The Vaksai on the other hand is an interesting ship, it has very big mass, 1.0 speed modifier, yet only one gun. this actually makes it a very nice PVP ship. I would also assume if it had the hit box of the Kihraxz it would be also be viewed at imbalanced. But the large hit box and only one gun balances it out nicely, yet leaves a very compitant ship.

Ok for the last 2 months or so I have exclusively been flying my JSF. It is a fun ship, I enjoy flying it. However I want to get into more PvP and as someone said in another post, the JSF is very forgiving and will eventually dull your piloting skills. I have noticed this happen to me...the other night I logged on my rebel pilot and went into kessel with my a-wing, boy was I a little rusty flying that ship. Anyway, I have also noticed many, "leave the RoTW ships at home" and other comments bashing those who fly these ships. But then I will see some of these same people saying how much they love their heavy-X, vaksai etc...errr am I missing something? Those are also RoTW ships, although the PYR Speed/acc etc modifiers are not changed the mass changes are godly. So what gives?
Currently flying around with my freelance pilot, to be honest I have tried all the ships and dislike most of them, I do however like my Vaksai, am I going to catch some heat for making this my new love? Also, it seems to me the hitbox is rather large on the Vaksai, any of you using this for PvP effectively? Just wanted some imput. Thanks for the replies. Constructive criticism is welcomed.
Fly a JSF if you wish, I mean yeh there is this pretty obvious contempt for the ship held by a lot of people
I like to alternate ships weekly to keep skills up. JSF, Heavy-X, A-Wing(Beautiful Piece of hardware), KSE, Vaksai and the YT. The YT I try to make a Nightly thing (at least for the next month) since the POB parts came out. Nothing is more satisfying then taking down a vette with a competent Crew in a once obsolete ship.
But one thing is for sure. If you like the JSF don't put it away. Just outfit it the way you want and keep other ships ready to fly as well. Never give up your fun just because of what someone else thinks.

As long as rebels are flying heavy-x I'm not dropping my JSF!
The Advanced X-wing and the Actis are two very different beasts. Even with a level 10 engine with extreme YPR, the Advanced X-wing will never completely overcome its size disadvantage. The Actis, on the other hand, is hypermaneuverable, even with a level 6 engine, and extremely difficult to hit. ( :: think of Leaph in an Actis :: /shudder) Is the Advanced X-wing overpowered in the current scheme of things? For PvE, very much so--for PvP, somewhat so. But as the X-wing pilots in my guild will tell you, the Advanced X-wings can be brought down without much difficulty by the JtL craft if the opposing pilots know what they're doing. (Right Leaph?

Don't tell me that advanced x-wing with 3x mass capacity advantage is a match for regular tie-advanced/interceptor.
I am not saying that JSF and heavy-x are a match (obviously JSF has advantage over heavy-x) what I am saying is that there is no alternative in pre-ROTW imperial ships to match heavy-x.

1.Krayt
2. TIE Oppressor.
Thing is, yeh heavy X's are great but I could honestly only count on one hand the amount of pilots who I know do well in pve AND pvp with them. There are a great many more who do well with them in pve, but pvp wise they last for about a second. Personally, I still prefer a standard x-wing but comparing a JSF to a Heavy X-wing practicality wise is kind of dumb. A JSF will slaughter a Heavy X in pvp unless the heavy X-wing pilot is awesome. In pve, the Heavy X-wing will probably kick the JSFs ass but I am inclined to say that it comes down to the pilot at the end of the day.
I personally don't think you needed to justify yourself in the first place though. If you want to fly a JSF...fly a JSF. You don't need to say "well, I'll use it because other people use that other ship"..it isn't like that. At the end of the day, a judgement of a pilot is made through what they achieve and those who also know what they're doing will appreciate the good points and bad points. Whether pilots like it or not; when you go into pvp in this game it's like being put on stage.

Fly what you like. I know that I could just as well if not better in an advanced but I fly an interceptor because I like the way it looks and the way it make me feel while flying it. I feel like those interceptor pilots in the movies must have felt heading for a squadron of x-wings. Kind of like an all or nothing attitude mixed with sheer blood lust and thrill of battle. Also, if you really like the chassis, you are more likely to stick with it when you get a bad week and die alot. Just pick the ship you like the best and fits your style, then out fit it to the best of your abilities and you will do well in PvP.
Heh...what's that quote in the Essential Guide to Vehicle? "TIE fighter pilots are suicidal, and TIE Defender pilots are bloodthirsty. But it's TIE Interceptors that I fear, because those pilots are suicidal and bloodthirsty." --Kyle Katarn

As everyone else has already said...fly what you want. I used to think the JSF made people sloppy. But after I dropped my JSF for the RGI, then the RGI for a TIE Heavy, then the TIE Heavy for an OG Interceptor, the the squint for the Vaksai I learned that it didn't really make me sloppy at all. You just need to learn or relearn your new ship. But the JSF is a much more user friendly ship and one I would recommend for a person who isn't 100% sure about JTL.
You don't need to fly for anyone but yourself. It's a game so who gives a fig what the masses think of you. I'm sure you do just fine IRL which is all that counts. But if you feel the need to not fly a ship then...as long as it's for you and not the rest of the geeks who play this game, then do it. I dropped the RGI not because soooooo many people cry about it but because I really didn't like being Teflon coated and that ship WILL make you sloppy. I used to dive into the middle of 3 gunboats and fly circles around them while killing them. They never had a chance against the RGI. I tried that sheet in my Vaksai once. Only once.
It's a game. Have fun. You're paying for it. ![]()
