Thread: May drop Reb to go Freelancer. Questions...

As the title says, I'm thinking about dropping Reb to go Freelancer. As much as I love the Rebel ships (A- and B-wings kick serious @$$), it lacks the one thing I really want: The Millenium Falcom (aka the YT-1300). The Nova may be functionally the same, but it isn't the same. So, here are some questions...

Are the Freelancer equivalents of the X, A and B truly comparable? What are the strengths and weaknesses compared to these ships?

Is the YT-1300 truly like walking around inside the Falcon?

Which squadron runs "Rebel" missions (i.e. I attack the Star Ravager for my Master mission)? What is the starting point?

Are there any particular issues with certain squadrons (i.e. insanely hard missions of trainers who are broken)?

Am I correct that I can attack either faction and declare Reb or Imp depending on my whim at the time? Am i correct that neither faction will aggro me if I'm neutral?

If you've done both Reb and Freelancer, which did you enjoy mostand why?

Finally, I assume I won't be able to wear my "X-Wing Helmet" when I drop Allaince Ace, right?

TIA for your help. Feel free to add any thoughts/points I missed...

Welcome to my world IonControl

*points at sig*

You know i wore my rebel ace helmet until last night when i made master pilot. Can't put it back on now, so its on the wall at the house

Ill try and answer some of your questions:

>>re the Freelancer equivalents of the X, A and B truly comparable? What are the strengths and weaknesses compared to these ships?
>>

Well heres the skinny version. The dunelizard is more manueverable in YPR than both the X wing, and i think the A wing as well. HOwever, the dunelizard is both slower than the A wing, and faster than the X wing with foils unlocked. Get a high YPR engine with overload 3 in a dunelizard, and *almost* like flying an 85K mass A wing with 2 weapons.

Then theres the Ryxirk. This thing puts Y wings to shame, and can give a B wing a good run for its money. I dont think it can outdamage the B wing, but its not far behind. The Ryxirk is more manueverable the the Y wings, and B wing, packs 3 hardpoints, and they're all alone the body which means you dont have a weapon spread or convergance to deal with. This thing shreds. Of course while it handles better than a Y wing, its not THAT much better, so you still have some slide to compensate for.

Rest of the ships in my opinion, are worthless. Except for the Krayt. This thing rocks, and i will be replacing my Ryxirk. It handles like a mediocre fighter... better than a ryxirk, but not quite dunelizard handling either.

>>which squadron runs "Rebel" missions (i.e. I attack the Star Ravager for my Master mission)? What is the starting point?
>>

I just went Smugglers alliance and had to kill the star ravanger again. That said,
RSF is a imperial ally, they can't attack imperial ships
Corsec is a rebel ally.
Smugglers Alliance is true neutral, you can attack whoever you want. Im complely neutral in the game right now, so when i go to kessle for teir 5's, i can shoot who i like.

>>If you've done both Reb and Freelancer, which did you enjoy mostand why?
>>

As rebel, all i ended up flying was my Xwing, nothing else. I rarely used the B wing, only used the A wing for PvP, so the rest of the time i was in my xwing. Don't really miss it that much. Im not nocking on the xwing, its the b est fighter in its class out there, i just don't miss it is all.

But skillwise, what i miss most from rebel pilot, is EMergency shields. The droid commands you can get anywhere so no loss there. But all the fancy repair skills and haulers? I rarely used them, so i dont miss them.

Privateer wise, i havent experimented much other than the droid commands, which are far more useful i think. Pirate trap is a joke, dont bother. The "blast" commands seem useful, but i dont really use them, i should start to. IFF as a neutral pilot is VERY NICE. Unlike being a factioned pilot where IFF only works for so long, hit IFF as a netural pilot and they forget about you complely. Get in over my head, hit IFF, they leave me alone ,and i dont have to leave the area, unlike rebel pilot where IFF was to buy time to hit the afterburners and get out of Dodge.

>>Finally, I assume I won't be able to wear my "X-Wing Helmet" when I drop Allaince Ace, right?

ONLY if you take it off yourself. It will stay on your head as long as you like, but once you remove it, it becomes a wall decoration as you won't be able to equip it again.

On a side note, MASTER PILOT BONUS EXP ROCKS. Heres how it works:
Number of Pilot professions mastered * MobsXp = bonus

Say a given mob is wotht 3000 xp.
So you kill said mob worth 3000 xp. You get that XP as well as the master pilot bonus on top of that. So you have mastered once, so thats 1 * 3000 = 3000

So thats 6000 XP total. Basically every mob you kill, you get the xp for two.

Right now ive mastered 2 pilot professions (privateer and rebel) for me to kill the same 3000 xp mob if i were to start a new pilot profession my tally would look like:

mob kill =3000
+ bonus (2 professions * mobs exp of 3000) = 6000
Total 9000 xp for that kill.

So It wont take you long to remaster. Infact i think i did privateer in about a little over a week, and i did everything solo except for the corvette.

Rebel and Freelancer are pretty close to each other when it comes to ships.

A-Wing ~ Kihraxz

The Kihraxz has lower mass by 25k, which is quite a bit for a light fighter, but it also has a substancial advantage over the A-Wing as far as manuerverability goes. Weapon/Missile slots are identical.

X-Wing ~ Ixiyen/Dunelizard

Both Freelance ships are good. The Ixiyen has a slightly lower mass (around 5k) and a lower Pitch and Roll rating than the X-Wing does, and the Dunelizard has 15k lower mass than the X-Wing but at identical Pitch and Roll and higher Yaw. Both Freelance ships fly at the speed equivalent to the X-Wing with the foils closed. However, both of them also are lacking 1 Weapon slot compared to the X-Wing. If you want the third weapon slot, you can also use a Kimogila fighter, but that has signifigantly lower turning values and 30k more mass than an X-Wing.

B-Wing ~ Krayt

The Krayt is the closest thing in the game to a B-Wing. Can't comment on the exact turning values, but they are likely comparable to the Kimogila fighter, so they are more than likely signifigantly better than the B-Wing. They both have 4 weapon slots, however one of them on the Krayt is a player controlled turret, which can be good or bad. You can hit things behind you if you actually have someone using it, but if you don't have a second person you lose that firepower. Krayt trails the B-Wing in mass by 20-30k, but it is still a pretty good ship. It may also be lacking in missile slots when compared with the B-Wing.

Can't say for sure about whether the inside of the YT-1300 is like the falcon because I don't have one and I've never been in one.

As far as the "rebel" side of Neutral, I've heard that the RSF (Theed) is Imperial oriented, Smugglers Alliance (Tatooine) is completely neutral, and CorSec (Coronet I believe) is more rebel oriented. I've only done RSF, so I can't be completely positive on that.

Unless you are RSF, in which case Imperial's can't be attacked, yes, you can attack either faction, and you are able to declare for either side.

One thing to point out though is that the YT-1300 has 1 less ordinance slot and no loot box, so many people see it as the gimp of the 3 multiplayer ships.

I personally enjoyed both of the piloting professions (Rebel and Freelance) pretty equally.

You probably won't be able to wear your Alliance Ace Pilot helmet after dropping it, but I'm not going to test that out, lol.

Didn't 11.2 fix this?

No matter how much the designers tried to make the YT-1300 look like the Falcon(even putting the dish on top, which was not stock, and only on the Falcon), and no matter how much it is modified, it will not *be* the Falcon.

Are the Freelancer equivalents of the X, A and B truly comparable? What are the strengths and weaknesses compared to these ships?

Yes, they are compareable, but keep in mind, Freelancer has some of the ugliest ships in the game.

Is the YT-1300 truly like walking around inside the Falcon?

This is partiallyanother instance in which the devs wanted to hook the Han Solo clones out there, and partially because that's how a YT-1300 is supposed to look.

Which squadron runs "Rebel" missions (i.e. I attack the Star Ravager for my Master mission)? What is the starting point?

CorSec is the completely Neutral squadron, RSF is the Imperial alligned Squadron, and the "Smuggler's" Alliance is the closest to being Rebel alligned, since, as was mentioned before, you must take out the Imperial Corvette

Are there any particular issues with certain squadrons (i.e. insanely hard missions of trainers who are broken)?

I think I heard some people say that the Devs accidentily broke the "Smuggler's" Alliance Tier 4, but am unsure, since my alt is in CorSec, and not the shoddy insult to Smugglers.

Am I correct that I can attack either faction and declare Reb or Imp depending on my whim at the time? Am i correct that neither faction will aggro me if I'm neutral?

As an RSF Pilot, you can attack anything that isn't Imperial or RSF. As a CorSec Pilot, you can attack anything that isn't CorSec. As a "Smuggler's" Alliance Pilot, I think you can attack either anything that isn't Hutt, or anything that isn't "pirate".

If you've done both Reb and Freelancer, which did you enjoy mostand why?

I enjoy Rebel(Naboo track) more currently, but that may change as I level through Freelancer. Why? I just did.

Finally, I assume I won't be able to wear my "X-Wing Helmet" when I drop Allaince Ace, right?

If you take it off, you will not be able to re-equip it.

TIA for your help. Feel free to add any thoughts/points I missed...

In my oppinion, the YT-1300 is an ugly(read: extremely ugly) ship, and shouldn't be restricted to just restricted to just Freelancer, but should be like the FireSpray, available to all Masters. Due to its age and how long its been out on the market in continuity.

Nothing against Han Solo, he's a kick ass character. I just don't like the Han Solo clones out there...

With everything available in character creation and clothing in this game, why does everyone have to look like or have an incredibly similar name(I saw a Huan Soulo the other day...) asone of the main characters in the movies.

Most of what you asked was answered, but it was said that "Corsec is a rebel ally" which is not true

CorSec Pilots, in my opinion, are more 'neutral' than even the Smuggler's Alliance Pilots. CorSec missions involve killing a lot of both Imp and Reb targets and, more importantly, CorSec Pilots get to choose whether to destroy the Reb Corvette or Imp Ravager as the Master Pilot mission - SA Pilots must go after the Ravager.

If you want to attack the Ravager as the Master mission, do either Smuggler's or CorSec, but remember that CorSec will run several missions against Rebel targets.

I guess this means that my alt after I unlock Jedi shouldn't be mocking the SW story either...

Yeah, thier most honored ancestor was named "Bacca", which is why many Wookiees have in continuity have that as a portion of thier name.
