What makes a pikeman decent/good at PvP:
Expensive armor, mind poison/fire expensive polearms, expensive high-damage polearms, buffs, food, extra defenses from other professions.
I spent 12 million on my equipment and I do great.

Exactly ....
We can attack as fast as aTKA .... if we buy Tons of Skills tape they don't need
We can attack as strong as a Swordman .... if we loot/buy a rare High Damage LVA or VL
We can be as hard to kill as a fencer .... if we dabble if other professions and with expensive armor/buffs/foods
We can use Poison/disease like CM .... if we loot/buy some NS Lances
We can Burn people like Commandos .... if we loot/buy an expensive Fire Lance
Yeah ... we rock in PvP ... but at a high price ... while all the other profession can rulz easilly with crafted weapons and whitout dabbling ...
jawa ion....

Pikeman is great for PvP!
But you have to know what you are doing, like with any other Melee profession. First order is to own a good Helmet with 80% energy resists, to keep the Riflemen busy, know a good doc, and keep a selection of awesome state slapping pikes and lances, to keep people on their toes. Having /follow in your toolbar is great, to keep yourself from being kited, even having a macro that follows and burstruns at the same time is handy, to chase down or close fast with wily, lone opponents. The key to all melee PvP, from my perspective is to not get caught far away from opponents, so use urban terrain to your advantage, or to be outnumbered by opponents at ranged. By allowing them to keep you at distance, you are basically letting them cut you down. A lot of melee people suck at melee vs. ranged PvP because they engage opponents at ranged and can't seem to understand why they are getting their heads handed to them.
You are real handy in Base defense or offense, a Pikeman hidden around a corner in a base is a nasty surprise, especially if you make a macro that cycles through a series of good, fast poison/disease/fire lances while alternating a variety of areattacks. If you survive the onslaught of raiders, you will have most of them lying on their backs, stunned, dizzied, diseased, poisoned and on fire. Then you lay in with the damage while your pals do clean up duty.
Being a Pikeman requires a bit more skill and effort than the other combat professions, but can be exremely rewarding to the experienced player, who is well equipped and prepared for a serious fight.
I've got an ImperialPrototype PSG with 50% resists to everything but Kinetic. I bought it from a vendor that was selling loads of them. I never go into town without it. I get shot at with a T21? Its got to go through two layers of armour. Jawa Ion Rifle? You don't need more than one layer. Oh and I wear Ubese Armour. I never have a problem. I've also heard of people with 50% stun resistance on their Composite Armour. You need a Master Armoursmith with some good Stun Resist plates. But I don't have a Doctor in my pocket, so I prefer to "keep it light".
The equipment is out their gentlemen. Advanced alien weapons require the most advanced protection. The Empire is looking out for you with your protection at its very heart. Buy PSGs from Official Imperial Armoursmiths, if not for you, then for your family!
The question is not "What The Emipre can do for you?", but "What you can do for The Empire?"! ![]()

And any pvp fight as a pikeman no matter the equipment will be inferior to any halfway decent tkm/rifleman. /shrug
