Thread: Death of the Melee class???

I really believe the end of the melee class in SWG is coming. This 30 sec down timer for knockdowns is just plain BS. Why would they do this?? Do the devs just want to make everyone on the game a ranged weapon user?? Now the melees have no advantage whatsoever over a rockbeetle pet. How can a melee take the damage that an upper lvl Mob dishes out?I know some of you will say buffs and armor, but that just doens't work. Some of those Mobs can hit you 4 times in a 4 sec span for over 500 a hit, and thats not even taking in account the REALLY huge mobs. Our only defense was knocking the Mob down (when we didn't miss!!), and hoping it stayed down. Even then I still was knocked unconsious alot and killed. So instead of fixing a glaring gap between Melee's power and ranged user powers, they just widen it.


And do not even get me started on PvP. I could rant on this for days and days, and still have more to rant about on this. But now the one and only chance we had to win a fight is stripped away from us. Once again, DEVS WHAT THE HECK ARE THINKING???????????


If anyone has anything to add on this please do. We have to speak out and get this thing fixed now or Pikeman will be a total useless class!!And if anyone tries to support this move, you are a freakin idiot and don't know jack about playing a melee character.

OMG I totally have to agree...just had my A** handed to me by 2 blue con creatures....I understand that knockdown was powerful but now it is like worthless except to run from the mob....if I wear armor it does nothing but hurt my class and my specials as a Pikeman....I hope you make warning shot a 30 second timer...because I watch all day long as pets just tank and the fighter uses warning shot or no pet and just warning shot....I must say they did give love to UA's or TK's because now they have more damage...and with their spd they are on a roll. I also wanted to mention I didn't see much more damage with my knockdown than before...it still did about the same amount. I guess with me being on Starsider and no VL's or LVA's cannot be made because of resources not opened on that server yet, so Iguess I amnotmissing much since the changes to most meleers is more of a Nerf......they should just make special armor for us meleers that way it doesn't hinder us so much. Well my 2 cents and prob. will be more of it soon.

everyone also seems to be overlooking that they nerfed KD in ahother way, not only does it take 30 seconds to re apply it only laste 5 seconds instead of about 15. or at least thats how i read the path notes. i guess i will know for sure tonight when i log on.

well they went and did it i cant believe im master medic except i havent used my axp but i jus helaed myseldf 3 times completely and still got incaped my a dark blue while im wearing composite armor . if they dont fix this real quick im quitting ive wasted to much time to be nerfed down to where i cant kill a dark blu i dont even pvp this nerf was for pvp why thewy go and #$#$%# me also

good point i noticed that to they hitting me in 5 seconds instead of the 10 to 15 i averaged before. s onow in likw 5 seconds if im lucky ( because in alot of my kd experiments so far there hitting me again as is i never even knocked them down ) against these guys that hit for 200 and above im useless now..hmmm lets see 250 every 3 seconds are so equals dead pikeman before he can sneeze.



p.s ohh and im master brawler , 3/2/4/3 pikeman , 4/3/4/4 medic so i feel it in brawler and pike basically they jus made master brawler totally useless and cant say much for pike either. mabe its time to get off this addiction of online gaming if this is a example of soe future i cant see EQ2 being much better. maybe first eq was just luck ever hear of 1 hit wonders but i had high hopes but they stomping on them

You guys rely on knockdown too much then.....


I've hardly ever used it, the creatures/players just got up too fast to bother with it.


But, I did use lounge a LOT in pvp to help me catch up to the other players that were trying to kite me. Since i'ts posture change, it's affected too, which really hurts in pvp.

Added 30 second posture change/knockdown timer. (We are simple put as - gimped or screwed or NERFED)


Decreased knockdown delay to 5 seconds. Knockdown adds a 5 second delay to your queue. (This means basically you can't hit the creature that you knockdowned...*TIMEOUT* let me get back up and we start fighting again...or while you watch me lay here...my other creature mob or player can kick your butt)


Increased damage of all knockdown moves (Not enough to really make a difference on a 4k mob in PvP it isn't going to be a high amount at all anyhow)


  • Decreased cost of all knockdown moves. When we added the 30 second timer, the costs and damage needed adjustment. (They weren't that big of a problem anyhow...at least not for me using a lance...still could use KD and heal myself if needed to)

  • I would like to touch base on my other 2 cents



    1. Creatures attack spd. is generally 2.0 I have yet to see anything different...(from my 3 pets stored)

    2. My best Lance I have is 2.8 spd. Even if I had my 30 Pts from skills to help that...it is lowered to what. 2.5 or if lucky a little lower...still slower than everyone else even creatures.

    3. My HAM compared to PvE (big difference) to PvP (just depends on skill of Opponent and if more than one)

    4. Damage and spd - creatures 2.0 attack spd. / damage - depends on creature...most adults 100-200/ now me - Lance spd 2.8 (If I have spd buff from skills +30 to polearm...might get 2.5 to 2.0 not sure) damage of Lance is 38-264 (avg. 38 to 500 using no specials)

    5. Now fighting PvE ... in a 10 second period I hit 3 times for a total of 700+ damage...washit 5 times for 400+ damage

    6. Results- I lived because I had healing power - however I took 40% of my total Hps in damage and thecreature fighting 700+ damage wasabout 1/3 of theirs.

    7. I used KD and was only awared 200+ damage as a hit...the other 2 hits were 100+ and 200+ however all of this didn't matter at the end because 2 more creatues attacked and I couldn't heal fast enough and KD only stopped the second 2 for a short time....I as a meleer had no special powers to scare the creatures away like warning shot.

    8. In my opinion your basically saying Hey your a warrior and we wish we had several cleric here to chain heal you as you fight....lets see this happen in SWG with Combat Medics...

    9. I guess I must go ahead and drop something so I can become a pistoleer and become like everyone else...or guess the next step is to become IMP and get an AT and walk around with it....or perhaps we can just include Planetside into SWG and just have a free for all

    I am sure I will be back for more and more after others post their opinions as well... 2 more cents...make 4 now

    The reason they are putting this knockdown timer in is because some bigmouthed marksman who will not be going into a profession with a knockdown move complains that they are unable to attack because of knockdown... but if we don't have knockdown what do we have against marksman then? Some ranged fighters have knockdowns too and we will never be able to compete with a ranged fighter without knockdowns. Any good ranged user (meaning smart and strategic, not high leveled) will always be able to beat us anyways because so long as they don't get within our lunge range they can't get hit. So a few of the worse ranged users (the ones who don't understand running is good) complain because they don't know anyway to counter knockdown (like running away before they get knocked down) other than to get the devs to nerf it.

    lol, wow you guys must really be missing something or just...SUCK


    I can KD an opponent (humanoid or creature)which will buy me 5 rounds of them not being able to hit me. (If I do a stun before KD I can get 6 or 7)


    Now visually they wont appear "down" or in a state of weakness, but they are, for me anyhow and now its just no contest.

    people who claim this isnt death to us are noobs still killing nuna who never get hit for over 250 a shot .

    It's not much different for Ranged Users, at least in a PvE setting. This has hurt EVERYONE, everyone, right across the board.


    Go take a look at the Carbineer Posts, then at the Pistoleeros. The only ones who seem to be yucking it up a bit are some of my fellow BH's who can't believe LLC finally got fixed, Those poor Cammandos seem to be a bit lost in Wonderland as well. Yes, it's nice when a Worthless Weapon gets upped a bit, but, this KD / Position timer really hits us all... Bad!


    and it's not a 30 Second timer per MoB, it's a 30 second timer per You. You can only use a KD, position change Once every 30 seconds, so if 3 MoBs aggro you while doing your mission, you don't have the option of KDing them all and running away. With Ranged users it's very much the same. They follow you, they warp onto you when you Burst run, they shoot you (if They are ranged) from incredible distances. To make matters worse, your maskscent will fail on lower level MoBs than it has in a Long, long while, so you will also pick up new aggros as you run... as if you really needed that.

    I feel for you. Melee got dealt a bad hand, Again. But the last thing we need now is an Us against Them approach. We are All in the same boat here. Don't let the Devs make this into a Ranged vs. Meleers. It's bad enough some of us look like we've been porking the Bosses Daughter, what with our shiny new toys while everyone else got hung up by their toes.


    Lets stick together on this and tell the Dev's to take this back to the drawing board where it belongs!

    They stated that the defense vs. was fixed. Anybody test this out yet?
