I took up the profession because I tried basically every type of weapon at some point during beta and polearms were simply the most fun.
If they nerf DoTs I'm quitting. I really love it when people see my title and assume I'm some jackass "mini-CM", I'd have a hard time living without that.

Pikeman and Carbineer were the only two combat professions I never tried in Beta, so I took up Carbineer first... After about 8 months of Architect/Merchant and slowily working up Carbineer I was at 3324 and was thinking of dropping it anyways... I decided to use my first Holo ever at that time and it said Pikeman... After hitting Novice Pikeman, I knew it would be my long-term profession and I wouldn't see a second Holo used... So much fun, I'm waiting for the quests to come for FS...
The only regret I have was not mastering Carbineer before dropping it, but that was before the badges, so as a badge collector it wouldn't have helped me where I really care... ^_^
The thing that pisses me off is the FotM'ers and DoT abusers who make me want to hoard all my Pikes so they can never get their grimy little hands on them... I can't wait for DoTs to be subjected to 75% reduction in PvP... ^_^

my only fear is that when pike gets the love it will be flooded with idiots that have been flooding other profession forums...

Hmm..well to be honest, i took it up because of the looks. Really, i think pikeman looks like the coolest profession in combat (other than jedi of course). But, i have been playing pikeman for about a month now on and off and im almost master (im not a power gamer sorry lol) im 4343 pikeman and i dont care for it much. I went to tusken fort the other night and....i just couldnt kill as fast as i can with my fencer. Also, now the combat profession seems kinda chunky and slow and clumsy to me now. I miss a lot too. Ill have to see what its like at master. I heard its totally awesome at master. We'll see. But if its not good then ill drop it for god knows what but if its good ill probably go tk/pike/fencer.
Yeah...it was deff for the looks of holding that big vibro axe-lance thingy. That thing is just plain sexy!

i think unlike other proffesions, being a master w/ pikeman just isn't enough. in order to be half good with it you have to work hard killing handfulls of ns's to get good to exceptional pikeman weaps along with some sea's. i think alot of people get to master with pikeman and say wow this proffesion sucks, of course they're using crafted weapons and dont have any attachments to fill in those "problem" spots with pike. the way i look at it comparingly is this: a tkm is @ 95% of there full potential, whereas a pikeman is maybe @ 70% of there fullpotentialat master. this is assuming there both not using any sea's and are using only crafted weapons. so in order for a pikeman to catch up to tkm or most other classes for that matter you have to spend hours hoping for good loot, or you have to have enough money to buy the loot. The end result is more satisfying than any other proffesion i can assure you. thats why i choose pikeman, and thats why i'll keep it.

I always liked Pikes to begin with, plus when trying to master brawler as a noob, I loved the look of it and how it played. It was just too damn fun!
I will be in the proffesion when thedot nerfs come. Hey, I do not even use dots as Pikeman, I guess I wont see too much of a change on my gameplayaside from being poisoned, flamed or diseased by those I am fighting

My first reason for this pro was the area attacks. I like to harvest from animals and this pro has allowed me to kill the quickest. Also for the DOT'S in PvP. I like the look on a rebels face when they realize they have been hit with a strong mind poison and all iam doing is waiting for the venom to work its magic.

Was just wondering why you took the profession and will you keep it when the DoT nerf comes =P
I chose cause I heard it was a lot of fun, the specials look awsum and plays a great support role in battle. Bring on the DoT nerf I say, by the time that comes, melee mitigation will be kicked (or vice versa or same time hehe), and hopefully we wont need DoT's ..... =P
