I was owned by a 0 3 3 4 tka and i'm masterpike, I was hitting him for crap because of his defense/toughness mods. It was sick.

This was only one change that cannot be interpreted in isolation. Yes, Holo wants to raise the pikeman speed cap to 3, but with a large increase in damage. He also wants to add tank abilities and increase the defense modifiers. Increase melee damage in general across the board, with pikeman doing the most, but at the lowest speed (3 sec cap). Also he wants to add more types of weapons to all classes. Increasing range of melee weapons to account for the margin of error between the client and server.And much more.

Oops, not Holo, Dan posted those proposed changes.
Dansaid something about getting rid of the negative range modifiers for pikemen. I assume that means the pikeman accuracy will be much better in the future and won't miss so much.
Dan says he'd like to see pikemen do very high damage, but at the trade off of lower speed. I assume he'll make sure the damage offsets the speed disadvantage.
He never siad he'd like to see us do very high damage, he just said we didn't do enough.
He'll increase it 10 points and say good enough.
Also, the modifiers are staying. He's going to try making it so weaponsmiths can lower them. Whoopty freaking doo.
Actually he did say pikemen should do very high damage. Here's the quote under Solution #1 for Problem #! of Pikemen:
"Similar to the fencer, I see the pikemen as the brother class to riflemen. They should do very high damage but at the trade off of lower speed. I don’t think I want to make range a defining characteristic, as the range limitations cause playability issues for all melee classes. Fixing it for pikemen will leave the other classes with the same problems." - Dan
I seriously doubt that statement means increasing the damage 10 points. I remain optomistic.
Makes sense to me, by capping the speed at 3s they can give pikeman/rifleman a decent damage boost and not have to worry about the rare person who's loaded up with +10 speed skill tapes, allowing them to swing/fire at 1s.. I doubt the majority of pikemen are currently capping out.
The fact that they're fixing the range penalties on LVAs and VLs is good news, even if it will only be on new weapons, just means if you were planning on buying one soon it's better to hold off
I just picked one up this week, but luckily I didn't pay for it, PA smith made it for me ![]()
Also good news on upping the range so we get hurt less by the "3m away but out of range" problem - I can hear the marksman classes crying realism already, hehe.
No mention of the toughness issue though
It would be nice to be brought up to the same level as the other melee classes before they give the overall defensive boost. Still, any boost is nice.
I'm hyped! Though I really should know better than to get over-hyped, or I'll probably be disappointed ![]()
Dillos, at the end of beta we we're also quoted by the Devs of being a class that is supposed to have the highest damage output of all classes. Obviously that failed, too.
And, did they mention when these magical changes would be taking effect? A month? 6 months?
No.. they didn't. They didn't even say they were going through with it, they said these are things they'd like to do. I apologize for being skeptical, but I've played MMORPG's since UO, and they haven't so much as said "Yes, we realize pikeman are borked and useless." This is the first post I've seen that even seperated pikes from other melee in 3 months. They say Commado damage is fine (That's a joke to me) but they ened weankesses, ok, so there going to make it do less damage to ranged attackers (nothing to do with us) and make commando's MAYBE lose their toughness, so they'll still be able to ridiculosuly out damage us (3-4x), kill entire groups with ae's while ours don't even function correctly, my friend Azr can one shot anyone, 75% chance. I can barely nick people, I usually just miss.
THere are sooo many issues with Pikeman that, unless they actually -act- on these idea's SOON, there's nor easno for anyone to be happy. What they are telling us that, "Yes, we'd like to change combat, but we don't have an ETA. Play your broken class."
