Thread: Death of the Melee class???
With intimidate up, doc enchances and good chitin armor, you can fight every creature. It doesnt mean you are overpowered, you can fight krayt for 1 min without heals, but you will barely scratch him and still die alone.
lets take an example:
- krayt hits for about 1200
- intimidate cuts it to about 600 damage
- 50% chitin armor cuts it to 150 damage
- tougtness will cut it even more
melee is still nice in PvE. However, we are useless in PvP now, you have to fight other melees. There is no way to catch ranged anymore.

This is simply ridiculous. You have nerfed just about all of the things that make us pikeman able to survive on Wanderhome. Even though us master pikes were not successful in PvP, at least we were succcessful in PvE, but now, we're NOT EVEN THAT!
The 30-timer allows us to take dmg from an enemy with an already low toughness factor. Before I could tank 4/5 of most any creature at a time, now I get slain by 3 ikopi (woot! some master.... lol) The timer does not even let me KD for 30 secs if I fail my first attempt. There's just no point in being a pikeman any longer... thanks a lot...
Maybe I'll just go bounty hunter like everyone else.

I'm a novice doctor and a 0/0/2/1 pikeman, and I can kill almost anything that doesn't con red to me. I've even killed a grand wrix or two by myself.
Perhaps there is a misunderstanding of the consider system.. It is comparative to your skill. Red means that it will most certainly eat you. Yellow means that it will only probably eat you. Etc... Of course taking on superior foes results in death.
Ok I see the first 2 idiots to post here are Tensalis and Grendel. If you ever played a pikeman past the novice skill, then you would know what weare talking about. But instead it sounds like you are still killing gorgs and womp rats, or just a rifleman or such just trying to stir up trouble. Go back to sweeping a bunch of kreetles, or shut up and let the real pikeman share their concerns with the Devs and hope we can find some middle ground. As it stands now, pikemenare just a second tier novelty class, with no real bearing on this game.
So far after reading all the posts on this messageboard, I've come to the conclusion that to be able to kill anything that gives you any decent experience, you either have to have a pet tank for you, or have friend that does nothing but stand behind you and be your own personal healer. Either way that is pretty lame. If I wanted to be a creature handler, I would have picked that profession. Also a healer can only do so much, especially against the higher lvl mobs that can kill you in 2 hits, no matter how much armor you have on.The Devs have essentially made us lower than all but the lowest baby pets. If they didn't want anyone in this game to melee, why did they evenhave the option in the game. This profession was already one of the most unpopular to play on this game, but now its even worse. In less than a month, I bet you could go a whole week without seeing a Pikeman anywhere on your server, if something isnt done.

The only feasable benefit would be if you were in a group of meleers. But you're right, that is very dumb. The timer should not have gone below 10, and maybe the delay should be 3 or 4, and have the repeat timer set to 20 and make each timer separate for types. This would address the problem SOEexpressed without destroying the fundamentals of your battle tactics. It might also allow for better PvP, as playersprobably won't be "griefed" with KD after KD, even as it allows you to use your strengths. I'm not sure how it is, but I don't think the timer should start until the opponant was knocked down.
I'm not sure if having one timer per mob per player is a good idea or not, but I think the profession would definately benefit from it, and if it supports cooperation and tactics, then I am all for it.
As far as ranged weapons dealing KDs, I'm not so sure about that. I'm a rifleman and we haven't got anything like that in just one shot, but I think it was the pistoleers KD shot that caused the ruckuss...how easy is it to KD someone with a pistol anywhere from 0 to 64m? Especially a meleer who needs to get up close? Not that it needs to be taken away, or nerfed to kingdom come, but with some tweaks I think there can be a good balancing act. the 5 seconds of KD time and 5 seconds of weapon delay sounds great for a ranged combatant to get some distance between a melee mob and yourself without being so overpowered that you can sit there and take pop shots at a helpless foe, and would provide little to no benefit against a ranged opponant.
It still needs some work, I just wish that SOE would tweak things a little bit at a time instead of all in one fell swoop.
